Buying new bedlinen and minimum ironing

Isthisblocked · 09/06/2023 14:57

Any advice on buying a set of new white bedlinen for my king-size bed? I would like something that I can wash, put in the dryer and then put straight back on the bed…. Minimum ironing. Is polyester cotton mix a good option if you don’t want to do ironing? Or are some of the cottons OK to put straight back on the bed with a minimum creasing? I’d really appreciate your opinions.

I used to have polyester cotton years ago, and it could be what you are looking for. Have had cotton for years, but it's hard to find minimum iron - it's OK with single beds, but king sized just gets so creased, I find. The last duvet cover I bought was this one, and it is really quick to iron. It says it's easy care - not sure if M&S have something similar in white.

My other set is much older and softer cotton, but needs much more ironing, especially if it's on the line too long and dries completely.

Life is too short to iron bed linen. Way, way too short.

SpringIntoChaos · 09/06/2023 21:30

I've never in my life ironed bedding!

bellac11 · 09/06/2023 21:32

Why on earth would you iron bed linen

I only buy pure cotton or linen for bed linen.

GrumpyPanda · 09/06/2023 21:36

Fuck that. Not even my great-grandmothers ever ironed bedsheets - they sent them out for mangling.

OMG! Have you actually felt the difference getting into a freshly-made bed with ironed sheets -- one of life's great pleasures!

@GrumpyPanda 😂😂😂

Anything, even Egyptian cotton - just spray whatever “anti crease spray” or even plain fabric conditioner mixed with water. Spray from 20-30 cm distance and glide over with hand, it relaxes the creases. Also steam irons like HomeEasy (30£ Amazon) - glide it over made bed and done.

Well, this is it!

Love ironed bedlinen. And I do think the harder it is to iron, the nicer it is ... so has to be a compromise.

Screamingabdabz · 09/06/2023 21:51

Nope. As nice as ironed bed linen feels, it’s never gonna be as nice as the feeling of a women who is liberated from the ball ache of ironing bed linen. (Cos let’s face it - it’s only ever women going to be doing that isn’t it? 🤷🏻‍♀️)

CastleTurrets · 09/06/2023 21:54

I am a HUGE fan of the Fine Bedding Company's Night Owl Range - coverless quilts. You just wash them at the weekend and they dry really quickly too. No more faffing about ironing covers and putting them on. AND they look awesome too - got it on my bed and have bought singles for the kids beds too - they also LOVE them. So cozy.

CatsOnTheChair · 09/06/2023 21:54

Mum irons all her 100% cotton sheets.

I havepolycotton, unironed. Until I found these from JL. By some weird fluke, they appear to not need ironing. That said, the price I paid last year was about half the current price. They are sheets for summer, and they feel really cool as you get into bed. I keep the rapidly disintegrating set they were supposed to be replacing as my second winter set.

jannier · 09/06/2023 21:55

Never ironed bed linen I have Egyptian cotton fitted sheets by the time I go to bed they are fine....but I do smooth and fold them.

Lovestodrinkmilk · 09/06/2023 21:56

Go for polyester and cotton with at least 40 percent polyester. It's lighter than cotton, dries more quickly and I think it feels nicer. No ironing. And of course it's better value.

jannier · 09/06/2023 21:58

I've had my iron out once this year for a linen dress everything else goes on and creases are out by the time I need to see anyone.

My friend who worked in a bedroom furniture salesroom swears by spritzing the bedding with a spray bottle while the bed is made and then pulling the duvet out and taut but she only recommended it to me last week so I haven't had the chance to try it yet.

I've seen that on tiktok and it seems to work

Bearpawk · 09/06/2023 22:01

I can't bear the feel of polycotton. It sets my teeth on edge!
I only use linen and it's particular creased when it comes out of the dryer but they drop out very quickly

Quveas · 09/06/2023 22:01

Fixed it for you...

TheMurderousGoose · 09/06/2023 22:03

Do not go for polycotton, OP. Polycotton is depressing.

Buy yourself some 100% cotton waffle bedding. It doesn't need to be ironed.

Aquamarine1029 · 09/06/2023 22:07

I am an admitted clean freak. I'm one of those weirdos who loves to clean. My home is always tidy, always company ready, (even though we rarely ever have company), and I only use 100% cotton bed linens.

However, I have never, ever ironed my sheets and I never, ever will. That is just fucking bonkers to me. Who has time for that?? I wash them, put them in the dryer, give them a shake and a snap when just dry enough and that's it.

Cynderella · 09/06/2023 22:21

PP who pointed out that it's women who end up ironing has a good point - I know men iron, but they'll be a minority. I don't actually mind ironing. I've had a steam generator iron for years, and it makes ironing less tedious. I haven't used my tumble dryer very much at all for a year, and even before that, I would line dry as much as I could.

I have waffle tea towels. They don't need ironing, so waffle bedding could be a good call.

You've got the wrong end of the stick here ! There's nothing as nice as the feeling of a woman who values herself enough to iron her bedding - it truly is one of life's great pleasures for not that much effort

Isthisblocked · 10/06/2023 08:06

Thank you all ………And even thank you to the ones who missed the point and didn’t give advice, but felt obliged to give their opinion all the same on the pointlessness of ironing. There is a difference between answering the question asked and pontificating your views however irrelevant to the question. To those who understood the question, thank you for your time, knowledge and kindness and I’m going to go ahead with 100% cotton and the spritz and pull the duvet taut method.

I use 100% Egyptian cotton, 500 thread count and they have never needed ironing. Do you only wash your sheets in the washing machine? I only wash my sheets whenever I wash them and they never come out creased
