Numberone No...noone I know went, well not that I have heard of anyway.

I have just heard that a much loved elderly neighbour died yesterday morning
We used to live right next door until we moved to this house (just up the road)
He was a lovely man, so very gentle and kind, the kids loved him to bits, as he always had a hug and a treat for them.
He was 81! Was as fit as a fiddle too, until only last month, when he was diagnosed with Throat Cancer So sad, he didn't even smoke. Walked his dog at least 3 times a day. He will be very much missed, not just by us, but by the whole village. He had many friends and all the kids loved him.
He died at home apparently. His wife and daughter were by his side. I cannot imagine what they must be going through They had been married longer than I have been alive! 34 years I think it was.
Very sad

Ludaloo · 24/02/2008 09:13

IVC really pleased FLY is helping
And LOL at thanking the person who started the anti-fly thread...that's kind of ironic really!

BiancaCastafiore · 24/02/2008 09:47

lol IVC at thanksing the anti-FLY thread

Luda that is sad.

NumberOneFan hope work doesn't take up too much of your weekend x

TMH I need to go to Ikea! We need some of their cheap kids picture frames....not worth the 2 hour drive though really...

PDT Hope you get that lie-in soon, you deserve one

My period has arrived a week early with bells on
Dh has just woken up so I've given him a list of jobs to finish in dds room. I've moved some more bits and made it possible to use her exsisting notice board I've also rather enjoyed myself clearing the little Barbie house we made her last year and re-arranging all the furniture
Better get these jobs done, then we're going to go for an early lunch at a little local cafe Kids are due home at 3ish

Luda so sorry about your neighbour, at least he had a long and hopefully happy life. It is not so sad I think when they are older - DH's gran was 86 and that was a real good age.

IVC FLying works for me to - DH seems to just do the routine too.

Puppy I have a lie in on sat and DH on Sunday - he is up at 6am each morning Monday to Friday too. This way we both get to recharge our batteries - maybe you could suggest this too.

Oh and my winge is why do DH's seem to undo all the hard work I have setting boundries during the week. DS1 hit DS2 so I did timeout with him and then he did it again, but banged his nose - so DH gave him a cuddle - deep breath, am not going to dwell on it and I am going to have a good day.

I just need to pop nappies, snacks and stuff into a bag as Newcastle is an hour away

Ludaloo · 24/02/2008 09:55

Ludaloo · 24/02/2008 10:00

TMH I think he had a very happy life, he did once say so, except he would have loved a son, but there were so many complications with their daughter's birth, they couldn't conceive again. He was very fond of my DH...and my DS, maybe for that reason.
Have a good day and deep breaths re:discipline...my dh is just the same!

Ludaloo · 24/02/2008 11:11

ARGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
Just rehanging the vertical blinds from the patio doors in the living room. I HATE IT!!!!!
You have to iron each one flat again, fiddle about with little plastic hangy things, put the weights back on the bottom of each...clip back on to the door frame, and then clip each one back into the beady stringy bit at the bottom...........
Have 5 more to go (out of 25)

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

DontDreamItBeIt · 24/02/2008 11:20

Hello ALL. Had a lie-in as up through the night with DD and some sort of night terror thing..

Feel like I'm wading through treacle being very inefficient so am going to get started now:

  1. tidy kitchen and do dishwasher
  2. hang laundry
  3. tidy 2 bedrooms, hallway and living room.

Grouchyoscar · 24/02/2008 12:10

Morning all

Started this morning with a shouting match with DH. He says @I'll get up with Ed' every weekend and he never does it. He lays there asks Ed to go and play and in the intervening disruption it is easier just to get up. Then DH stays in bed . He did it again today and I flipped when he said 'I will get up at 8' and I asked what was the point as I was now awake and he told me to stay in bed. How dare he? ( x infinity) When I wake up I take Ed downstairs and dp things with him, as not to disturb DH. The same consideration would be appreciated.

Sorry for the rant I know IABU but I needed to vent.

My DONE list for today is

Down with Ed's letter and number books (his choice )
Get the birds' 'fatcake' out of the fridge
Refil the bird feeder and hang
Deadhead the primulas (the freezing weather had done for the blooms)
Peg out the washing
Have breakfast (I think DH listened )
Empty DW
Put away
Clean hob
Go through Ed's schoolbook with him (he loves the Oxford Reading Tree characters)
Wipe table
Complete Ed's reading record
Rescue the 'fatcake' and melt down (I'll put it into a bag for washing tabs this time)
Bring washing in from the rain
Bring damp washing down to dry
Start to hang out wet washing to dry inside (ho hum)
Go through phonic sounds with Ed (22/32, not bad as he told me he hadn't seen 8 and he's going to let his teacher know he's done them)

TO DO

Tidy front room
Tidy bedroom
Ironing
Get bags ready for morning
Do lunchboxes
Lay clothes out for morning.

