Is there such a thing as a stainless steel oven tray?

You know the enamel ones that come with the oven when you buy it - can you get them in stainless steel? I feel like my stainless steel pans are a breeze to clean. I'd like to stop hating my oven.

I've tried googling every keyword combination I can think of to no avail.

I am just so fed up of either scrubbing the bloody thing for ages with baking soda or using toxic chemicals to get grease etc off. We use foil and it still ends up filthy.

I am on the verge of throwing it away.

Look on Nisbets or Procook they do things like that.

Singleandproud · 03/10/2024 16:36

Stainless steel is a poor conductor of heat so that might be why they are hard to find. Saucepans may have a copper or other metal base though with stainless steel sides.

Wednesdaysotherchild · 03/10/2024 17:28

Yes, we got it from Procook and it works well. Hot so you need thick oven gloves!

KeyKnowledge · 03/10/2024 17:29

Ikea do them, we have a small one and a larger one. They are great. Super good at cooking and also easy(ish) to clean.

They’re brilliant. Best oven trays ever.

Wellfuckmesideways · 03/10/2024 18:21

Amazon, search on steel baking trays.

Ariela · 03/10/2024 18:29

Catering quality, try Nisbets, Booker/Macro, Costco

TheBeesKnee · 03/10/2024 18:30

So I'm talking about this thing in particular, not the smaller cooking trays you can put on the rack.

Ah, right.

I wouldn’t think so then. Because those are basically inside parts of the oven, manufactured to match the rest. Though I could be wrong!

What are you cooking on it that requires so much scrubbing?

Wellfuckmesideways · 03/10/2024 19:02

Cover it in tin foil, then when you have finished cooking, simply throw away. No scrubbing involved.

That seems an original part so instead of looking in cook shops try an appliance spares website or ebay (e.g. spares direct.co.uk) . Put your Mfr/model number in and all sorts of bits will come up.

SleepingisanArt · 03/10/2024 19:26

As far as I know they don't come in stainless steel because to prevent warping in the heat it would need to be very thick, or several layers of material with a stainless steel finish.

(Give a chef a stainless steel oven tray and he'll prove it certainly isn't stainless!)

Do your oven trays fit in your dishwasher? Mine do so I just let it deal with them.

They do and they're great. We also have 2!

Oh sorry I missed this, ignore me! I've never seen these in stainless or otherwise!

HotCrossBunplease · 03/10/2024 19:30

Where does it go? Under the food you are cooking or right at the bottom of the oven?

Shinyandnew1 · 03/10/2024 19:30

Can anyone link to the Ikea ones please? Or tell me the name?

Thank you!

No we have a slimline dishwasher because our kitchen is tiny and a full sized one wouldn't fit.

This is what it looks like at the moment. I've abandoned it in the sink because I just can't face it anymore.

I'm also pregnant so can't handle the usual toxic chemicals so the scrubbing has really got to me today.

These are the ones I have, I use them for lasagna, roast potatoes, stuff like that. Measure though, I bought the large size first but they didn’t fit in my fairly normal sized oven.

KONCIS roasting tin, stainless steel, 26x20 cm - IKEA

KONCIS roasting tin, stainless steel, 26x20 cm Corn on the cob, spicy sausages and delicious steaks fresh off the grill – you can put everything in this tin when it's time to serve. And you can also use the tin for cooking in the oven if you prefer.

Can't you just clean it this time and then keep it covered with tinfoil after this time? And not actually cook anything on it? I put anything that might bubble over on a dishwashable non stick tray.

We do use foil and mainly cook chips or roast vegetables on this tray. It's handy because it's so big you can put a flat layer and everything gets nice and crispy.

Despite the foil it still ends up looking like this constantly. I really don't know why. I assumed they all end up like this but this thread is making me think not.

I'm going to have to ask DP to clean it, I've cleaned everything else but this is killing my arm.

I bought a set of 4 stainless steel baking trays from Amazon in January 2021 and they are still spotless now. They do get very hot though
£33 well spent.
I've just looked through my past orders and they were by HaWare.

rightoguvnor · 03/10/2024 22:59

I got the roasting tins too, and they're still on the go as well.

Oldieandgoldie · 03/10/2024 23:05

I use these as shelf/tray protectors…bought cheaply from Sainsburys, but I’m sure Home Bargains etc do them too.

I'm probably being really ridiculous but I have never cooked anything directly on those trays - I use another tray on top. I would use them as a shelf rather than a tray, because I agree that they're a nightmare to get clean. I also don't like the way they prevent the air from circulating as effectively.

I guess ultimately I'd rather have slightly less flat space and clean something vastly easier to clean than try and scrub something that isn't non stick down all the time.

You could try with a metal scrubbing sponge. My dad would tell me it will take the shine off the enamel.

Another thing you could consider would be buying another shelf for your oven so you don't need the maximum possible flat width and can use oven trays you can dishwash instead?
