Does anyone actually get dressed to SHOES!!

Trying to do the flylady thing (not going too well, but I have great plans!) In the book she really goes on about Getting Dressed To Shoes. I don't wear shoes in the house and I like guests to take their shoes off in my house, I just don't like the idea of trampling loads of dirt from outside around. Wondering does anyone do this and does it help?

No, I don't wear shoes in the house - in fact, I'm normally barefoot as I think it is much healthier to walk around in bare feet.

Wearing shoes at home is Very Strange, IMO.

PrettyCandles · 29/02/2008 14:02

Haven't read this (too scarey ) but couldn't you have a pair of 'foot garments' that you define as Shoes, so that you can achieve the Getting Dressed To Shoes thing? I have a pair of sandals that I always wear indoors, like others wear slippers, I suppose.

flylady advocates getting dressed (including your shoes) before starting on anything in the house. Think (IIRC) the idea is that you're more likely to get up and do something if you're dressed for "work" than if you're lounging around in your dressing gown and slippers .

JingleyJen · 29/02/2008 14:06

I don't because we don't wear shoes round the house.
I think she is right about getting up and dressed though.. does set you up for the day rather than staying in Pj's until you have to go out.

i wear shoes all day if im in the house. We have cold wooden floors!

2GIRLS · 29/02/2008 14:10

I always wear slippers in the house.
The flylady says always get dressed in the morning, which is good idea, and 'don't forget your lace up shoes', which I take to mean put your outside shoes on, not your slippers.

I think it's something to do with being ready to take the rubbish out so it doesn't sit on the floor, or ready to get on and do things. Or something.

Hi

It's lace up shoes as there is some effort required to take them off before getting distracted from hoovering or whatever and 'putting your feet up' rather than finishing what you do.

No, I get dressed but keep my slippers on!

terramum · 01/03/2008 01:01

I do & I find I definately get more done if I'm wearing some proper ones rather than my slip-ons. Means I can wizz round the house getting it all done rather than shuffling . I have a pair of lace up pumps (MIL got in tesco for 79p but never actually wore them so gave them to me) so I generally use those. I can't wear them outside (apart from nipping to the garage or dustbin) as I can't walk very far in flat soles so they don't dirty the carpet.

kutilputil · 12/03/2008 01:18

this rule with the shoe is so true, i'm lazy and always leave jobs till later or tommorow or NEVER!But when i get dressed to go out and then something comes up or i am delayed and there are household jobs still to do, i actually do them HAPPILY, DO IT WELL AND IN LESS TIME AND EFFORT, and i find i'm more productive and sharp and dont faff about so much!i am a SAHM but worked or studied for most of my life and was very good at all that i did, the getting dressed and shoes thing definately has a lot to do with it.Now i am at home, i look a mess, i feel a mess and have no reason to be bothered with much, as hubby doesn't even notice when i make the effort!Whilst dating he could notice the perfume i wore everyday!SAD, I KNOW....HAVE I SAID TOO MUCH?

dylsmum1998 · 12/03/2008 10:03

i don't get dressed to the shoes, bt i do get up and get dressed do my hair etc. this makes me feel "ready". then i get on a do the cleanin. i don't , as many others have said, allow shoes to be worn inside

jazzandh · 12/03/2008 10:14

Always get ready as soon as I am up, but again - not shoes in house. But I keep a pair of mules by the door, so there's no excuse not to slip them on and shoot out!

taliac · 12/03/2008 11:25

You know, I going to post this very question as its been annoying me too.

Get dressed to lace up shoes just seems stupid. And yes I have been reading the testimonials about "well i didn't believe it until there was a fire in the prairie and it nearly reached the house's oil store and blew us all up but because I had my SHOES on I got there in time to stop it!!" I mean, WTF!

Yes I know, the Americans live differently.

Anyway, I have been SO annoyed by this particular baby step that I have resisted it firmly. Until yesterday when I actually tried it.

Oh dear, it does actually sorta work. I did more stuff when I had proper shoes on, not just outside things (bins etc) but indoor things too.. I was shocked. I'm a WAHM so maybe it makes me feel more proper in some way..

We don't have outdoor shoes on in the house either, but I did read somewhere on flylady.net a suggestion of having a "special" pair of lace ups for indoors. I quite fancy a pair of plimsolls.. I could FLY and show off my retro cred at the same time!

snowleopard · 12/03/2008 11:32

wtf... what a bizarre phrase, "get dressed to shoes" - so that you can be better at your housework????

This is the first time I've commented on all this flylady weirdness because I've assumed it couldn't be as mad as it seems. But it is! Housework is not that important! get it out of the way as quick as you can, shoes or no shoes, and do something else!

SSSandy2 · 12/03/2008 11:35

LOL about the prairie fire!

Why do they need to be lace-up shoes though?

snowleopard · 12/03/2008 11:37

Because it's harder to get them off and start slacking apparently!!!

SSSandy2 · 12/03/2008 11:39

ah well I don't wear lace up shoes so I'm excusedfrom this one!

go and do somehting productive snowleopard
If you don't 'get' it, don't comment

there are some people who struggle ALOT with 'getting it out of the way as quick as possible' you obviously don't have any of those problems
so be happy for yourself and stop putting others down and the methods they use to help themselves

please

SSSandy2 · 12/03/2008 11:42

ruby chasing the binman with a chicken carcass definitely counts. Good work. Take it they were not high heels then?

taliac · 12/03/2008 11:43

Well you are obviously BO (born organised) and therefore have no need of the FLYlady! Can you tell I'm on the babystep where you go and read stuff on the site??

Being serious for a second.. It is a bit over the top, I know.. but my life is desperately in need of something to get me / the house / my life more organised. FLYlady is a system for doing that, and if it works I shall not knock it.

snowleopard · 12/03/2008 11:53

Well that's me told.

Believe me I don't think it's daft because I have no probs with housework and my home is a gleaming palace. No. It's more to do with centralising and glamourising housework as something that is or should be a major preoccupation in women's lives. I find that worrying. I'll get me coat.

snowleopard · 12/03/2008 11:55

oops glamorising
