Welcome to a long running chatty thread. We love new faces so feel free to join us as we attempt to tame the chaos and building routines using the fly lady system.

We have a few words and phrases that we use that might not make sense, just ask and someone will explain. I'd like to explain but the brain noped hard and i can't think of any

a few rules cos i like rules
🍄you are never behind. Jump in where you are with what needs doing because everything comes around again

🍄you can't clean clutter. lets be honest you can but it is going to take 50 times as long to get the basics done and you might loose the will to continue in the process. So that pile of paperwork that needs dealing with, yeah we all have one. Deal with it don't ignore it.

🍄be kind to yourself. chaos does not happen in one day unless you decide to knock down a wall but that's a different kind of chaos so it is going to take more than one day to get rid of it. Also habits take time to build and reinforce.

So tomo we start with the baby steps and you can find the information about it here

In case the links go awry the launch pad which is a good place for starting to explore the system more can be found here

Saturday is family fun day so do something fun with the family.
You can define what fun means to you and your family. It doesn't have to be big and flashy, ie could just be watching a film together.

Actually I do wish Aldi had some self service tills, I know the checkout staff are fast but if you only want a few things having to stand in a queue behind 2 trolley loads is annoying. Lidl have them and I pop in more often now because of it (I don’t use either for my main shop though).

All the newer Aldi's near us have self service tills so maybe you'll get some too.

And yes I do have a new (to me) phone. First thing I did was look for you guys as I've been mentally posting my lists each day I've been away.

We even had a date night last week and we are out again tonight but with the kids this time. Still it's a major achievement for us after 5 years of not going out.
But ying and yang the car is a bombsite.

EvenmoreDetermined · 07/07/2023 16:58

Our Aldi had a big refurbishment about three years ago, was closed for a few months and when it reopened there was no discernible change. However a Lidl is being built very close to it so they might have to up their game - at the moment the nearest one is 10 miles away, but convenient for me as its very close to my work.

DitzyDaffodils · 07/07/2023 23:19

Hazel I'd get rid of all that plastic damaged by the fire. It's not meant to be heated. Even if it's not destroyed you don't know if it's now leaching chemicals into the atmosphere or something. What a total nightmare it all is for you

Thanks for the warning Cherry and Hazel about washing curtains with a lining. I'll have to remember that

I remember the machine Hills I had to use it in my first retail job, I remember it was for cheque guarantee cards and had carbon paper in it I think

Of course you're not forgotten Pompoms. Nice to see you again

BloomingHazel · 08/07/2023 16:25

Ditzy I agree. I'm planning on replacing those drawers, just need to find a replacement.

pompoms I'm glad you were able to have a date night. We were able to go on date nights more when the DC were younger, as they would go to their GPs. Now DS is 13 so doesn't want to go stay anywhere else! We can go out though whenever we want, which is nice.

YesTaDas:
🍷 figured out lots of pricing of food & personal care items we've had to throw away 😱 we're over $1400 right now! We won't be replacing all of it though so haven't spent anywhere near that yet to replace them. We still have to inventory the freezer! Thank goodness the chest freezer stuff is good still.
🍷 DS had done home bleugh yesterday. I had done a lot of it on Thursday too, but we no longer have black feet walking in the house! 🥳 so all the vacuuming and mopping has paid off <phew>
That was pretty much it for yesterday. I was working all day. We went out for dinner last night, had some wine and worked on the pricing whilst sitting on the couch with our feet up.

BloomingHazel · 08/07/2023 16:43

To Dos:
☕️ meal planning for the week
☕️ finish grocery shopping list (it's very long)
☕️ grocery shopping <ugh>
☕️ have DS clean the pool of debris
☕️ have DS help me out the new solar cover on the pool (it arrived yesterday)
☕️ have DS help me make the bases for the pizzas I'm making tonight for dinner with ILs
☕️ give Dobby a bath (Coco got one the other day)
☕️ deadhead my roses as I haven't had a chance since the fire

I'm hoping to get all that done today. I really need to repaint my toes, but that might have to get done tomorrow, I guess it can be renewing my spirit!
I do still have a few more kitchen cupboards & one more drawer to go through and clean, but most are done now. I'll see what I can get done this weekend.
I probably should clean the oven too 🤔

BloomingHazel · 09/07/2023 01:44

I have done everything except bathe Dobby, that'll have to be done tomorrow.
DH & DS inventoried and emptied the freezer, I cleaned it. We now have 2 things in there 😪 (they were bought after the fire, so safe to eat).
🍒👋 to everyone

partypompoms · 09/07/2023 18:57

@BloomingHazel it sounds like you have had an awful time. I've obviously missed a lot but I hope things are improving for you.

