Is there such a thing as a stainless steel oven tray?

You know the enamel ones that come with the oven when you buy it - can you get them in stainless steel? I feel like my stainless steel pans are a breeze to clean. I'd like to stop hating my oven.

I've tried googling every keyword combination I can think of to no avail.

I am just so fed up of either scrubbing the bloody thing for ages with baking soda or using toxic chemicals to get grease etc off. We use foil and it still ends up filthy.

I am on the verge of throwing it away.

The solution is not to cook directly on it, and use baking trays or cookie sheets that fit in your dishwasher.

Ikea do them, we have a small one and a larger one. They are great. Super good at cooking and also easy(ish) to clean.

Yes,they are fantastic

Sprinkle a tablespoon of biological washing powder over it, and fill with warm water. Leave it for half an hour, and it should all come clean with a quick scrub/rinse.

I have stainless steel cooking trays that were my Nans. They could well be 50 years old and definitely don't look it. This is why they're not as common now, manufacturers want you to keep replacing.
I have bought some new larger ones recently though which almost fill the oven shelf. But just not as sturdy as my older ones.

Have you tried removing the top dishwasher drawer and attaching the grey spray to the back of the dishwasher? There should be room for the tray and other items to wash on a very hot programme.

I’m baffled by the love for those Ikea trays. I have one and I cannot get that brown baked on look off the sides despite trying everything. It always looks grubby. I hate mine.

Try scrubbing it with a dishwasher tablet. It's the most effective way of cleaning them ime.

ticklecrabs · 04/10/2024 06:06

I hate mine too. Something that works quite well is to crumble up a dishwasher tablet and leave it sitting in the tray with some boiling water for an hour or so. The enzymes or whatever eat away at the grime.

I always use another roasting tin on top but my husband likes to use the tray directly and usually either forgets to use foil or uses a piece the size of a coaster which makes absolutely no difference 🙄

CatherinedeBourgh · 04/10/2024 06:07

But I do also use the wire scrubber on them and they don't seem to suffer for it.

Great minds @CatherinedeBourgh Smile

We do use foil and mainly cook chips or roast vegetables on this tray. It's handy because it's so big you can put a flat layer and everything gets nice and crispy.

Despite the foil it still ends up looking like this constantly. I really don't know why. I assumed they all end up like this but this thread is making me think not.

I'm going to have to ask DP to clean it, I've cleaned everything else but this is killing my arm.

Just buy something else to put onto the shelf to cook things in.

I have never cooked directly on that part of my oven.

Soak it for a long time before trying to clean it, then just never use it again.

That's just how used stainless steel looks, go to any commercial kitchen.

Used things don't look like new things.

Either scrub it with pink stuff paste, or fill with water and bio washing powder and let it gently simmer on the hob for a few minutes then leave to soak.

I use baking paper or another flat tray on mine.

I have stainless steel large roasting tins bought from Lakeland when I got married, so almost three decades old. Still immaculate. I use Jif cream cleaner if they start to look shabby.
