I want a washing machine that isn't a twat

Current machine is unreliable, chiefly because it is over-engineered: instead of simple clockwork knobs, it has touchscreen buttons, that break. It takes forever to turn on or off, or switch programmes, because it thinks for itself. I wish it didn't - I can think much faster than it can and I just want it to do as it's told without fuss, or trying to contact the wifi, or 'sensing' the load.

I want a simple, no frills, washing machine. Probably only obtainable in the 1990s, or the USA, where they still make indestructible, amber-coloured workhorses.

I'm probably doomed to disappointment, but please hit me with your top recs

Anyone remember the Toaster in “Red Dwarf”? That’s where we are heading.

I've got a hotpoint that sings when it finishes and frustrates the heck out of my mum when she visits but its perfect for me. My washing machine is upstairs so the tune is handy as I can just about hear it in the living room. It's 11 years old and so far still going strong.

My mum has a hoover which has a knob control which she loves and I can't stand due to hand issues.

I know someone has already slagged off LG but if you get an LG washing machine with direct drive then there are no belts and pulleys to snap and mine is ten years old with not a flicker. My mum has the same one but it’s older still. Not as pricey as the Bosch or Miele ones but it’s been very reliable.

EquallyDetermined · 14/12/2023 08:30

I didn’t know that, we’ve got one of those (LG Direct Drive).

This Indesit one. Bloody fantastic. I've had 3 (at different properties, not cos it broke!). Cheap, simple and not too many programmes. https://www.argos.co.uk/product/8211475

I hate my Ebac it's a joke. Doesn't like spinning any load, hit and miss. Have to resort practically every time to re spin on 600, takes forever. Absolute horror of a machine.

Nooo! I have my heart set on an EBacc hot fill machine.

Red Dwarf Toaster. Grin

Most mums want simplistic. A simple wash for 30,40,60,90. An occasional half load. But no. Companies give you uber complicated machines that have 15 buttons and choices just to get it to do a load! Yet no one listens to us.
