I need a vacuum cleaner that doesn't clog with hair. Recommendations this way please...

Would prefer an upright...but not sure that will be possible.

But with 4 females (who have or are likely to have long hair) in the house it needs to be clog free...

Hello!

We've noticed this thread is quite old and some of the product recommendations are a little out of date. After weeks of trawling the Talk boards, talking to parents and researching bestsellers, here are our trusted reviews to help you find the best vacuum cleaner on the market.

Hope this helps! Flowers

Don't know, but I will watch this with interest as I regularly have to cut all the hair out of the beater bar bit of our Dyson...

FoggyDays · 10/04/2008 14:44

Without a doubt I would recommend a Dyson. I have a very early version - it's still going strong despite several long haired girls and a cat malting everywhere.

SlightlyMadSweet · 10/04/2008 21:43

Hmmm....don't really have the budget for a dyson.

Not sure I want a Dyson - they are not (usually) the most reliable are they?

Do they really not get clogged though? That may clinch it for me above the issues.

We have a dyson, although not an upright, and we have two females in the house that molt (sp?) like dogs!!

FrayedKnot · 10/04/2008 21:47

My Dyson never clogs

I have found them to be OK have just had mine serviced and it's good as new

I have huge amounts of hair, and a shaggy cat

SlightlyMadSweet · 10/04/2008 21:47

Are these all uprights (apart from Winnie)?

Another vote for a Dyson. I have very long hair which drops out everywhere (it always used to block my mum's hoover when I lived at home) but I've never had a problem with. my Dyson

Pavlovthecat · 10/04/2008 21:48

Dont get dyson. they are crap. Mine clogs all the time.

Pavlovthecat · 10/04/2008 21:50

Miele cat & dog? its not upright but its very good apparantly, I am getting this as soon as I have kicked my dyson hard enough for it to actually break, either that or a Sebo.

(although henry is good too?)

I have two DDs with very long thick falling out hair... hair is a huge prob in this house! The new rollerball dyson is fab... you can remove the beater bar very very easily and cut through the beater bar with a stanley knife!

And believe me, it gets so covered in hair it even hides the brushy bits on the roller.... incredible!

My upright Dyson is a DC01. It's had three previous owners and well used. I was given it about five year's ago and it has clogged twice - both times I sucked up sticky stuff by accident (so totally expected!) Both times, I simply unscrewed the base plate and pulled the gunk out. If I ever need advice or spare parts, the service centre are exceptionally helpful and full of advice. For instance about two years ago it started over heating and cutting out, so I called them up and was told more often than not this is cased by a full filter. So I changed the hepa filter (is meant to be changed once a year) and it has been wonderful ever since. Also, you can call an engineer out to your home for a full service. It costs £50 (last time I checked) and covers all parts and labour! (including filters etc so it is worth doing when the filters need changing).

I hope this helps!

Miele cat & dog. The Dyson used to clog so ended up in the bin.

ScoobyDoo · 12/04/2008 17:35

I have the new ball upright Dyson DC25 (thanks to the comp) & it is fab i highly recommend it.

Henry absolutely all the way. My MIL bought me one as a stop gap hoover and it is fantastic. 6 years old now and never had a problem with it. It isn't an upright but with three English Setters and a couple of cats we have plenty of hair and it copes with everything!

Another vote for a dyson (sorry) I have had mine 9 years, serviced only once, I have very long hair and I just remove the bottom plate (you can and you are meant to) and cut the hair from the beater brush.

My dyson has never clogged and we have really put it through it's paces. We have hoovered up after sawing, putting in a new kitchen, after removing tiles from the wall, we have never been precious with it.

The service was because the gear went, (I rang dyson, explained it was making a horrid noise, they made me put the phone to the dyson so they could hear it and diagnosed it over the phone) Respect!

It cost me £53 which included them taking the machine apart, giving me a new cable and a new tool as I had broken one. Not bad after 7 years of abuse!

Long may it live!

MeMySonAndI · 13/04/2008 09:40

Miele Solution, or Miele Cat & Dog, they have special attachments to remove hair very effectively, never had problems with clogging.

Other than that my advise would be to vacuum more often.

Alishanty · 13/04/2008 09:46

I have a Henry and have a cat and a dog and really love it. It is very reliable and effective and I have never had any problems with hair clogging.

chonky · 13/04/2008 10:30

Another vote for the Miele Cat & Dog. We replaced our Dyson Pet Hair model with one, and it outshines the Dyson. Also voted top model by Good Housekeeping mag

MeMySonAndI · 13/04/2008 11:52

Miele Solution/Cat and Dog are not only better than the Dyson equivalent, they are also cheaper (here says one whose partner managed to kill 2 dysons but has not hurt Miele yet)

chonky · 13/04/2008 11:56

We've killed off two Dysons, but have only just got the Miele, so hope you're right MMSAI

chonky · 13/04/2008 11:57

PS to the OP - if you really want an upright, look at the LG model priced around £185 - it beat the Dyson Pet Hair model in the GH tests.

LizzieBoo73 · 27/05/2018 17:37

We've tried dyson, shark even a Kirby - nothing works for us - 2 dogs, 2 cats, me and my daughter both with long hair. Given up on trying to get a vacuum that doesn't clog - I use a rollareleasa to untangle - really simple and quick - easier than scissors. Plus its also great at getting hair out from around the plugs!!