We've had a quiet family day with a roast and I've cleaned the bathroom. I've renewed my spirit by reading my book and starting Duolingo which I've wanted to do for a while.

DomesticElf · 09/07/2023 23:02

Hazel sounds like you are getting there. I am sorry about all the things that got lost to the fire. I hope insurance will be able to cover most of it.
Ditzy are the curtains salvageable?

My hormones must be all over the shop as my mood has been pretty bad today. Everything annoys me. The number of times I had to apologise to my toddler today for being unreasonably grumpy.. honestly, I just need to put myself in timeout or something. Not exactly winning any parenting awards today.
It would help if DH would emerge from his phone and actually participate in family life/housework.

Ta das:
🫠Cleaned the kitchen
🫠Recycling out to the bins
🫠Plant food to indoor and outdoor plants
🫠Deadheaded roses. Hazel mine were massively overdue too.

Tomorrow is another day.

DitzyDaffodils · 10/07/2023 01:23

Elf I haven't any need to wash my curtains yet, but when I do I'll treat them as delicate, 20°C and a little shampoo instead of detergent. I've not found anything which can't cope with that

I'm doing ok with the decluttering. This week I threw out some craft supplies I was never realistically going to get round to using. Got rid of some clothes I was never going to wear again. Tidied under the sink and got rid of some things from there.

CherryogDog · 10/07/2023 08:07

Morning 🌄 everyone 👋
Other than normal dailies, and a lick and promise in the kitchen, nothing has been fly lady'd here.
Had a very lazy day Saturday, and a trip to the sea side yesterday.
Back on it today, starting with organising my tack room, DP has offered to help me so taking advantage of that.

partypompoms · 10/07/2023 18:50

@DomesticElf I'm exactly the same when it's my period. I've marked it on the calendar so people can give me a wide berth. I've been to the dr for blood tests but everything is fine and they are ringing tomorrow for a chat. I've also got shingles again so thought I'd drop that into convo too.

☔️ home bleurgh
☔️ made naan breads
☔️ went to cancelled sports day
☔️ lol
☔️ Duolingo
☔️ decluttered two items

EvenmoreDetermined · 11/07/2023 07:11

Morning, getting everything back in place post-renovations very slowly here. DH assembled some Ikea shoe racks at the weekend (the sort with the pull down front). I have been putting books back on shelves. We want to get rid of some old office furniture (filing/shelving units) as they had become dumping grounds but do need to find new homes for some of the stuff, whilst getting rid of some too. Still spending every free evening taking DS out driving.

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 11/07/2023 08:28

<pokes head ashamedly round door, scuttles straight to naughty corner>

Room for a returner please? 🥺😳

I basically stopped using MN at all for a while, life got crazy busy, but we are so close to summer now (9 more working days for me) and DD1 got through her GCSEs really well (no clue if she will get the grades for her chosen college, but she amazed me with her resilience given her anxiety and SEND! 🏆). So it feels like a good time to start getting into better habits re the house/life admin. I have a weekend break with the Caglets coming up but other than that our only plans are getting their two bedrooms decorated including flooring, new beds etc so it’s a daunting big project.

This summer feels like the first proper summer holidays in years - for so long school holidays were irrelevant due to home educating (younger two still are although DS starts part time college in September!!!), then Covid, and now I not only have a term time job, but my OU degree courses have lined up with school years too. So it really is a full break.

Anyway today I have no meetings other than a catch up with my team, and I want to focus on work admin, but also life admin and house stuff! Feeling a bit overwhelmed so I’ll go straight in to Power of Three and will try not to post a couple of lists and then fall off the thread for the hundredth time 😁

po3.1
❗️Shower/hair wash, defrost legs and get dressed
❗️Scrape enough stuff together for a LOL (which REALLY needs to be the last one before I put everything away 😳)
❗️Play a card game with Cagletini and DH

Have a great day all, I’ll be catching up on the thread later - I’ve missed you guys 💐

BloomingHazel · 11/07/2023 14:48

Perry you're back! There's always room for returnees 💐 do you have any plans yet for your summer break? (Other than planning to rest and reset, which would make the perfect summer break!)

