there are 9 panelled doors
miles of skirting
one floor to ceiling window
and the stair is a rahter high ceiling
the walls are brown a the mo - not our choice - weve just moved in and im so sick of the brown
so brown will need at least coats i suppose - i want cream walls and white doors and skirting

price does NOT include paint

is thsi a reasonable price? paitner is friend of a friend and he says this price includes a 10% idscount

is this reasonable

sounds good to me - we have very high half-landing wall and could never have done it ourselves, we paid about the same a couple of years ago

nailpolish · 25/03/2008 17:41

so its reasonable then

pity i dont have £600! i will phone the painter and tell him i need to save up a bit more

are you on the nursing bank NP (agency)? I joined a few months ago and get £21 / hr night shift rate and £17 / hr normal rate.

Doing extras to pay for new windows hopefully prior to having my old painter back... now windows ARE expensive!

Did you ever get my email? You didn't respond, you moo!

brimfull · 25/03/2008 17:51

I was thinking how cheap that was!

LilRedWG · 25/03/2008 17:53

Sorry - not read any other posts, just the OP but need to say, "That's a bargain! Snap their hand off!" Ours cost way more than that, but luckily the insurance paid as we had some flood damage.

nailpolish · 25/03/2008 17:54

oaty, i dont remember getting your email
i wouldnt have it ignored it
i owuld ahve replied, maybe you didnt get my reply

i work ft on the bank (3 nights a week) - i used to do agency but it dried up as the trust stopped using agency to save money. the bank is quite good though - i get 6/9/12 month contracts covering maternity leave etc. but i get to choose my own off duty!

OP posts:
oatcake · 25/03/2008 17:57

oh, heavenly! choosing your own shifts!

do you know that I still don't have my april off duty yet? called this morning only to be told my name was not featured on ANY ward rota.

called my manager over an hour ago - she said she'd call back...

need to know for childcare!

will dig out your email address and see if I can do a test one to you.

nailpolish · 25/03/2008 18:00

Sounds very reasonable to me especially seeing as you have so many doors and need several coats of paint. I think the going rate is about £100-£120 a day.

My MIL had a quote to have her boxroom decorated (wall paper, woodwork and ceiling ) and they wanted £700!!!! (Not including materials either)

Costing £6k to decorate my 4 bed house (including a bit of plastering) so I would say you've got a decent price. Shocking how much decorators make, isn't it? I must be in the wrong game, I tell ya!

cod - people who buy grated cheese are in no position to lecture on diy

noddyholder · 25/03/2008 18:19

sounds good otherwise DIY!!!!!!!!preparation is all and sometimes we have done it ourselves and had a better result so might be worth a go