Luda about your neighbour. I agree with TMH, it seems like he had a good life and you do remember him with great fondness.

TMH have a stress free time at IKEA (if that is possible) DH's are good at undoing DM's boundary setting aren't they (then come on like a patriarcal when they want to set their boundaries)

Right, 'Just a minute' then I'll crack on (and calm down)

Laters x

Grouchyoscar · 24/02/2008 12:14

I hope Ruby (Who I haven't seen today ) had a great evening

DontDreamItBeIt · 24/02/2008 12:42

Youare so not BU GO I have had the same argument so many times over the years, that now I don't even ask any more (or believe him for a second when hesays he will get up)

intravenouscoffee · 24/02/2008 13:26

YANBU. Women are entitled to lie ins as well. (Shame noone seems to have made that clear to men). My DH is v good and does quite often get up with DD on his days off but this did follow several months of him telling me how exhausted he was because when I got up to BF he woke up too! Did try pointing out that at least he got to stay in bed AND when she was very tiny he used to sleep in the spare room when he was on early shifts so that he got a proper break but it fell on deaf ears. Apparantly tiredness affects men in ways we can't fully appreciate . I, on the other hand, just thrive on sleeplessness and am never more cheerful than when I've been woken up by a crying baby every 4 hours for 5 months

Ludaloo · 24/02/2008 13:32

Me too We have argued over the same things for years...I have given up too.

Oh don't depress me with your long lists

GO - it's horrible when you're hoping for a lie-in and don't get one..

I'm once again about to enter the dark side...
DS2's bedroom. HOW does that boy create so much mess in so short a period of time? If he were here I'd make him help, but I can't bear looking at it any longer.

Ludaloo · 24/02/2008 14:09

Janni · 24/02/2008 14:13

Did a very quick pick-up in there, will not waste my time on it.

Now: need to change bedding on three beds and clean out the goldfish.

FunkyGoldStar · 24/02/2008 14:21

Guys, Just so you know Trinity has been struggling a bit so might be joining us in a few days. She's a bit scared by all the lists and things and is going bck to basics so lots of enouragement if she appears

RubyAndgoNumberOneFan · 24/02/2008 14:31

Hello again to all.

I'm pleased to read your post ic.

luda I'm sorry to hear about your neighbour. It's nice you can remember him with fond memories.

BC I hope you had a nice lunch with dh and that your dd likes her room. I need to do another hour or so of work. Thanks for thinking of me.

Jas You have been busy with all that window cleaning.

To everyone whose dh's don't get up to the children (even when they've said they will) you could try getting up and out of the house early (before anyone else is up) a couple of times on weekends so that your dhs have to get up to the children, make breakfast for them etc. Maybe go to the local swimming pool or cafe if they are open? Hopefully if you did it a couple of times the children and the dhs (or not so "d" in my book) would get into a routine? Giving in is causing resentment from what I read in the posts. It's not fair. I'd sit them down and tell them very clearly how you feel and why. They are telling you a lie if they know they won't do as they promise. Would they like it if you lied to them also? I think not. It probably seems quite a small thing to them but it isn't to you so they should listen and understand that and then change their behaviour accordingly. Sorry if that sounds like a rant but it is childish behaviour on their parts. I know, how about going away for a night then you wouldn't be there in the morning? luda You could come to me as you live close by! I know I'd have to get you to sign a gagging order first so you don't tell all our FLY friends what my house is like!

DontDreamItBeIt · 24/02/2008 14:33

[snmile]
Trinity is always welcome here.

If you are lurking, come and join in. I havn't posted any kind of list since before Christmas (because I wasn't really doing much, . My list is getting shorter as I'm deleting stuff I've done.) but still came for a chat and some encouragement to get something done.

Janni's method of having a three item list seems like a good one to me

FunkyGoldStar · 24/02/2008 14:36

I'm not doing lists. I cant face it. \But I have dug out my mornig, afternoon and evening routines and will be working through them.

Ludaloo · 24/02/2008 14:39

Oh, poor TR will do my best to encourage her and help.

I won't post my big long list...and TR my big long list is really just a one off....just a big spring clean really.

Ok, this is just the bits I hadn't done earlier.....

Clear Under Bed/Hoover Under Bed done (for the first time since I can remember I have it completely clear under bed...haven't actually hoovered under it yet though)
Tidy Wardrobe/Top Of Wardrobe done (again...managed to completely clear it off...now all that is on there is a basket...full of bits and bobs really!)
Tidy Drawers
Polish Top Of Drawers/Bedside Tables done
Put Washing Piles Away
Sort All My Stuff Out (makeup etc.)doing
Thorough Hoover

Haven't hoovered anywhere yet today....just waiting to get everywhere tidy first.
