Cleaning baked on oven grease

PastaFasool · 10/12/2023 09:50

Moved into a new house recently. Kitchen is relatively new but previous owners didn't clean much before leaving.

The oven has been a lot of baked on grease / food on the door - any advice for cleaning?

I have tried baking soda and white vinegar, that's lifted soft grease well but not the really baked on stuff.

Products to use, advice generally?

Assuming that's a glass door and can't be scratched, you need wire wool pads and a bit of welly. Also the Barmans Friend powder might help or pink stuff paste.

Life is way too short to clean ovens. I get someone in to do that.

Roselilly36 · 10/12/2023 09:55

Lakeland sell a great oven cleaning gel, that you brush on when oven is cold. I usually leave it on over night, when wipe it off the next morning. Or you could have it professionally cleaned usually about £50 for a single oven, but I would think they would be booked up at this time of year.

Thanks folks! I have the number of a local guy from friends' recommendations, just seeing if it's something that I can do myself first - but might be one for a pro! I will try the Lakeland cleaner and look out for the Pink Stuff paste...

Warm the oven, and switch off.
Rubber gloves,
Wire wool,
Fairy liquid,
Elbow grease.

Soap filled scourer pads (e.g. brillo pads) or astonish oven and cookware cleaning paste with a scouring sponge

swingtowin · 10/12/2023 13:59

I just use very hot water, s saucepan scrubber and some jif

MadeForThis · 10/12/2023 14:05

Dishwasher tablet

Oven pride or Oven mate from Lakeland

Landaf · 10/12/2023 14:38

Mine was like that. I used easy off oven cleaner. It's horrible stuff but I had tried everything else and this was a last resort. Sprayed on and wiped it off 5 minutes later. Oven door as good as new now.

roses2 · 10/12/2023 14:57

Have you tried Oven Pride? Might need 2-3 goes but it's cheaper than calling in a pro! This needs to be left 5+ hours to soak then it normally wipes off.

SutWytTi · 10/12/2023 14:59

I've always just used vinegar and bicarb for this.

AnnaMagnani · 10/12/2023 14:59

Get an oven cleaner in.

So so much better than doing it yourself.

Vasilevich · 10/12/2023 15:02

Have you got the instructions for the oven?

If it is anything like mine then the door will come off and you can dismantle it to remove the glass (maybe then put it in an oven pride bag) and give the whole thing a thorough clean. I only go the full out cleaning it once a year like that though.

If not then a scrub daddy and some scrub daddy power paste (from B&M).

Oven pride
drip some one the door and leave overnight - leave the racks in the bag - do a flip over before bed - I leave these outside

Wipe it all off the next day.

savemyears · 10/12/2023 15:06

Glass razor from Amazon, they're only about £3 but scrape so well

sunglassesonthetable · 10/12/2023 15:07

So wire wool pads don't scratch?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/12/2023 15:16

Astonish Paste ( I like the orange one ) and a scrubbie foam/green scrubber .
Not the mint one in the tin which is not only a pain in the arse to open, it isn;t worth it when you finally do !

Wire wool on the racks

Nomummyonlyzuul · 10/12/2023 15:35

Astonish paste saved my sanity after trying everything else to get my oven door clean! I now recommend it to anyone that will listen for tough baked on grease 😂

dementedpixie · 10/12/2023 16:26

This is the one I use. It used to come in a big tub and now it's tiny. Good for burnt on marks on pots and pans as well as for cleaning off grease/grime from the oven/cooker

I would use an oven cleaner as a one off.
Then just maintain their work.

If you really to do it yourself the toxic liquid that comes with bags to soak your racks in is great. Particularly when used with a glass scraper.

Bibbitybobbitty · 10/12/2023 19:59

My glass oven door looked like this- used a dishwasher tablet & scrupled up kitchen foil, with a little bit of effort it looked like new. Had tried most of the other portions already mentioned but this was definitely best

this is what I use too, it's amazing it just scrapes it all off, also used on floor of oven.

HappiestSleeping · 11/12/2023 19:10
