Please tell me about your robot hoover!

I feel like I spend my LIFE sweeping/hoovering/picking up crumbs. If anyone has a robot hoover please could you let me know which one, and if it:

Can get right up close to the skirting boards (this is where the dust and fluff lives in my house. Where does it come from??)

Can it move from tiles to carpet? Or do they need different settings?

Can it move over metal room divider thingies?

Does it get stuck under the sofa or is there some way of telling it not to go there?

Thank you!

I'm excited to get one 🤩

Mine is called Bertie. You WILL anthropomorphise your robot hoover.

Bertie doesn't map the room, he just bumps about, but he does get into corners and covers a decent amount of floor. I set him off after breakfast and after dinner each day for a while.

He has a taste for phone chargers if left by the sofa, but otherwise manages carpets, rugs, tiles and wood and manages to find his way home without getting stuck

Icarus40 · 08/05/2024 20:49

Thank you!
What brand is Bertie? I had a dog called Bertie when I was growing up!

id never be without one again. It was about £200. Maps house with different upstairs map. Moves about freely, have blocked off places he has got stuck so he doesn’t get trapped any more. I would say it replaces the hoover 95% - our cleaner does the whole house and stairs every fortnight ‘properly - mr bump does the whole downstairs every other day and upstairs when it looks like it needs it. Old house in country and a dog so lots of dust and uneven surfaces - works like a charm.

UtterlyQuackers · 08/05/2024 20:58

I want one! Following with interest 😁

Icarus40 · 08/05/2024 21:09

Mr Bump! Love it!

What brand is he please?

We have a Eufy called "Suki".

Can get right up close to the skirting boards?

  • Yes, but not right into room corners or obviously not the top of the skirting boards.

Can it move from tiles to carpet?

  • Yes.

Can it move over metal room dividers?

  • Yes.

Does it get stuck under the sofa?

  • Sometimes, but eventually works its way out.
Costacoffeeplease · 08/05/2024 21:14

We have 3, one venga, one eufy and a really cheap one from Aldi that I don’t remember the brand.

I would never be without one now, hence why I have 2 spares!

ayegazumba · 08/05/2024 21:18

Best thing we ever bought. It maps the house and it's fascinating to watch how it gets into every nook and cranny. We set it every night bar the night before and after the cleaner comes. It also encourages me to pick up toys and whatever else is on the floor every evening so I come downstairs to a nice clean house each morning. We have a very shaggy rug and other room separator thingies on the floor and it goes over them all with no issues. It's a Eufy and worth every penny

Franticbutterfly · 08/05/2024 22:03

My Eufy has never really worked - total waste of money. I should've got a cordless Hoover.

Parentswriting · 08/05/2024 22:16

I've got an eufy and he's called Dirt Reynolds 🤣 (one for the older generation!)

Best thing ever especially now I WFH. Definitely recommended

macshoto · 08/05/2024 22:22

I have a Neato. Not the cheapest option, but works well. Can do everything apart from stairs. Can block it from places it gets stuck (with mine using magnetic flexible plastic, with more modern ones by drawing lines on the map it draws of the room as it cleans).

I have one in my flat and DW has one in hers (we're both weekly commuters).

Scrumbleton · 08/05/2024 22:36

i've a Eufy - works very well- washes floor as well. Great for general maintenance if fooors especially under beds and low sofas - i do a good old fashioned sweep and wash every couple of weeks as well - to get properly into the corners - no carpets in my big old house

JennyfromtheBlok · 08/05/2024 22:39

We also have a Eufy

Does a really good ‘general’ clean and makes the house look nice. It’s great as it encourages everyone to clear the floor. Eufy has ripped a thong to shreds recently (I left it next to the washing machine, oops. Luckily it was only from Primark.

SlipperyLizard · 08/05/2024 22:42

I have a Roborock S7 Max Ultra, it is £££ but amazing. Vacuums (and empties itself into a bag so you don’t have to empty as often) and mops, it maps the house & you can set no go zones (or, if it finds it gets stuck somewhere a lot, it will proactively suggest a no go zone). You can choose which rooms to clean or do the whole lot.

