Cleaning baked on oven grease

PastaFasool · 10/12/2023 09:50

Moved into a new house recently. Kitchen is relatively new but previous owners didn't clean much before leaving.

The oven has been a lot of baked on grease / food on the door - any advice for cleaning?

I have tried baking soda and white vinegar, that's lifted soft grease well but not the really baked on stuff.

Products to use, advice generally?

this is what I use too, it's amazing it just scrapes it all off, also used on floor of oven.

Do you soften it first before you scrape ?
I someetimes put a c;oth wrung out in hot water on the bottom of y oven and leave it overnight then use a scrubbie sponge but I need something more heavy duty.

Thankyou for starting this thread op 😂. You've just reminded me that I need I need to clean my oven as well, as mine looks like this too! 🤢 I've got a box of oven pride in the house which I haven't tried out yet, but the reviews seem good. Thank you to the poster who mentioned glass razors! I've just added one to my amazon list, so I'm hoping that'll help get the dirt off in future when cleaning.

Just checking back after a couple of days - loads of great suggestions on here, thanks! I'll give things a try and see how much I can get off, it would be great to save the money on a professional if I can, but even if it DOES need professional cleaning, this is a great thread for future reference!

the previous occupants should be ashamed leaving it like this

CurlyhairedAssassin · 18/12/2023 00:51

You shouldn’t scrub glass with wire wool, it can damage the glass and there is a small risk the heat can then make it explode.

op, I thought that was my oven. It gets like that. I use Ovenmate gel, you paint it on. It’s great. Might need a couple of goes. You can get an oven cleaning pack or just the gel. As well as Lakeland I’ve seen it in Dunelm

HellonHeels · 20/12/2023 15:24

That's what the oven looked like when I bought my house. The previous owner had the cheek to leave me a note with her cleaner's details, saying she recommended her 😂

I bought a new oven.

LadySlipper · 20/12/2023 15:27

Another vote here for the Lakeland Oven Cleaner! It's terrific.

Get a professional in. I got mine done just before Christmas, best £60 I have spent in years.
He also came early as he had a cancellation while I was at work, (DH works from home. ) So I came back to a sparkling oven. Looks brand new.

beetr00 · 28/12/2023 20:21

late to the thread but if you don't want to spend on a professional, then the easiest and most effective solution (dampen tab before rubbing over whole door) is suggested by

Get a hob scraper - basically a razor blade in a housing.
It will take the vast majority off and then you can follow up with a mildly abrasive powder like barkeepers friend.

Soontobe60 · 28/12/2023 20:34

Have you checked if the oven has a pyro cleaning setting?

PastaFasool · 26/03/2024 13:10

Got a professional in to do both the ovens and the hob, he spent 3 hours and went through buckets of water and multiple razor blades - it was money well spent!

I got one of the hob razors for the oven - soaked a microfibre cloth in boiling water with a dash of washing up liquid , let it soak a couple of hours and gave it a try .
Didn;t expext much but OMG - amazing results !

lifeonapersiancarpet · 29/03/2024 22:07

I found the dishwasher tablet does work.

Noidea2024 · 04/04/2024 12:13

Pink Stuff on a very warm door tends to work, although Ind personally pay someone to do it this time, then keep on top of it!
