How is putting on the line yet?

Normally I have my washing out on the line all year. But it normally didn't get much dryer from Oct onwards. I still haven't put it out yet.

Is anyone putting there's out right now? Is it getting drier?

i plan to today
i did yesterday but it was unsuccessful

Clearinguptheclutter · 19/02/2024 09:52

I literally just thought about this as the sun has come out. But the temperature won’t get above 11 today (nw) so decided against

at this rate I expect to be putting my washing out on sunny days within two weeks or so I think

Tittyfilarious81 · 19/02/2024 09:53

I've never stopped putting mine out , if there's a wind and it's dry out it goes even at really cold temps 😁

anunlikelyseahorse · 19/02/2024 09:57

Well it's not great weather here so no point....unless I want it wetter than when it came out of the machine!

Never stopped line drying.
OK, some weeks not much gets outside, but if the ground is drying, the washing will dry a bit.

But then I don't own a tumble drier. So it's line or inside, and even half dry outside is an improvement.

2 loads completely dried on Saturday, and out away by bed time.

greengreengrass25 · 19/02/2024 10:13

On the line yesterday

buckingmad · 19/02/2024 10:15

On yesterday for first time and could do today if I had enough to warrant a wash!

DyslexicPoster · 19/02/2024 11:14

I might put some out as a tester then today. It's dry but cold here

i put it out all year

Waiting for next door to stop firing up their stinky solid fuel boiler before I risk putting mine out. It makes the whole wash reek of sulphurous coal. Brings on husband's asthma as well.

NoWordForFluffy · 19/02/2024 12:50

All year here. It's needed it to be windy as well as dry (thankfully no shortage of wind on the NW coast most days!) for it to get dry / almost-dry, with heavier stuff not getting totally dry outside.

It should start to improve a bit more shortly, I'd think, as we have a north-facing garden, so need a higher sun to get its benefit on the washing.

TheFairyCaravan · 19/02/2024 12:53

I got bedding dry yesterday. I’ve got my towels out today. It’s really windy though. If they half dry it will cost less in the dryer later.

DyslexicPoster · 19/02/2024 13:13

I have been brave and put it out. Seems like it's drying nicely which is great! I do around a 8kg load daily so I normally put all the non tumble safe in the drier for 30 mins then get it out and streach it and hang in the window to finish off. That's a faff too as you have to get it out as soon as it finishes while it's still hot.

Same here. Brief sunny intervals but not long enough for anything to actually dry.

Deliadidit · 19/02/2024 13:20

I have put mine out all winter when there’s been a good breeze and a bit of patchy sun. Obviously on the days that the ground has stayed damp/wet I haven’t bothered.

It mainly always comes in damp still, but it soon dries on the airer overnight and no damp, musty smell that you get from drying inside.

ScoopyDoo · 19/02/2024 13:20

Washing has been out a couple of times this month - even if it just gets half dried that's better than nothing. I don't want/have a tumble drier so drying outside saves on (small) cost of running the dehumidifier and is just better for some reason. Bedding out today after the rain stopped at 10am. I'm working from home so can keep an eye on the clouds.

Skippedthelightfandango · 19/02/2024 13:22

Watching mine now, it went out about 12 and is mostly dry, another hour and it will be good to put away. I only don't t hang out if it's raining.

MrsClatterbuck · 19/02/2024 13:24

Got two lines dried yesterday. All mostly dry but put somethings over the radiator to air.
More out today but only doable as two dry days in a row. Towels and some jumpers on hangers out. If towels not fully dry will finish in tumble dryer for 30 mins.
Apparently we have 0% chance of rain today. Hope they're right.

Namechangeforthis88 · 19/02/2024 13:26

If it's dry and windy you're good, regardless of sunshine and temperatures. I've got two loads on the line now. They might need finishing off at the end of the day but everything is nice and fresh.

nooneknowsitsme · 19/02/2024 14:45

The ground soon dried up this morning so I felt lucky. Bedding line dried outside in two hours, will feel like a real treat to get into bed tonight! As I write this the sun is out and I am listening to the sound of my neighbour mowing his lawn. It almost feels like Spring rather than February.

Comedycook · 19/02/2024 14:46

Yes I am...it's getting dry...ish. I might stick it on the heated airer for twenty minutes afterwards though

DyslexicPoster · 19/02/2024 17:11

Mine was mostly dry when I got in. Glad I took the risk now

Not warm enough yet. Maybe April.

Skippedthelightfandango · 19/02/2024 17:14

Mines come in and it’s putting-away dry. Just used one of the towels for a shower in fact.

I dry outside all the time, so long as it’s not actively raining.
