Welcome to a long running chatty thread. We love new faces so feel free to join us as we attempt to tame the chaos and building routines using the fly lady system.

We have a few words and phrases that we use that might not make sense, just ask and someone will explain. I'd like to explain but the brain noped hard and i can't think of any

a few rules cos i like rules
🍄you are never behind. Jump in where you are with what needs doing because everything comes around again

🍄you can't clean clutter. lets be honest you can but it is going to take 50 times as long to get the basics done and you might loose the will to continue in the process. So that pile of paperwork that needs dealing with, yeah we all have one. Deal with it don't ignore it.

🍄be kind to yourself. chaos does not happen in one day unless you decide to knock down a wall but that's a different kind of chaos so it is going to take more than one day to get rid of it. Also habits take time to build and reinforce.

So tomo we start with the baby steps and you can find the information about it here

In case the links go awry the launch pad which is a good place for starting to explore the system more can be found here

Saturday is family fun day so do something fun with the family.
You can define what fun means to you and your family. It doesn't have to be big and flashy, ie could just be watching a film together.

Ta Das (so far):
🧚‍♀️ meal plan done (only through Wednesday though as we're going camping again)
🧚‍♀️ shopping list mostly done
🧚‍♀️ fridge mostly cleaned out (still have the veggie drawers to do)
🧚‍♀️ eggs rinsed (farm fresh, not rinsed at all)
🧚‍♀️ 21 eggs hard boiled
🧚‍♀️ 23 eggs placed in plastic egg storage

I'm about to go through online coupons for groceries & will need to leave the house soon to go shopping. So far I've done quite a bit of sitting on the couch as well, which is actually hurting my back! Must get moving around more!

Ditzy did you ever do before pictures, before starting decluttering? I love having the house to myself, when DS goes back to school I'll have it to myself every Tuesday again (unless contractors are here doing work).

Elf I did assume it was the V, not the D that blocked the sink, however, that did make me chuckle as it reminded me of the bathroom scene in the movie Bridesmaids "DON'T LOOK AT ME!" makes me laugh every time!

Cherry it is a good thing that he does help out with some things. I really do think upbringing has a lot to do with men helping out as I'm not so convinced they're wired the same way we are and they struggle more with housework (not saying they shouldn't help or learn, by any means, just think it's not as natural for them, thanks to our ancestors)

Must.get.moving 🙄

BloomingHazel · 31/07/2023 04:16

I didn't do much more moving after I posted earlier 😳 but here are some more ta das:
🧚‍♀️ shopping list finished
🧚‍♀️ online coupons added
🧚‍♀️ grocery shopping done
🧚‍♀️ relaxed in the pool with 2 3 ciders
🧚‍♀️ showered, scrubbed, shaved
🧚‍♀️ self tanner applied
🧚‍♀️ dinner cooked (inside out omelettes) 😋
🧚‍♀️ cooked lunch for tomorrow
🧚‍♀️ DS rinsed dishes and rotated DW
🧚‍♀️ I wiped down kitchen countertops, stovetop and microwave
🧚‍♀️ sink is shiny 😇

So I've been practicing for leading next months thread. I'm going to drop a couple of links, mainly so I can try them! I plan on having a new thread created tomorrow at some point (my time) so hopefully it'll be early enough for you all!
Also I've never created my own thread on mn before, so wish me luck! 🍀

Woohoo! Those links worked for me! Hopefully they work for you too

DomesticElf · 31/07/2023 06:50

Hazel that scene was hilarious 🤣🤣

Thank you for taking on leading the next thread! Links are perfection 👌

CherryogDog · 31/07/2023 06:53

Worked for me too!
Reminded me that I bought the Kilrock gel limescale remover for my kitchen tap but didn't get round to using it.
See you all next week 👋

Dancingtomusic · 31/07/2023 09:48

Cherry- take care, have a lovely week!

Hazel- its true if the guy has grown up helping with the house it helps.

Elf- thank u 😊 - what is the Venturi effect please? I think i need to try it here.

Ditzy- omg 🤣 i nearly spat my tea out 🤣

I think you have made a very astute observation! I am back to my strong minded, happy self and self assured personality. As a stay at home mum i was a doormat for my dad, dh and my brother. I craved a mother to look after me while i stuggled with tiny babies and motherhood. I have alot of battle scars but I feel healed and stronger than ever.
Currently my dad is not speaking with me as i was late to see him on Saturday. (I was so busy decluttering my sitting room and washing 6 piles of washing- i felt i wanted to go as soon as my washing was done.)
They definately dont like me being strong and are destroying happy moments. I am going to side step this kind of behaviour from them.