ED are those shoe racks the ones that close up to hide everything?

No ta das for yesterday. I just bought a few things to replace some of the stuff thrown out.

To Dos:
☕️ take dogs to groomer. They're long overdue
☕️ bathe dogs
☕️ dentist appts for DS and me
☕️ wait for textile team to come back with our emergency supply. It should have been yesterday, but they wanted to quality check everything first
☕️ take DS shopping to replace clothes he no longer wanted (or never wore, with tags on 🙄)
☕️ at least one LOL. There's not much as DS did a load yesterday, but there are towels from swimming that can be washed, they're not going at all (didn't smell of smoke)
☕️ vacuum main floor
☕️ mop main floor
☕️ bleach bathrooms
☕️ clean out more cupboards in the kitchen (most are done, but there's still more to do)

I didn't think my list was that long 😕 until I typed it out! I also need to fit a shower in there somewhere too!
🍒👋 be back later, hopefully

Redsquirrel5 · 11/07/2023 18:26

Joins Perry in the naughty corner! Hugs!

Hi everyone. Sorry for not being here. A combination of ICT trouble- I have accidentally sorted some of it.I can now read on Ipad (most of the time) but not post. I deleted some history and that seemed to work. Difficult to get on here.DH spends a lot of time on.Every morning.Every day.

I have well and truly fallen off the branch.House is a mess. Garden looks great and the village too as we were entered in a competition.Judging over so less to do in the village.🖐

I have joined a Card Making class 2 x month (Jan) and recently a craft and chat on Wednesday mornings. Just 5 of us so far. I have finished all the squares and completed 12 blankets for Ukraine. I have some wool to start some more but taking a little break to make some things for myself. Also joined local WI. Dining room is a tip. Full of stuff I have been given and need to sort and deliver to various groups/ people. Helped a lady who is ill to move some of her stash.I seem to have a lot here so must move some tonight and take it with me tomorrow.I enjoyed looking through some magazines but have kept some.I made myself clear some in summer house though. i do enjoy the crafting when I get a chance.

Personnel life a bit 😝so emotional rollercoaster. Plans not going well. No holiday planned though I might go somewhere in September with my sister if she is well enough.I am waiting for my passport to return. They are insisting i return it but it still hasn't run out yet.😩Must remember to do that tomorrow. Driving licence sent and came back in 3 days! Dare say that will be my last one.
Went on Gardening Club outing and it was great.
Car is still waiting to be fixed, no parts, back to waiting for it to be fixed now. I can't get out much. DS@ too me but not for whole day, not where I wanted and drove past Hotel when I suggested lunch so I had nothing to eat until 4pm. Had a viewing for house second time but no garden.

Health not brilliant but GP thinks it is stress related then nurse rang to say bloods back and I'm to go on statins. i will be rattling at this rate.

Hazel so sorry to hear you have had a fire. When was that?

ED great to hear you at the putting back stage. I just saw those shoe things in an old magazine yesterday.I could do with one but I have a table in the hall(folded down) I am saving for niece.

Right off to find out what zone I am in.No idea what is for tea as DH snuck off to shop yesterday when I was upstairs.🍒👋to everyone.

partypompoms · 11/07/2023 18:40

@CurseYouPerryThePlatypus glad you are back and I've only just returned myself after three months so we can hang out together in the naughty corner.

@Redsquirrel5 I'd love to join a craft club but can't really take the two year old. I'd also love the WI.

No idea what I'm supposed to be doing today as so out of the swing of things.

☔️ swish and swiped two loos
☀️duolingo
☔️ ironing pile cleared
☀️ had friend over for lunch
☔️ decluttered a carrier bag of clothes and toys
☀️ baked cookies

I won't be able to run the thread next month as we are away so much with no signal but I'll throw my hat in the ring for September.

BloomingHazel · 12/07/2023 06:44

Red it was 2 weeks ago, June 26th.
pompoms I'm still hopeful that I can attempt to run the thread next month, but I may not know for sure until closer to the time.
DH meets with the restoration company tomorrow so hopefully they have some answers for us (When can they start, how long will it take etc.)

