Those of you with guest rooms…

…what do you do with the bedding in between guests?

Do you wash immediately after a guest leaves and put it back on the bed? (Potentially gets dusty before next guest)

Do you leave the dirty bedding on and wash it just before the new guest? (Sweat etc gets soaked in, any unnoticed stains may set)

Or do you wash it immediately and put it away and leave the bed there until the next guest is it about to arrive? (Bed looks ugly, duvet and pillows etc can get dusty)

I leave it on and then change it day before the next guest Blush

Same, except usually it’s a couple hrs before they arrive BlushBlushBlush

Remove wash and peg out used bedding. Iron then put in linen chest. Put new bedding on bed so it's ready if needed. Cover with a throw.

I would usually air the bed for a day, then remake and bedspread on top. Would then wash bedding a day or two before new guests arrive.

I don’t have as many guests nowadays. I live on my own and have two spare rooms. I alternate which room I sleep in, quite like switching up my environment every so often! The rooms I’m not sleeping in get the bedspread treatment as the cat likes sleeping on the beds.

Wash and remake within a few days
Kind of wondering how dusty the bedding can get between visitors!

Made up ready for the next batch, and then bedspread over the top. It gets used as a dumping ground so does need the bedspread to make sure it's still nice and fresh for the next guests!

Same

Remove, wash and replace straight away. The bedding getting dusty on the bed between guests has never been something I've even considered.

Same here, bed linen and towels washed, everything put back and room cleaned and hoovered after each visit .
but I can go months between guest, it never gets dusty. But the room doesn’t get dusty either. The windows are opened to air after guests, then again before guest, and in between shut, door closed . I go in once every couple of weeks just to check that everything is in order , and that’s it

I never know if someone will want to stay overnight in emergency , so room is always ready. And then I have planned guests maybe a few time per year

but then I’m fortunate in having a proper “spare” room that doesn’t get used for anything else now. It’s small and not much room for anything but double bed and chest of drawers, and some pegs on wall. But perfect for guests

I have another spare bed , used very rarely and is bed settee in a room I use all the time . In that case I strip, clean the room, launder linen and then store clean linen and the bedding away .

Even clean sheets after a time don’t smell fresh, they aren’t stale or musty exactly but just don’t smell fresh anymore. On the other hand, I don’t like the heavily scented detergents that linger for weeks, they make the sheets have a sickening smell.

Freshly laundered sheets using a clean smelling and very very lightly scented or unscented detergent are my preference. So, sheets are washed right after guests but if next guests aren’t due for a long while, then they will be freshly washed again day before or day of. We don’t have frequent guests so a while goes by in between. I do like to put a bedspread over everything because the cat likes to lie down there sometimes.

I’ve just been in my spare room. Smelled my clean bedding that’s been on since last guest stayed in late April
they still smell fresh and faintly of conditioner .
The room is small, windows not opened between guests when I air the room before and after , door kept shut, newly decorated and plastered and carpeted when I moved in 2 years ago.
and new pillows and duvet purchased then

respectively if the sheets don’t continue to smell fresh after a while it’s because either bedding is older, room isn’t fresh, or you’ve got traffic/ air going in and out, or god forbid a damp problem

I don’t use conditioner or any additional chemically scented products. Just a plain detergent with few ingredients and a very very light naturally derived scent. Even the natural detergents can have too sickly a scent for me. Respectively. Or did you mean respectfully?

Not really related but a while back I saw all the glowing reviews for Diva laundry detergent. It was the worst smell I’d ever smelled ever. It wasn’t as apparent in the bottle so I thought I’d try it because of all the reviews. It is the most sickening cloying awful stink. And it won’t go away. It lingers loudly forever if not mitigated. I had to wash my sheets four times and the smell still wouldn’t come out. It fills the whole room. I am not exaggerating. I was looking for fresh and clean, well that wasn’t it.

My guests strip their beds before they leave, so I wash the bedding the same day. It then lives in the airing cupboard until needed for the next visitors.
It really doesn’t matter what bare mattresses look like in the spare rooms, does it? You don’t go in except to hoover between visits. I just chuck the duvets on top with throwovers.
