what household gadget could you not be without?

I think for me it would be my hoover or washing machine, can't really decide between them as both get used every day.

washing machine, cooker and diswasher - in equal measure!

LyraSilvertongue · 02/04/2008 14:26

Washing machine. Imagine washing all those clothes by hand! or trekking down to the launderette.

pedilia · 02/04/2008 14:26

Really your dishwasher?

ComeOVeneer · 02/04/2008 14:27

Isn't it obvious/ Surely it has to be the computer for all of us?

terramum · 02/04/2008 14:27

Close call between the washing machine & hot water tank/boiler

Washing clothes, sheets towels etc in the bath or filling a bath with pans of boiling water isn't my idea of fun!

PerkinWarbeck · 02/04/2008 14:27

washing machine.
although coffee maker is a very, very close second.

pedilia · 02/04/2008 14:27

PMSL comeoveneer, didn't even occur to me but yes to the top of the list

preggersagain · 02/04/2008 14:35

pedilia · 02/04/2008 14:39

OP posts:
cheesesarnie · 02/04/2008 14:39

oooooh why not get a dog

cheesesarnie · 02/04/2008 14:39

lol

preggersagain · 02/04/2008 14:41

scooba doesn't smell of wet dog or need walking and feeding and provides amusement and entertainment for small children and cats!

pedilia · 02/04/2008 14:43

I have just googled scooba as I have never heard of them, do they really work?

OP posts:
preggersagain · 02/04/2008 14:44

i would sacrifice my dishwasher and microwave to have him he works brilliantly!!

Lazycow · 02/04/2008 14:46

I know a lot of people say thay are happy without a dishwasher, tumble dryer, microwave (not me but hey it takes all sorts) etc and I can even imagine someone doing without a vacuum cleaner but I'd be very surprised if ANYONE on mumsnet would be happy to do without a washing machine.

Just to prove me wrong, someone is going to come along and regale us with their happy stories of trecking down to the local stream with a bar of soap and a washboard.

cheesesarnie · 02/04/2008 14:48

our washing machine broke last year we had few weeks of nowt!mil was doing load,my mum did load but i had the cloth nappies to do-yummy!neddless to say-soon as we could get another we did.i heart my washing machine.

Anna8888 · 02/04/2008 14:50

Cooker
Dishwasher
Washing machine
Tumble drier
Vacuum cleaner
Espresso maker

are all crucial bits of equipment without which our household cannot function.

Have managed without telephone (fixed) or computer quite easily. Dumped mobile phone ages ago, hated it in the end.

JRocks · 02/04/2008 14:51

Everything turns to crap in my house if the washing machine is broken (as it is now) It seems to have a knock on effect in every other area for some reason..

Novicecamper · 02/04/2008 14:53

Washing machine and tumble drier.

PotPourri · 02/04/2008 15:26

washing machine, definately.
