Recommend me a hoover (please)

Hi, my shark cordless with anti-hair wrap has failed. I've stripped it apart and cleaned every inch of it but it's lost its mojo. I'm looking for a new hoover, i have a mix of hard and carpeted floors and two floof balls that hair up the place. Whilst cordless is convenient I'm starting to think I might be better with a corded for reliability and power. Does anyone have any recommendations for me before I waste another £200 on a duffer.

Bumping as I'm in the same boat !

App13 · 18/02/2024 17:51

I've had a miele since 2005 and despite it requiring hoover bags I think they're the most powerful and long lasting

Lizzieregina · 18/02/2024 17:53

I love my Dyson. I don’t even know how old it is but many years.

AnnoyingPopUp · 18/02/2024 17:56

I also have very floofy floofers who get very muddy, cream carpets, and a daughter with extremely long hair which sheds everywhere. After trying everything under the sun, including the Shark pet anti-hair wrap vacuum (utterly rubbish!), I now have a Dyson anti-hair-wrap cordless (rechargeable) vacuum and it is ace. I also have a Eufy robovac which is sanity-saving.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 18/02/2024 17:57

My dh has the Miele cat and dog hoover since 2004ish (I hate the bloody thing), but he hoovers more than he. I prefer the Henry. We also have a Dyson handheld DCsomething and an electric sweeper thing. Don’t ask, I think I need to change my username to toomanyhoovers 😂

SabrinaThwaite · 18/02/2024 18:01

Miele - even the entry level model works well for hairy pets. The 10 year guarantee on mine ran out a couple of years ago and it’s still going strong.

Bestyearever2024 · 18/02/2024 18:07

Miele every time

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 18/02/2024 18:08

I was at a friend's on Friday and they have a Shark (not sure model) upright corded hoover.
I have a Bosch upright cordless and a Henry (request of my cleaner) but in considering a Shark corded. I planned to research over this coning week.

muddyford · 18/02/2024 18:12

I have had Miele Cat and Dog, or equivalent, for thirty years. Brilliant.

maximist · 18/02/2024 18:20

I love my Hetty (Henry's pink sister) - I did buy a turbo head as the one that came with it isn't great for cat hair, but with that it's great! Lots of power, and no messing about changing from push mode to nozzle mode. They do a cordless one too now, which is tempting, but the wire is so long that I can do a whole floor of the house without having to move the plug.

Vitriolinsanity · 18/02/2024 18:20

Miele

Don't think about it, just get one. Your future self will thank you.

kab89 · 18/02/2024 19:24

My daughter has a cordless shark and it has gone wrong a few times in the warranty period, it's now referred to as Trigger's broom as they have sent replacement parts every time. I have a Miele which I would recommend.

Viewfrommyhouse · 18/02/2024 19:28

Miele Cat and Dog C3. Brilliant vacuum. Mine is a pre EU 2200W model (can still be bought refurbished on ebay). I have a Dyson V11 Absolute for whizzing round but wouldn't be without my Miele.

ArcticBells · 18/02/2024 19:33

Vax as it doubles up as a carpet cleaner

Neilsfavouritechilli · 18/02/2024 20:22

Thank you all for your reccs. Googling hard right now. Miele seems to be coming out top though.

Honestly, I love my Henry.
He tackles everything.
He might not be as sleek as some of the others, but the smiling bucket does the job!

thistimelastweek · 18/02/2024 20:33

I have had many hoovers.

Don't know why but I am the grim reaper of the vacuum world.

Miele, Dyson... You name it, I've killed it.

My conclusions so far are that corded outlive and outperform cordless.

Henry is the best for hard duty like car cleaning and truly neglected areas.

My current Shark is a very good mid-price vacuum cleaner. But I haven't had it long.

Bear in mind that the wattage is a measure of power consumption and not a measure of suction.

Had a cordless Dyson few years back, maybe they’re better now but that one kept breaking. First the battery, then the motor. It was still in warranty when things died so they replaced them free but it was a faff.

When it started going wrong again, got Shark corded anti-hair wrap. Was good but couple years down the line and it seems to be constantly blocked and not clean as well as it did.

Henry arrived today. Love him, so strong he nearly pulled up the sodding carpet. I got the allergy version since everyone else in this house is allergic to dust mites. Plus we have a lot of hard floors and it comes with the standard carpet brush head and a hard floor one.

Was tempted by a Miele but couldn’t see the bags in stock anywhere; didn’t want to struggle to get those. The bagless ones looked good but were more expensive.

JanewaysBun · 18/02/2024 21:14

I have a Miele that will outlive the human race. however it is heavy and bulky. My handheld dyson v7 may not blitz the car like the miele but i use it multiple times a day, it's light and convenient. My miele is the eco one from 2011 ish

muchalover · 18/02/2024 21:14

Hetty.

Two dogs and three cats but it never flags.

Very long cable, turbo foot and never loses suction.

hopsalong · 18/02/2024 22:16

This is the only question about a gadget that has a simple answer.
Miele. I have the C3.
Had a shedload of other hoovers before it (mostly recently a Dyson ball) and got this when my cleaner recommended it (and the Dyson failed).
Quite often as I hoover I feel like complimenting it for doing its one task so well.

Teasie123 · 19/02/2024 13:24

@Neilsfavouritechilli , I've tried them all and the best is the Henry hoover.🤗🤗

Neilsfavouritechilli · 20/02/2024 11:00

Thank you everyone, I looked at Mieles and Henry's and have plumped for a Henry Animal. Henry was cheaper and has that daft face. I'm a sucker for a smile. He's coming tomorrow (and will hopefully manage to clean the stair carpet)

Miele or Dyson. Mind you my elbows can’t cope with the cordless versions. My thirty year old ish DC01 is still going strong after being refurbished twice and is fabulous for carpets and rugs but I recently invested in a eufy robotic G30 and it’s absolutely fantastic. Mind you I’m mainly a wooden floored and tiled house (with a hairy dog downstairs).

I set it going when I’m in and keep an eye on it from its mapping app on my phone and once it’s hoovered I get it to mop the kitchen and hall floors. Best thing I’ve bought in a long long time that hasn’t disappointed me.