Hazel, Elf, cherry - I need to watch bridemaids now! 😂

Sorry for the long post 😊🍒👋
I need to finish decluttering the sitting room. I sorted through a box of random crap from 1.5 years ago when i was volunteering and taught art with my class!!! Why is that still here! 🤦‍♀️ Straight in the recycling.
I am recycling or sending to charity anything i find that i have not used or seen for 1.5 years. Charity bag is getting bigger. Thats a win here!
Music is on here to motivate me.

Thank you so much for taking on the thread next month hazel

Sorry been so absent this month. Slowly slowly slowly starting to find a little energy and get slowly back to functioning.

Dancing Venturi effect is a physics thingy where a fluid passing through a narrower part of pipe generates pressure difference. This basically means that when you flush the toilet there is a suction effect in sink plumbing (in most conventional bathroom plumbing), which helps to clear any blockages once you loosen it up a bit.

Hills I am glad to hear you are slowly emerging into the land of living. Don't overdo things, please take care of yourself.

Ta das:
🎶Bed stripped and remade
🎶LOL X3. Dry stuff put away. Washed more pillows. I didn't realise how many pillows we have until I started washing them.
🎶Usual kitchen clean up and DW rotation.
🎶Fishtanks sorted X2. Will do the 3rd one tomorrow. Hopefully fishies should be ok for next 2 weeks, as I will be out of action and won't be able to change water for them due to c section. They survived 2 week holidays before, so I am not anticipating major problems.

McToddler is definitely sensing a looming change. His 'listening ears' weren't working as well as one would hope today 🥴

Planning on doing some major relaxing tomorrow. Eek.

BloomingHazel · 31/07/2023 23:58

dancing sorry to hear your dad isn't talking to you, that's hard to deal with.
hills thank you for running the July thread with everything you've had going on. I hope your energy levels increase and you feel 100% soon.

Redsquirrel5 · 01/08/2023 13:44

Wow it has been a fortnight since I got on here. Hi everyone off to see where we are supposed to be.I have been in Room of Doom this week and some of it is now in Boudoir. I sorted and counted blankets made and have 7 completed so had to start another last night.I am getting slightly obsessed. I have a friend making socks so we will send it all for October as it is still hot there.

Ooh just had a quick look at the link she has been peeking into my windows. Clean them I have to get to them first! Dining room has bags and boxes of stuff. One side Ukraine one side mine and the table has stuff to make decisions on and take to charity shop which is tomorrow.

Hills Thank you for doing what you could.I was AWOL most of the month.

Hazel thank you and good luck.It is partly why I don't offer.ICT not my best subject although(puffs out chest) I did a Live Chat about viewing a house today. Not actually 'talking' to someone but it all went ok except now the site wont accept my email password after the event.
I shouldn't have read your thread as I had just sat down with lunch!

Dancing. Passive aggressive behaviour.Ignore it. Bloody men!
You seem to be doing loads.I have stuff older than that. We will not discuss the fact that it s possibly older than you!

Domestic Elf Wow I can't believe you are nearly due. I have been missing out.Hope all goes well. I used to have a pile of small books and read to Toddler while feeding Baby to stop jealousy. It worked for me. Feet up every afternoon just now, I insist at least an hour.

Cherry waves to everyone.I will try to at least read along. Ipad not great signal in middle of the night for some reason.Just on Mumsnet. (D)H was very rude about Mumsnet last month so been off main computer.

England 4 -1

Right must go and catch up it has been a paperwork/computer morning this morning.

PLAN
I have ironing. Ironing board almost kaput.

Room of Doom - Clear some space and vacuum half of floor.I have Rainbow drawers from Hobbycraft and nearly filled them. Easier for sorting though.A4
boxes have been moved along after trying to give son DS2 his football shirts.

Might frame one for Christmas as he decided to leave them here. Other plan is to visit and go to loo.Drop off in a drawer while upstairs! Repeat with DS3.

Dining room. Will try and do Ukraine side and load in car to deliver to church tomorrow.

Trying to keep sane.

Shannaratiger · 18/08/2023 11:38

Morning all

Sorry haven't been on much will try and catch up some later.
Have just been offered a position in the clothing department at my local Tesco's. It's completely different to anything I've done before, I'm feeling anxious but also excited.
Will be rewriting my routines around my shifts.
I do actually seem to get more stuff done when I'm working rather than having all empty days.
Just waiting for a text with my shifts.
Will be back on later when read some of the posts and found my shifts.