It goes under one sofa but the other is too low to the ground.

Theothername · 08/05/2024 22:42

My eufy is called Goofy because it is charmingly incompetent. The MN recommendations were glowing but I’m sorry I didn’t spend more and get a roomba. It doesn’t clean the carpet as thoroughly, and is as random as I am in choosing what to clean. The edges and corners are good though

JennyfromtheBlok · 08/05/2024 22:45

@Theothername our eufy is great. There are lines in the carpet when it’s been and it’s definitely not random!

MathsTeacherandLoveit · 08/05/2024 23:19

I have a Laresar. It's fabulous, even with dog hairs.
Can it get right up close to the skirting boards?

Yes

Can it move from tiles to carpet?

Yes no problems with this

Can it move over metal room divider thingies?

I dont have them, so I dont know, but I don't think there would be a problem

Does it get stuck under the sofa or is there some way of telling it not to go there?

It gets stuck under the radiators so I block it off if I'm leaving it alone. I tend to be in the house when it's going, though. I have no way to program it not to go in these places.

It also has a mop function so I shut it in the tiled, areas and let it do it's thing.

I am a little embarrassed as to how much I love it!

Mykittensmittens · 08/05/2024 23:27

Another Eufy. Manages quite a decent sized ground floor well with one charge (5 bed house) and has a fine time eating all the dust under one sofa but the other sofa it gets perpetually stuck under then throws a tantrum. It also hates direct sunlight (minor problem as we have so little!) but it thinks it will fall off or something so stops abruptly and basically has a meltdown until you persuade it otherwise. Still have to do a full hoover once a week with the upright.

aside from those glitches it’s brilliant!

skippy67 · 08/05/2024 23:27

We've had a eufy for about 2 months. Best thing ever.

EmmyPankhurst · 08/05/2024 23:35

Eufy called Rex.

I don't let him play unsupervised. Likes to chew up charging cables and get stuck on the star shape base of my lounge chair then send plaintive I'm stuck messages.

Under supervision he does a good job of the middle of the room. I do still take my conventional vacuum round the edges periodically as these don't get cleaned that well.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 08/05/2024 23:44

He’s popping about now as we speak and I love him ❤️ A Lefant from Amazon. This little beauty. Here he is
£100 so not too pricey but does an amazing job. He’s more thorough than my last one (a right Vileda workhorse who I was still very sad to see go). He doesn’t map but just bumbles about until he’s too tired to carry on them he puts himself to bed. I bought the remote extra (a generic cheapy) but you can use an app. The reviews on Amazon were pretty impressive. I’ve had him for nearly a year and haven’t regretted it.
Oh and the amount of crap he picks up!! He’s a star. Five stars! ❤️

Please tell me about your robot hoover!
Dontfuckingsaycheese · 08/05/2024 23:46

Ps I have a waft round the edges, under the fridge and skirting boards with a dustpan brush before I set him off.

Mumoftwo1316 · 08/05/2024 23:55

I'm tempted to get one! Thank you for the recommendations!

Do they damage wood floors?

We have one of those memory foam play mats about 1cm thick, can it move from the floor onto the mat and would it damage the mat?

Thanks!

whiteboardking · 08/05/2024 23:59

Roomba called Darth vada.
Great but eats clothes & cables left in it's path. Clearer tops off edges

SharpLily · 09/05/2024 00:03

Eufy. I love her.

We don't have any fitted carpets but we have tiled floors with rugs and she has no trouble navigating these. I believe the instructions say she's fine up to 2cm.

You can't leave cables or other small objects laying around and bright sunlight causes her to throw a hissy fit but overall she's amazing. You still have to throw a 'proper' vacuum cleaner around reglarly for a deeper clean and to reach the corners or spots she can't but for daily cleaning in a big house with a lot of people and big dogs, she's changed my life.
