One Year old washing machine stinks badly and leaves clothes dirty.

I have a one year old washing machine( Hisense)
It makes my washing dirty by leaving white/grey lines on it.
I use Calgon every single wash, and usually detergent capsules in the drum like Persil etc and Comfort conditioner in the drawer.
I also every few months use Dr Beckmann washing machine cleaning powder sachets to clean it however it does nothing really.
I leave the door and drawer open after I used it.
However it stinks moldy/ damp - disgusting anytime I’m near it.
Last week I decided to run 90 degrees wash to see if that worked, it worked for a day when it smelled ok and now it starts smelled badly again.
Also I cleaned the drawer thoroughly.
What to use to clean it?
I read about to use dishwasher tablets, but I have no dishwasher so I don’t want to buy a whole pack of them and it will be useless..

Is it plumbed in properly? Is there stagnant water sat in the hose maybe? It should still be under warranty so check before getting someone out to look at it as it may invalid the guarantee

BoobyDazzler · 07/05/2023 17:45

Have you drained the water out and cleaned the filter? There probably be a little hose under a flap at the bottom, try draining that and stick your fingers in the hole and there’ll be a little impeller in there which might be clogged with crap. More water will
come out than you think so train it in to a jug or something like that. Unplug it first

Use a powder routinely like Percil and use a hotter wash more often.

ThirtyEight38 · 07/05/2023 17:49

This happened with my washing machine, turned out I was over filling it. Once I put less in, it washed everything fine again.

Somethingneedstochange78 · 07/05/2023 17:53

Using liquid detergent all the time makes it smell. I had this problem I put it through the hottest wash on 90 pre wash. With just washing powder and some white vinegar to get rid of the smell. I only use liquid for jeans now and only fabric conditioner every now again. Just half a capful. But also put a capful of water in. White distilled vinegar is best to get rid of smells and limescale. Had no problem since.

You need to physically clean the drawer , the drawer hole , the seals and drain and clean the filter .

dementedpixie · 07/05/2023 17:57

I'd switch to powder as it keeps the drum cleaner as it contains bleaches that liquids and pods don't. Clean the drawer, the bit the drawer fits into (including the roof bit) and the filter.

Stratocumulus · 07/05/2023 17:57

For all the above reasons of odour I stopped all the liquid & gel type cleansers and now only use Aldi powder(s). They work well even at low temperature wash. I never ever go above 40deg.

I don’t use conditioner unless washing anything which attracts static like fleece or acrylics.
I don’t use the drawer. I simply use a measure cup & chuck that in on top of the wash.
It has made a difference.
Might be worth a try?

Somethingneedstochange78 · 07/05/2023 17:58

You can use too much making it smell. Try it on a hot wash with just white distilled vinegar. There can be residue left causing a smell.

sherbertyellowteddy · 07/05/2023 17:59

Yeah it's the trap/filter at the bottom. Needs a clean. Mine starts this if there's something blocking the water draining out properly.

Nottodayy · 07/05/2023 18:00

It was connected professionally by plumber when I bought it.
The drawer was taken out and cleaned physically inside the hole too.
I had the exact issue with my previous washer, after few months it started smelling same and kept leaving marks on washing so I got rid off .
Its probably me, ruining them somehow.
The filter has nothing on it.

Don't use washing gel liquid or pods. Just use powder. Put the powder directly into the drum. Remove the drawer after every wash, clean and allow to dry before replacing

Run a hot service wash regularly.

Frogsdinner · 07/05/2023 18:03

Try a 90oc wash with soda crystals every few weeks. And only ever use powder.

Nottodayy · 07/05/2023 18:05

I do use lots of pods / liquid detergent, I do lots of short washes daily , like 3x , maybe that’s why..

I imagine it's the detergent causing the issues
Try powder and a regular maintenence wash to keep the drum clean

It sounds like the cycles aren’t long/hot enough to break down the detergent properly and it’s leaving a residue which is building up and smelling?

Nottodayy · 07/05/2023 18:10

I’m planning to switch to powder, once I get it cleaned.
I only used the pods/ liquids as I thought it’s more gentle to eczema skin as it dissolves quicker.

@FirstFallopians i use 20mins (30degrees) cycles for quick wash. Occasionally I do 80 mins wash on 40 degrees, never any longer or hotter.

Fabric conditioner can leave a film on clothes. Try omitting it. Otherwise use just a tiny bit.

Do a hot wash on empty, no fabric conditioner, no powder, no gel, no capsules, put a little Milton or Napisan in the conditioner drawer.

dementedpixie · 07/05/2023 18:14

Probably pod residue hanging about then. Do longer hotter washes. Short ones are designed for small loads. You can adjust the dosage with powder whereas you can't with pods

BumWad · 07/05/2023 18:15

Powder is the answer

HolidaysSunnyDays · 07/05/2023 18:15

I went back to boxes of powder years ago on the advice of the chap who maintains our machines. He said in his experience, machines which use this and not gels/liquids etc last better, have fewer mishaps, need fewer repairs. Hope I'm not about to jinx myself, but our machine is 16+ years old, has always run on powder, and has had one repair in all that time.

HolidaysSunnyDays · 07/05/2023 18:17

PS he said avoid cold/economy washes as they don't put enough hot water through the machine to properly rinse out dirt and soap scum

RuthTopp · 07/05/2023 18:19

Most fabric conditioners contain animal fat. Do you think that by washing on a low temperature and a quick wash you might have pipes clogged up ?

This is where your problem originates. 20 minutes is fine once in a while for an emergency - less than 2 kg. But a pod is way too much product for this wash. Wash on longer cycle, water heats up more slowly but more economically. You should be doing your 80 minutes wash at 30/40 degrees far more frequently than your 20 minutes wash.
