Wanting my house like a hotel

Bigdoglittledog80 · 16/06/2024 15:07

A continous pile of fresh fluffy white towels
Fresh flowers
White, crisp bedlinen
Everything in its place
A fridge full of fresh food
A fully stocked larder
Drinks stocked, large ice cubes in the freezer

Anyone else relate?

I’d LOVE to have the inclination or time to have a hotel like house.

My house looks like it’s been burgled - but I do run a business full time single mum and have two kids so I’m not doing to bad 😂😂

Sue152 · 16/06/2024 16:33

It's so far away from my reality that I couldn't possibly relate sadly.
I can't even imagine calling my sheets and duvet cover 'bed linen'. And if I could I still wouldn't know how to get it crisp.

Ponderingwindow · 16/06/2024 16:33

I don’t care about the flowers, but i often fantasize about moving I to a mid-range hotel. I love being able to walk down to breakfast every morning.

I want a house that is hyper-organized. Maybe not the same decor, but the same idea. I just can’t make it happen.

no.. i want my house to feel like a home, not a sterile, tidy, clean space for visitors.

i want to people to feel comfortable in my home, that they can kick off their shoes, use the bathroom towels.

What an odd post. Why would having these things mean it is a sterile place.

however tidy and clean ?, I would be surprised if any one felt comfortable in a place that was not tidy and clean?

Roseyjane · 16/06/2024 16:37

Latenighttelly · 16/06/2024 15:28

Omg, how to make people feel crap in 2 easy steps

Why would it make you feel like crap?

Bigdoglittledog80 · 16/06/2024 16:45

@Ponderingwindow I would love to come down to breakfast made. A spread of toast, juices, pancakes, cooked bits, preserves etc. Maybe just on the weekend. No one else in my household would really care for this. I would do it if I thought everyone else would love it, but they wouldn't and I would be wasting my time. I would also love to have the whole family drop round on a Sunday maybe, and I do a large brunch type spread like this too. Again, no one would be interested sadly.

A self-cleaning, self-tidying house, with autocooked food would be my idea of perfection. Not fussed on fluffy white towels.

Borracha · 16/06/2024 17:02

We send our bed linen out to be washed and ironed so it does come back beautifully crisp. I also try the by the very best quality bed linen I can (I hold out for the sales) This means we only have two sets for each bed and some of it is now quite old but it’s lovely.

I also buy fancy hand wash for the bathrooms and splurge on candles. Small things that feel luxurious.

I should also admit that we have a live in nanny/housekeeper. Before she clocks off each day she plumps up all the sofa cushions, lights a candle, chucks the hoover around and hides all the kid related mess so when we come down stairs from having put the kids to bed, it feels lovely.

TheChosenTwo · 16/06/2024 17:05

I always aim to have my house looking lovely and most of the time it does, but it always looks lived in.
I must say though I bought giant ice cube trays for big fat cubes of ice and they’re great for margaritas! Our freezer makes ice but it’s not the same at all 😂

RJnomore1 · 16/06/2024 17:10

You need:

tumble drier to finish your towels
decent quality cotton bedding (like the idea of taking it out to get laundered) all white and the whitening sheets to wash them with
a fridge that makes ice cubes
a separate drinks fridge
a cleaner
lots of lists

no flowers here, too many pollen allergies.

anonhop · 16/06/2024 17:12

I think it sounds lovely. I think part of the appeal of hotels is there's none of the clutter. It feels fresh & clean & inviting without being bleak, sterile or dull

EasterlyDirection · 16/06/2024 17:15

No not at all, it would feel sterile to me. Clean and tidy and well stocked yes but no to white bedlinen, towels, definitely no cushions and extra stuff on the beds, lots of colour and personal things like photos, books on display.

Midgegreenstreet · 16/06/2024 17:18

Nah - I can't be bothered and it doesn't matter. I do however run a holiday let which is like that (without the food). We leave it pristine for guests but that's because there's no personal stuff in the house to get in the way. I've got no desire to live like that in my actual home.

DancingFerret · 16/06/2024 17:30

Line-dried, slightly rough towels (although I keep the fluffy variety for guests who like them), none in white so everyone knows which towel is theirs.

High thread count cotton bedding
Pure duck down duvets (responsibly sourced)
Maja soap
Reed diffusers
Bean to cup coffee machine
Single cream for coffee
Fresh flowers
Plenty of ice cubes
Good sauvignon blanc and various mixers chilling in the fridge

lechatnoir · 16/06/2024 17:37

Sort of but definitely doesn't look like a hotel:
All towels and bedding are white (very practical from a washing pov!) but I can't always be bothered to iron the bedding.

Fresh flowers - we are lucky enough to have an M&S surplus larder locally where I am kept in fresh flowers for minimal outlay.

We'll stocked fridge & cupboards - after a big shop, yes. Within about three days it starts to look a bit sad and barren and the food is more basic/simple that I'd expect in a posh hotel!

Smells - I like me house to smell nice and with 2 dogs and a cat always conscious of pet smells so wash my floors once or twice a week with a capful of zoflora plus cleaner, open windows most days and have a steady flow of White Company diffusers and candles as I always ask for them for Xmas & birthday.

I I'm also quite militant on clutter and mess and will think nothing of chucking something out or giving it to charity if it's not well utilised or looking it's best.

What is the obsession with “crisp” bed linen?

If you buy good quality high thread count Egyptian cotton bedding, it is crisp , cheaper stuff is much softer.

i recently splashed out and bought some really good quality bed linen, it does feel wonderful to get into bed. A world of difference, The only issue is it absolutely needs ironing. Where as the cheapy stuff generally you can get away with not doing it.

Guavafish1 · 16/06/2024 18:15

if I lived alone

SnapdragonToadflax · 16/06/2024 18:17

Great if someone else does it. I'm certainly not going to though! 😂

Our house gets cluttered and dirty in corners and that's fine. It's not a show home or a hotel, we live in it.

Peonies12 · 16/06/2024 18:23

Nah sounds massively wasteful to me, and a huge expense. No one dies wishing they’d cleaned their house more

Lol - I was staying with a friend a few week ago, and her duvet cover was soooo soft that I sneaked a peak at where it was from, wondering if I could ever afford such decadent luxury. Turns out it was Dunelm mill, 50% polyester!! And there's me telling myself for the last 30 years that I must have pure cotton 🤣🤣

NotMeNoNo · 16/06/2024 18:54

Great, all you need is paid staff to do all the laundry and cleaning and organise all the lovely food to be delivered.
And some paying guests to motivate you

Meetingofminds · 16/06/2024 19:18

You can easily create this and maintain it. Fresh flowers can be picked from the garden at this time of year. I buy green foliage from the florist and it lasts for months if you choose well, or willow.

mitogoshi · 16/06/2024 19:22

I have fluffy towels and non fluffy ones, not white though, the good ones are all mine!

Fresh flowers weekly or as required.

Larder is generally fully stocked and I shop 2-3 times a week for fresh food or get hello fresh for convenience.

Plenty of drinks, chilled water and d ice cube maker in freezer.

I've gone off white bed linen, but I replace mine annually so it good condition

She didn’t actually mention cleaning her house.😂
