We've had ours 9 years now and it's just had it. I didn't realise just how bad it was until we went on holiday recently and used the one in our accommodation which was fab but no idea what it was!

What do you all have and what would you recommend please ☺️

If you can afford it, a Miele.

If not we had a Zanussi one that lasted 12 years.

WellTidy · 15/06/2023 19:14

I’ve had a Miele for 13 years and can’t recommend it enough. Mine rarely goes a day without being used.

I have a Beko. Nothing fancy, no bells or whistles but does the job. Previously I've always had Bosch and I'd say both are pretty much the same (apart from the price)
I tend to think as long as it has a large capacity and a good spin speed you're pretty safe.

Bosch for me. I had my last one for 20 years before it died. My current one is 10 years old and going strong still.

Our Samsung died a month ago and I was actually pleased as it was truly useless but I couldn’t justify getting rid of a ‘working’ machine. It never washed properly, even when new.

We’ve bought a Miele (the most basic 9kg one that they do). So far so good. It’s cleaning on less washing powder than I had to use with the Samsung for smaller loads.

Not Bosch. The new models are rubbish. Went through 4 in 5 years (Bosch did keep replacing them to be fair). Currently got a Samsung Eco Bubble which is fine but less than 18 months old so no Idea about whether it will last.

JLbaby · 15/06/2023 19:38

Definitely Miele. Like pp said, not Bosch. I had a terrible experience with several of their machines that they had to keep replacing.

I've recently been through this pain/research as the whole district knew when my old washing machine was on a spin cycle (bearings were gone). I was shocked by the wash cycles of the Bosch and other high value machines...

It seemed the minimum cycle length was something like 180 minutes give or take some extra hours. If you put a load on at 9am, you're not going to get it out on the line until midday (assuming you're working from home) and then it ain't going to dry by the early evening in late autumn or early spring if there's a lot of rain...

I ended up buying the Indesit 91495 simply because there are cycles that are quite quick and efficient (if less 'eco')

BertieBotts · 15/06/2023 19:47

Bear in mind if you're used to an older machine, the newer ones only have longer cycles and some incredibly long cycles, which can take a bit of getting used to.

Although actually that said, my long-cycle machine must be about 8-9 years old now so maybe this isn't a distinction which needs to be made any more Grin

Anyway I'm happy with my (8/9yo) AEG washing machine, which has been brilliant all this time, and my Beko heat pump dryer. Beko seem to have a v good price:performance ratio and they aren't associated with the Whirlpool brands - Hotpoint etc. I was reassured by their safety/fire prevention stuff (which might be marketing bollocks).

I’ve got an LG direct drive one. I really like it. I can do a wash in an hour which is important to me. I didn’t want one that took all day.

We did have a Bosch, which lasted about 8yrs, but the circuit board went on it and we couldn’t get the part to fix it so a new machine it was, which seemed like a complete waste. But there you are.

We got a Miele this year to replace the 23 year old Miele we had before - never had a problem with it until it died. New one has detergent cartridges (TwinDos), but you can leave the compartment empty. I'm just coming to the end of the six months supply of free detergent that came with the machine. Was planning to use them up and go back to using powder ... but it is so convenient, I'm going to use refillable containers.
