Laundry help!

I have to use a medication which causes me to have severe night sweats, and my pj tops are smelling fusty around the back and back of my neck
Don't want to bin them! I have tried the dettol laundry stuff which isn't doing much and I use bio laundry powder
Searched for halo sports wash and it's discontinued... any ideas?

Washing has to be dried indoors but it's hung up and well aired, it's just my pjs tops that are affected

I use a white wine vinegar spray directly on the armpits of DS’ sports clothes and use biological powder AND dettol laundry wash and that mostly, but not always, does the trick. Sometimes I sniff it and wash it again with the next load.

isthewashingdryyet · 14/05/2023 12:22

Soak them in a bowl for a couple of hours with bio powder and then a hot wash of at least 60. Then get them in the sunshine, so by an open south facing window if you really can’t dry outside.
use actual washing powder not liquid or capsules

I've got a big thing of white vinegar I use for cleaning so I could try that
Just shoved it all back in the wash on a hotter longer wash sorry planet with Ariel powder and some unstoppables

Surely you don't mean white wine vinegar....you just mean white vinegar?

Thanks. I use powder as it's cheaper and heard it was better for the machine
Can't dry outdoors or hanging in the windows unfortunately but I'll try and move the airer to get the sun a bit. I've got a heated airer so nothing is going musty from drying, it's definitely smelling straight out the wash

Basin with white vinegar in it - I just chuck in about half a bottle in a standard washing up bowl, top it up with water, then put anything with sweat fusty smelly badness in overnight. Then just wash as usual with the next load.

Fantina · 14/05/2023 12:27

Oh! Yes, just white vinegar. Another thing I noticed was that heat drying could reactivate
the bacteria so you may be better hanging them on hangars off your shower rail
with the window open to get a breeze in instead of using the heated airer.

CrotchetyQuaver · 14/05/2023 12:29

Try a hotter wash

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 14/05/2023 12:36

Oh I have some pet enzyme cleaner spray somewhere! That's worth a go
I'm hoping the hot wash works, I've put it on 50 (usually wash at 40)

Halo will work if you can find it.

The link to the company website that was posted above https://www.soapboxtrading.co.uk/ is showing in stock for me just now. It goes into a basket OK. Perhaps retry.

My local huge Sainsburys still stock it (£4.50 for a 1 litre bottle) ...although it's like gold dust, only a small quantity arrives and then disappears quickly. My husband knows to always be on the look out for it and he gets far more brownie points coming home with a Halo sports wash than a bunch of flowers!

I think it's quite a small company and they can have distribution issues.

Plan B would be to soak the offending parts with white vinegar - perhaps overnight and then throw into the hottest wash with your usual detergent (I use Fairy Non-Bio) which the material will allow. Don't go hotter than it can take though!

I buy a 5l bottle of white vinegar off amazon. It comes in handy as a fabric softener substitute and general cleaning.

Before I discovered Halo, I'd soak any smelly armpits etc with vinegar like this and it always worked. Halo just makes the whole job easier.

Re your local branch of Sainsburys saying it's discontinued. It can't be. My husband brought home a bottle yesterday. But we do use a Sainsburys Superstore. Do you have a Superstore near you? Ask them? It'll be cheaper than off the main company website link. But at least you have that link now.

Kyse23 · 14/05/2023 14:24

Material is the same as I have the same pjs in different patterns! They're 75% cotton so not sure how hot I can go with them?
Oh some are 95% cotton actually and the rest is Elastane

What temp do you normally wash in? I'd be tempted to try 60 degrees and see if that helps

DelurkingAJ · 14/05/2023 15:29

I use white malt vinegar as that’s cheap and cheerful and it’s amazing. Huge slosh in some water, leave offending items (DH’s tops) to soak then wash as normal.

motherofawhirlwind · 14/05/2023 15:31

Do you soak in the Dettol? DD's stuff needs an hour or two soak in two capfulls to a washing up bowl of warm water, and then into the washing machine with as much of the soaking water as possible and another capful in the wash drawer.

Sunshineandrainbow · 14/05/2023 15:42

Add some napisan to the wash
