Bath Toys are Vile

Well ours are anyway! I keep meaning to do something (like soak them in milton) but obviously not high up on my list of priorities (or I'd go and do it now), I just wince when one of the DCs squeezes another mangey duck and all that black sh*te floats round the bath - bleeurrghh.

Is this the bit where I am outed as a complete scrubber and everyone else sterilises their bath toys weekly?

Well if you are a complete scrubber then so am I

DS has a full set of squeezy Thomas trains/bus and they regularly deposit black sh*te from their mouths in the bath or over DS which he promptly tries to eat if I don't get there quick enough!

No1ErmaBombeckfan · 13/03/2008 21:18

Hands up here too - even worse, I thought I would just make them disappear ...

BirdyArms · 13/03/2008 21:21

If you have a dishwasher stick them all in there. I did that a 3 or 4 months ago and they are still black gunk free.

PhDlifeNeedsaNewLife · 13/03/2008 21:22

my dh just keeps banning ds's toys, one at a time, for this reason.

does soaking them in milton work?

taffy101 · 13/03/2008 21:23

ooh I must try the dishwasher - not when we've had spag bol though as they will go orange (like a certain MNers mooncup)

cut the hole bigger with nail scissors and clean it out with a cotton bud. i have wasted hours doing this.

TrinityfeelslikeahopelessRhino · 13/03/2008 21:25

I spent ages searching for ducks without bumholes so I could carry on being slovenly without gecko eating black gunk.

luckylady74 · 13/03/2008 21:26

I chucked all mine out and now we have solid bath toys - a nice set of sea creatures and some flashing things - no squeezy things ever again!

TrinityfeelslikeahopelessRhino · 13/03/2008 21:26

that was quite a weird sentence

taipo · 13/03/2008 21:27

Black bits - yuk.
And those foam bath tiles that go all slimey. Boak.

southeastastra · 13/03/2008 21:27

but made perfect sense , yes avoid toys with bumholes in the first place .

TrinityfeelslikeahopelessRhino · 13/03/2008 21:28

lol

PhDlifeNeedsaNewLife · 13/03/2008 21:29

so where'd you find these perfect bumhole-free bath toys, then?

snowleopard · 13/03/2008 21:29

We have a few horror ones, which I try to subtly remove every now and then. But my top tip is to give DCs kitchen items to play with in the bath, which are designed to go in the dishwaher. DS has a plastic measuring jug, a sieve and a toddler cup shaped like a penguin with several parts to fit together - he could literally play with this lot for hours and has to be cajoled out of the bath. If I'd known about this I'd never have got any proper bath toys at all. He is attached to his horrible squirty Bertie bus though

DontCallMeBaby · 13/03/2008 21:32

Tolo ducks have no bumholes (and are very cute). It's a shame, whenever I see 'squirty toys' that used to make me think 'oh, cute', now I think 'argh, black slime incubating hell toy'.

snowleopard · 13/03/2008 21:34

We have a nice duck from John Lewis, Sassy i think the make is, with no bumhole.

ELC bumhole ducks met an early binbag.

lackaDAISYcal · 13/03/2008 21:34

Oh this is soooo true.

The worst one for gunking up is the ELC shower thingy...tis truly vile. At least with the squirties you can soak them in milton and then squish them about to loosen up the gunk before flushing out with fresh water. The shower thing is beyond hope, in fact I'm sure it's a health hazard.. In fact I've no idea why we still have it. It just lurks at the bottom of the toy box.

poor tiny tears; she really needs to see a health professional about that

taffy101 · 13/03/2008 21:41

lol at toys without bumholes!
We do have some sassy bath squirters which claim to be mildew resistant. so far they seem to be...

it's only algae i suppose

cadelaide · 13/03/2008 21:48

dcs have lately been playing with a doll in the bath.
Her head came off and they started screaming, twas the eyeballs see, scarey enough anyway but with the black gunk too..oh!,the horror!, the horror!.

bilblio · 13/03/2008 21:49

Black wee is still better than the tiny tears I had as a kid. She wee'd out of her neck.
Black wee out of her neck would be like some horror movie.

And my Mum wonders why I never really played with dolls as a kid... becuase they terrified me!!

snowleopard · 13/03/2008 21:52

If it's black mould, that can be dangerous I think.

be afraid, be very afraid

Am liking the "extensive mould growth indoors could be an indication of an unhealthy living environment" shocker.
