Where do YOU keep your computer in your house?

Ours is in what used to be the study, but is now spare room/computer room. This is a bit inconvenient when someone comes to stay, and cuts me off from DS when I want to work on the computer as spare room is tiny.

I want to move it to alcove in our bedroom, or downstairs in the lounge but DH says this will be too distracting.

ours is in the living room. Will eventually move to a study - but we haven't built it yet .

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/04/2008 08:40

dining room

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 14/04/2008 08:41

Ours has just moved into the garage ( due to spare room being needed as 2nd baby due in August) Our garage is carpeted and all kitted out as a gym so is quite comfortable in there with heater tv dvd etc...

However dh bought me a laptop so I can sit comfortably on the sofa with it. Not really safe for my 14 month dd to be in garage while I sat at computer anyway.

But if there was space in our bedroom it would have gone in there.

ooops sorry

terramum · 14/04/2008 08:43

Ours is in the lounge so I can keep an eye on DS when he is on it.

Hulababy · 14/04/2008 08:44

I have a lap top which is normally laying about somewhere n the living room. DD's computer is in a computer cupboard, also in the living room - I am a big fan of childrens/family computers being in open family rooms for all to see.

GooseyLoosey · 14/04/2008 08:44

Its a laptop so lives in a cupboard with the printer (cupboard has a hole in back so we can plug it in). I do sometimes try and work in the lounge and would agree with your dh, it can be distracting if other people are there.

I quite like the idea of it being in the lounge or main family area. We are going to re-do our conservatory (too cold in winter) into a family room but not this year, but for now I think the lounge is a nice place for computer. Went to my sister's house yesterday whose computer is in the living room, and we were all able to sit together and look at her Facebook pages with her.

dhs compyter is int he sitting room as we haven't decorated the tiny room we are going to make the offce
my laptop is in the kitchne in a computer desk thingy

bellavita · 14/04/2008 08:59

Upstairs in the spare room

izzybiz · 14/04/2008 09:01

We have quite a large landing so our Pc is there, at the top of the stairs.
We have a teenager in the house so it needs to be somewhere public!

We are going to get a laptop soon and Ds will be told NOT to use it shut in his room!

TheSweetLittleBunny · 14/04/2008 09:15

Another advantage is that when DS wants to watch one of his DVD's for the ziollionth time I can escape to the computer but still keep him company.

We're knocking through the kitchen and back room of our house to make a family room - kitchen at one end, island thingy, then dinner table, computer and easy chair in the other bit. Keeps the computer accessible and watchable now ds's are hooked on using it...

Upstairs we're turning the boxroom into a small work room (it's not posh enough to be called a study ) and I'll have my laptop in there as I'm supposed to be Working From Home 1 day a week from May

Sixer · 14/04/2008 09:19

living room under the stairs. Very handy for keeping a check on everyone!

maidamess · 14/04/2008 09:20

Its in my loft bedroom...which is great when I want to sneak silently upstairs for a session on MN..but the downside is I usually have at least 3 children in here playing miniclip games which drive me bonkers.

We are moving it soon into the living room...how can I Mn so much in such a public place?

hannahsaunt · 14/04/2008 09:21

We have quite a large kitchen/dining/family room and the computer is there. Maintains sociability and means we can keep an eye on what the dss are up to.

hippipotami · 14/04/2008 09:23

The family computer is in an alcove next to the fireplace in the dining room.

But I also have a laptop (bought for work but never used) which is next to the sofa in the living room, which is where I do all my MNing.

TheSweetLittleBunny · 14/04/2008 09:23

Seems like the living room/family is winning so far. DS (4.6) loves going on the computer and this will encourage him to use it more, which can only be good thing surely.

Ours has recently moved from the upstairs lounge/playroom/spare room to the kitchen/breakfast room.

This is good as it is more accessible during the day but it means that we hardly use it in the evenings as we tend to veg in front of the telly - which is upstairs - and can't be bothered to come back downstairs.
It's great when I'm cooking as dd can sit and watch CBeebies on the iPlayer

TheSweetLittleBunny · 14/04/2008 09:25

My other sister has teenage triplets and they have a computer in each of their rooms, plus her work computer, and laptop! Surely this is overkill?

Psychomum5 · 14/04/2008 09:25

we have laptops so anywhere really.

if the kiddies are on them tho then they are to either be in the lounge with us, or upstairs in my bedroom with me if and when I am hiding from the boys and sport on the TV!!!

I do like to have the kiddies around us if and when they do go on, but then I trust them not to go onto sites that can be a little 'iffy' as normally it is the three girls all on the same thing and they are 9, 12 and 14.......luckily it is mainly MSN......to each other (weird lot!)

I do check the history occasionally tho, and since I had a nasty virus on mine and it had to be stripped right back to basics, losing loads, I think they are even more wary now of going to sites.

Oblomov · 14/04/2008 09:40

In our spare room. Which, if, as predicted, a dd arrives, will no longer be possible !!
