Does anyone have any tips for the smell, it's not a feet smell it's a wet plastic and something else smell. I've hand washed in bio and left to soak in detol which a has helped but not got rid. Anyone found the magic solution?

I haven’t experience of football boots smelling yet but do find bicarbonate of soda gets rid of most smells . I buy it at the Pound shop and sprinkle it on generously and leave for a while . I’ve done this inside trainers before!

I had to discard ds boots and get new ones in the end, the honked. It wasn't sweaty feet but more of damp mildew smell. I tried bicarb, the lot, I think once the smell is in ingrained in the fabric that's it.

With the new boots I store them with the boot inserts from Amazon in that soak in moisture. Use an electronic boot drier when they're really damp and a deodorising spray, no problems yet.

I've heard the sneaker balls are good too.

Some brands of football boots (Nike I'm looking at you here!) use an adhesive or leather treatment that stinks of cat pee when it's got wet and sweaty. It's a chemical reaction I believe and means I'm spending a bloody fortune on various deodorisers and then buying new pairs after giving up trying everything after one small pair of damp shoes makes the entire downstairs of the house stink like a full cattery with no staff!
The latest pair have teabags in them right now (thanks google) and the smell is not too bad. Just a localised cloud of stink near them.

Valhalla17 · 26/10/2023 05:24

Vinegar. I soak them in a water and vinegar bath (in sink or bucket) for a few hours, then wash/rinse and let dry.

Ha ha this is like my utility. We use tea bags too. The smell is vile isn't it.

HappiestSleeping · 27/10/2023 06:16

If it is for related and not adhesive related, put them in a bag and stick them in the freezer overnight. That will kill any bacteria and stop aromas.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/10/2023 06:39

I think it’s worse when they are constantly wet, like they are at this time of year. If you can get them dry between uses the smell is much less but it’s still horrible, like cat wee.

Jaffajiffy · 27/10/2023 06:53

We have just bought this usb dryer and charcoal and tea tree powder. Wish us luck!

Nothing works!
Keep them in the garage

@MrsPerfect12 this has changed our life!

DS16 is out every weekend training/refereeing/playing every weekend. DH and I were fed up with smelly football boots lingering on our garage (could even smell them in our kitchen)

So I decided to google and found this. Its totally changed our life.

The Football boots are dried out on the inside with a towel first, once done 20 - 30 mins on the dryer and they are done.

No more smell in the garage/kitchen = happy parents. On the plus side a pair is ready for DS when ever he wants to play football.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 cat wee that's exactly the smell and we don't have a cat. My kids are 7 & 9 so trying to find a solution before the added smell of feet also adds to the problem.

Let me know how that works please.
they'll be getting new boots at Xmas to happy to play around the next few weeks to find something that works

MrsPerfect12 · 27/10/2023 09:04

I like that and will get one but My kids boots still smell once dry.
Did the smell never start when you use this from the beginning or did you use something to kill the smell first?

Dd has Nike boots and they stink the house out with that cat pee smell! Its disgusting 🤢🤢
I've tried tea bags, bicarbonate of soda and sprays.

I'll probably have to get one of those boot dryers because she trains four times a week and plays 2/3 matches but as soon as I get paid it all seems to be gone lately 😫

It worked for my son's boots. They stank! I've done it once about a month ago and they are OK for now...I got them dry quicker by putting them under the radiator once washed

I'm not quite sure how I didn't read that back before posting, obviously hadn't woken up yet.

Hopefully you got the gist. I meant if it is foot odour as opposed to glue odour, then the freezer works for the most part.

@MrsPerfect12 we stuffed the boots with towels before putting on the dryer, just to get the worst of the wet smell out of the boots. Then stuck them on the dryer for 20 mins (can be longer). It's done the trick, so I'm glad I bought one

was going to say Nike to
nothing gets rid but i put in newspaper which masks the smell and helps them dry out

RudsyFarmer · 28/10/2023 21:01

We keep the boots in the garage so they just honk out there.