Ta Das:
🧺 took dogs to groomer
🧺 went to dentist with DS, we both had appts, no cavities as usual!
🧺 took DS shopping for some clothes since he threw away most of what he had
🧺 DH met up with the textile cleaning company while we were at our appts, we have our emergency items back
🧺 put all of our clothes away (there was quite a bit)
🧺 remade our bed
🧺 LOLs x4
🧺 vacuumed main floor and the stairs
🧺 S&S both bathrooms
🧺 helped DS cook dinner

I feel like there's more, but I'm falling asleep!
🍒👋

CherryogDog · 12/07/2023 08:47

Morning 🌄 everyone 👋
Had a lazy day Saturday, went to the beach on Sunday.
All my tack etc put away with the help of DP on Monday.
Hoovered and tidied front room and downstairs hall yesterday.
Today will be spent cleaning the downstairs bath/dog/feed room and kitchen.
Several LOLs and start packing ready for my long weekend away with family. Fingers crossed that no one is ill this time so I don't need to postpone again.
I've done what I always say I'm never doing again, bought loads of presents for my granddaughters so will be lugging my extra big suitcase about and cursing myself 😅

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/07/2023 09:25

Morning all, thanks for the welcome backs 💐💝

So I did my power of three yesterday and not much else! Thankfully work hours are very flexible as I ended up having a loooong chat with colleagues which was lovely and much needed (these two are also my close friends, I am very lucky we get to work together!). Period pain/moodiness was in charge all evening though so didn’t get anything else done.

YesTaDa
🦥LOL
🦥played game with Cagletini
🦥shower/hair wash/defrost
🦥LOL in dryer
🦥went through training presentation with colleagues (we did get some work done before chatting…)
🦥looked at some furniture online
🦥helped DD1 write her CV and apply for a job!!!
🦥DLMS (only because I hid upstairs for most of the evening)

Roll on summer holidays!!! Our little trip is just three nights away nearer the coast, DH isn’t joining us as he has work/volunteer stuff. A few colleagues live nearer that end of the county too so they’re going to join us at the beach 🏖🥰

po3.1
❗️go downstairs for breakfast and find out DH’s timings for today (he’s at first aid training), and find meds
❗️order furniture I looked at yesterday assuming it’s still on offer - need to just make the decisions and stick with them and DH was no help with anything that yesterday
❗️open training slides, make changes discussed with colleagues and ensure it’s fully ready

Hope you all have a good day, I’m determined to post more than once today… 🤞

BloomingHazel · 12/07/2023 19:52

Cherry I'm sure they're worth it! Have fun visiting them 😍

We are planning on camping this weekend, we need to get away for a couple of nights. So that means running around after work tonight to make sure we have all the food & drinks we need (usually ends up being enough for an entire month!). DH already loaded up the toys (dirt bikes & four wheeler). Tonight some food will go out there, as well as clothes. The rest will be loaded up tomorrow night, and just the last few things (cold food mostly) will go out there Friday. We will head out Friday night after work.

DH is meeting with the restoration company today, so we'll see what info he gets.

CherryogDog · 13/07/2023 07:32

@BloomingHazel your trip sounds like it'll be fun!
We used to go camping but my hips complain too much these days, I'd love to get a camper van and have lots of little mini trips.
TaDa's
LOLs. Lots of LOLs 😆
Vacuumed downstairs, washed floors. Put clean dog bed down and half an hour later found grassy sick on it. They do this every single time I change their bedding 😄
Took vacuum cleaner apart and cleaned it.
To do;
Strip my bed and wash my bedding.
Lay out everything I'm taking, DP packs for me, he's expert at fitting all in!
Shower and go.

HillsBesideTheSea · 13/07/2023 09:40

Thursday is Errand day
Still swish and swipe month
Launch pad here

zone is bathroom and one other room

DomesticElf · 13/07/2023 14:24

I am almost done with washing all baby clothes.. so many babygrows. I am really starting to miss my dryer.

Hospital bag packed.

Need to do home bleugh at some point, we are hosting a lunch thingy this Saturday. I am really rusty at entertainment, hopefully it won't be a complete flop.

Cherry and Hazel I love the sound of your weekend plans. Hope you have a fab time!

DomesticElf · 13/07/2023 14:32

Hills how are you doing? 'swimming'?
