Laundry help!

I have to use a medication which causes me to have severe night sweats, and my pj tops are smelling fusty around the back and back of my neck
Don't want to bin them! I have tried the dettol laundry stuff which isn't doing much and I use bio laundry powder
Searched for halo sports wash and it's discontinued... any ideas?

Washing has to be dried indoors but it's hung up and well aired, it's just my pjs tops that are affected

It just needs a long, hot wash. Bacteria is causing the smell, it won’t be killed at 30. 60 or above will kill the bacteria.

If they're white shirts, then bleach them. Good squirt of bleach in a basin of cold water, let them stew for 30 mins and then wash as normal.

Soda crystals might help, both for soaking and in the wash cycle.

MySoCalledWife · 14/05/2023 21:12

You need temp of 60C to kill bacteria

Or very strong biological detergent at 40

Napisan?

Ace for colours claims to shift smells although I've not tried it for that myself.

Came back to update they're 90% better so I will add some white vinegar next time! I have to do the vile injection tonight so I'm wearing the pjs that aren't quite perfect yet

Washed at 50, used bio and dried with windows open, my neighbour said I could use their garden to dry in so I finished them off outside as I'm not allowed to dry in my garden

You need to use NON bio washing powder. I had this problem but switched to non-bio and its fine. The smell is caused by bacteria and non-bio powder contains bleach that will kill off the bacteria. I wash everything at 40c and nothing smells at all now.

Bio powder also contains bleaches alongside the enzymes that make it biological

Hi OP, glad to hear they are better. If you have a garden can you get away with breaking the no drying rule? There was a covenant on a flat I lived in once saying the same but so many people ignored it that the management company didn’t enforce it. As direct sunlight is good for stains too!

Sadly not, it's my own garden but I have a curtain twitching neighbour who will ring the management company the second an airer appears

Which is ridiculous as I have a house on either side with gardens and they can dry clothes Confused so it's all visible anyway!
