How to get grass stains out of cricket whites

SusannahSu · 06/06/2024 08:24

Hello,

I have tried soaking in Vanish for whites for hours and hours to no effect. Has anyone found anything that actually works? I daren’t wash them on 60 degrees, only 40.

Thanks

Wash and put them on the washing line in full sun

Oneofeachclub · 06/06/2024 08:31

I use a Vanish soap bar or Elbow Grease soap bar. Soak the whites and rub the bar over the stain to get a lather until the stain has pretty much gone then wash as normal

Roselilly36 · 06/06/2024 08:43

Personally I find for stains Napisan is much better than Vanish for stains.

DappledThings · 06/06/2024 08:45

I accept them as a fact of life. Same as pasta sauce and permanent marker stains on white school polo shirts.

MissFritton65 · 06/06/2024 21:19

I soak all my whites in Napisan prior to washing; it works a treat on majority of stains.

Vanish bar and Stain Devils spray that deals with grass spray but definitely a 60 degree wash!

dementedpixie · 06/06/2024 21:32

Rub stain remover or washing up liquid into the stains before washing in bio powder

Iamalltheyhavenow · 06/06/2024 21:52

Cup of soda crystals in the washing machine drum plus biological powder in the drawer on a 40 degree long-ish wash - never failed when my sons used to play years ago.

DancingWithYouInTheSummerRain · 06/06/2024 21:55

Bio powder, 40 degrees on a 3 hour cycle, my washer has an anti stain cycle, it basically froths ups the water and gives the cloths a good spin for 3 hours....it seems to work.

PP - pasta sauce.... dry the clothes in the sun and it will disappear

futherdaysahead · 06/06/2024 22:00

You put them in the bin 😬

Do all the above

Or

Dye them

Or

failing that. Bleach the hell out of them

Daftapath · 07/06/2024 00:25

The appropriate stain devil always used to work for me. Thankfully I don't have to deal with the grass, mud and red ball stains anymore!

pambeesleyhalpert · 07/06/2024 14:27

Distilled or white vinegar and out in the sun. I've never not got a stain out with this

LaPalmaLlama · 07/06/2024 14:31

Change clubs to one that allows/ mandates navy. Game changer.

lifeturnsonadime · 07/06/2024 14:34

Green fairy liquid rubbed in before water goes on them and scrub with a nail brush. Then vanish. Then sun.

More are going that way thank goodness!

AdoraBell · 07/06/2024 14:35

I haven’t dealt with cricket whites but for other white items, bedding etc, I use a stain remover then dry on the line in full sun. Washing up liquid also works for small stains.

The stain remover needs hot water to activate the ingredients before adding the clothes.

Ace bleach (in the blue bottle) is excellent on grass stains.

And, as a PP said 'hang it up to dry in bright sunshine'.

bluecomputerscreen · 08/06/2024 14:24

soak in cold water& bio powder for a few hours.
wash on a long cycle with bio powder.
peg on the line outside if you can.

RacingLine · 08/06/2024 14:27

I spray with the vanish spray which seems to work better than the powder and wash them on a normal wash (persil non bio) and they come up fine

triplechoc · 08/06/2024 14:46

Vanish spray on the stains before a long wash with vanish oxy powder and bio wash powder.

nokidshere · 08/06/2024 14:48

Fairy washing up liquid on the stains lightly scrubbed in, then wash at 60°.

Only works if they haven't been left in the bottom of a cricket bag drying for over a week 🙄

anotherruddyhayfever · 08/06/2024 15:03

Buy the tub of Vanish Oxi Action. Mix a few tablespoons to a thick paste with a little water and spread over the stain. Leave to dry and wash as normal. Repeat as necessary until stain is gone.
Sunlight also works marvels, but do the above first and use the sunlight for the last remnants

ItsFuckingBoringFeedingEveryoneUntilYouDie · 08/06/2024 16:05

Just wash as normal. Old stains are gradually covered by new stains. And no one really cares anyway .

SirQuintusAurelius · 08/06/2024 19:38

spray with vanish and leave to dry in the sun if you have any.

Wash on a 60 degree wash with biological washing liquid or powder.

Biological powder gets white whiter as they can suspend bleach agents in it which can't be done with the same efficicacy in liquid formulas for some reason.

blue345 · 08/06/2024 19:46

Another vote for scrubbing with fairy liquid before washing, then a scoop of white vanish in the wash.
