Do people still love Miele cylinder vacuums?

Curtainquandary · 20/03/2024 22:01

The Miele cat and dog that mumsnet made me buy 15 years ago has seen better days. Mine is the compact one. In thinking of getting a larger version where the tools are stored inside and not clipped onto the outside. It wouldn't be the cat and dog version, but I will keep most of the attachments from the old one.

Everyone seems to have a shark nowadays. I have a dyson cordless but I think I still need a full size vacuum.

Has anyone bought one recently? I think they are lower powered than they used to be. Is it still worth buying? I don't see them mentioned very much on here now.

Hate my shark.

SleepingisanArt · 20/03/2024 22:16

I will confess to having 3 miele cylinder hoovers! (I had 2 of them in businesses which when sold the buyer didnt want the hoovers!) 2 have the tools on board and one is the old cat and dog with annoying clip on tools.

The new ones are slightly lower powered but not noticeably- they still suck up my rugs and door mats. I love the onboard tools as they never fall off and are always where I need them. I'm hoping I'll never need to buy another hoover!

I have a shark but held onto my old miele. The miele is better at getting cat fur off my carpet as the shark leaves it behind

pyjamadays · 20/03/2024 22:20

We got one last year, I can’t remember which one it is but I love it. I HATED the shark we had, it was the one where you can lift it out of the base. It was so heavy and cumbersome. The Miele is so much more powerful, the tools are kept inside it and I much prefer just being able to press a button to retract the power cord rather than having to wind it round the handle like the shark.

TrishTrix · 20/03/2024 22:20

yes.

buy the miele.

the end

ThePoshUns · 20/03/2024 22:21

I have a meile cylinder. Had a Dyson cordless which was rubbish. I won't be changing my Miele any time soon.

marriednotdead · 20/03/2024 22:23

I still have my Miele cylinder from way back, it's got to be at least 10-12 years old. Have watched DD go through a Dyson cordless stick in that time and she's currently in love with her Shark.
Am happy with my Miele have no desire to change.

titchy · 20/03/2024 22:25

Get the Miele.

Borborygmus · 20/03/2024 22:26

We've got a Miele cylinder. It's OK but nothing special. The bag full indicator packed up pretty early on. TBH I tend to use the tools from my old Bosch with it (which fortunately fit) as they seem more robust.

kiwiane · 20/03/2024 22:37

Yes it does well but I always buy the cloth bags

GrumpyPanda · 20/03/2024 22:43

I've got a Miele inherited from relatives so on the ancient side but still going strong. Voltage is restricted by law in newer models but supposedly it hasn't affected suction.

Fr7fr6 · 20/03/2024 22:46

We bought a shark. It stopped working properly after less than two years. We switched to a Miele and much prefer it!

Fr7fr6 · 20/03/2024 22:47

Forgot to say, we're using a bagless Miele. It's great!

TheOriginalMrsMoss · 20/03/2024 22:51

Don't buy a Shark - they are total tat. My cleaner loves them so I got one under duress. Absolute rubbish. I hate everything about it.

I have 2 Miele vacuums, a Cat and Dog and the black one. Both excellent, still going strong after 20 and 22 years respectively.

CrabbyCat · 20/03/2024 22:54

We bought another Miele last year when our old one died after 13 years, including lots of decorating clean up which is what knackered it. We had a cordless Dyson along side it for some of the last few years but that's battery has essentially died (it only last 5 minutes now), and it only lasted something like 4 years. We also tried a robot hoover along side it but that also failed after 3 or 4 years. We got another corded Miele on the basis the old one was good at cleaning floors and had lasted a lot longer than anything else we've tried.

CavaHay23 · 20/03/2024 22:54

I've had a Miele for 15 years. Would definately buy another one when this gives up.

PheobeBebe · 20/03/2024 22:57

Brought one last year, don't rate it. Very disappointed given the recommendations. It broke recently after only 8 months and the hassle to get it fixed was not worth it, worst customer service experience I've had in a long time. Didn't have a hoover for a month! Just from the customer service problems I'd never buy another

LaPalmaLlama · 20/03/2024 23:12

I have a Miele cat and dog as a proper hoover and then a Dyson stick thing to just have a quick once over round the kitchen and hall every few days.

It’s the wattage that’s restricted on newer models. Wattage is a measure of power consumption, not suction.

LimeFish · 20/03/2024 23:17

My miele is still going strong at 13 years old so don't know about the new ones. Also now have a cordless shark for a quick whip round the kitchen, suction is absolutely pants in comparison wouldn't lift a mat up on full power when it was brand new.

BigBundleOfFluff · 20/03/2024 23:20

I have an old Miele bagged cat and dog and a new bagless one. Both are fantastic and deal with the fur from my golden retriever very well. I hate my mums shark and it can't cope with golden retriever fur at all.

timtam23 · 20/03/2024 23:23

I had my old Miele for 20+ years and when it finally broke I bought another Miele, a cylinder bagless one. It's great for cleaning, suction is really good, but the attachments clip onto the underside and there is no clip-on space for one (the small round brush) so that has to lie around loose in the cupboard which is a bit annoying. But I would definitely buy a third Miele when this one breaks.

HundredMilesAnHour · 20/03/2024 23:27

I've had a Sebo Felix for 14 years and it's the best vacuum I've ever had. My family rave about it when they come to stay. 😂

DailyCake · 20/03/2024 23:29

Responses on this thread have made me understand why there's so much animal fur in my house. I have an older, high powered cat and dog Miele, in full working condition but bought a Shark last year for my cleaner. The Miele is much better than the Shark.

unsync · 20/03/2024 23:40

Yes.
