As above best hoover/vacuum for big hairy dog please? We have a lot of hard floors downstairs and one carpet in front room, plus a rug and carpet on stairs and upstairs.

Currently have a Dyson handheld but have never really rated it. It doesn’t have enough suction.

If you’re short on time, here’s a summary of the vacuums Mumsnetters are recommending on this thread:

🐶 Shark Corded Upright Vacuum Cleaner with Anti Hair Wrap Technology, £199

🐱 Miele CATANDDOG-PRO Complete C3 Powerline Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner, £377

🤖 eufy RoboVac G30 Robot Vacuum Cleaner, £294

📍 Numatic HVT160 Henry Turbo Vacuum Cleaner, £159

🧹 Dyson Detect Absolute V15 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner, £600

Dyson V15 Absolute, it’s totally different to any other handheld. Also the owner of a madly shedding dog so it gets a lot of use but it’s the only vacuum we need.

BeeBB · 20/02/2023 11:45

Thanks @NotLovingWFH have seen this on TV its pricey but if it does the job. Have you had it awhile and which others do you compare it to please? Just looked it up and it only has a rating of 3.5.

I have a shark pet, wand corded. Had it 4 years, love it. Up till a couple of weeks ago,had 2 long hair dogs. Mix,hard floor, carpet, rugs. Great suction, have had 3 Dysons. Open plan bungalow now,so nowhere to store upright. Shark fits on the kitchen wall behind the door. I remove and wash filters monthly in washing up liquid, then add a little fabric conditioner, gets rid of the doggy smell.

KK2 · 20/02/2023 16:08

Shark all the way, corded!!

Toooldtoworry · 20/02/2023 16:12

Miele Cat & Dog bagged and corded. Best I've ever owned. Had the Dyson wand and it was shite.

HappyBook · 20/02/2023 16:28

My Miele Cat & Dog didn’t last long at all. I wouldn’t have another one.

Using a corded shark anti hair wrap at the moment and it’s brilliant.

NotLovingWFH · 02/03/2023 16:35

Had mine a couple of years and still going strong. It’s not got the power of my old Miele corded but it’s so easy to use in comparison that I can use it frequently so the floors ne er get too dirty. You need the one with both heads though, fluffy one for hard floor and the one for carpet/rugs.

BeeBB · 02/03/2023 22:00

No consensus.

You need one of these from the Range. I'm a cleaner and have used every hoover on the market. This thing is better than all of them.

Hoover floor, brush carpet with this, then hoover up pile of dog hair. You can use it on furniture too.

Best vacuum/hoover for a big hairy dog. We currently have Dyson handheld but not impressed.
Pandaparty · 02/03/2023 22:10

Eufy G30. Starts vacuuming daily while I'm still in bed and has finished by the time I'm back from the dog walk. Deals with fur from 2 Golden Retrievers who shed like nobody's business.

namechanged221 · 02/03/2023 22:14

Shark...

Theoldwoman · 03/03/2023 12:58

Miele cat and dog, best vacuum cleaner ever.

tempusername1234 · 03/03/2023 13:03

According to Which, the best buy is the Miele Blizzard Cat and Dog. I bought the Shark Anti Hair Wrap Lift Away though as it was £200 cheaper and I've used Shark in the past and like them.

SavBlancTonight · 03/03/2023 13:03

Yeah, I have to agree with the robot. We do have to clean the roller often as hair gets caught in there so if I also had long haired dogs (vs short hair dog and cat, both of whom shed a lot) I'd specifically focus on that when researching. But my Eufy is amazing for pet hair generally. It's got a lot of suction power and it doesn't create the maelstrom that I create when I'm using a normal vacuum cleaner so hair stays on the ground until Eufy goes over it and sucks it all up!

I have the 30C. Gamechanger.

MadisonAvenue · 03/03/2023 13:08

Shark without a doubt. I’ve got a corded anti-hair wrap with the Liftaway function and it’s brilliant, it replaced a Dyson pet one three years ago and I wouldn’t consider anything else in future.

Porridgeislife · 03/03/2023 13:08

You need two vacuums. A bagged corded one like a Miele Cat & Dog for carpets, with an turbo head, and a daily cordless one for the hard flooring. We have a Shark Stratos as we won’t give money to James Dyson.

Dreamhouseorstay · 04/03/2023 12:51

A Henry hoover - cheap, all goes in a bag so dog hair doesn’t go everywhere when you empty it. Huge storage so bag doesn’t need changing often, good suction. The only downside is it’s a faff to do the stairs with, so I’m going to get a handheld vacuum for that. Just seems to deal with everything and if there is a blockage etc it’s much easier to deal with. Bought after our dyson gave up and no regrets. Seems to smell a lot less than the dyson too. I buy scented hoover disks and keep them under the bag - stops any bad odours.

KathieFerrars · 04/03/2023 12:58

@Dreamhouseorstay Agree, Henry is awesome. My son, who is a cleaner, hoovers up some washing powder into the bag to take away the smell. Cheaper than buying something particular (as long as you have some powder available). Really works

I have a shark cordless which is fine although every so often I have the joy of unpicking hair from the main head. Copes with mud and hairy hound.

Nannyfannybanny · 05/03/2023 08:00

I do also have a Dyson DC10,hand held rechargeable, and good old rubber glove treatment around edges of rooms. I used to do that when we had stairs. Perhaps during my lifetime, people will realise, Hoover make Hoovers, they don't make any other type of vacuum cleaners.

Alfiemoon1 · 05/03/2023 13:25

Which model of eufy do people recommend is the hybrid mop one any good

ShortEar · 05/03/2023 15:25

I've got three different vacuums (four in total) at the moment 😊- none of them are perfect

Miele cat and dog - had it for years. Works great with the turbo brush head (we bought this separately and it makes a massive difference). Negatives - need to buy bags and it is corded. I use it for deep cleaning mainly (so don't want to be limited by battery life) or if both of the Dyson V6 are playing up for crevice/edge work.

Dyson V6 (originally bought two so we had one upstairs and one downstairs). Lightweight, works well when it is working, cordless. We've replaced the batteries on both with more powerful ones but the biggest negative is how frequently they have issues. Power cuts out and it can be any number of things and happens so often they have become a real pain. I use it for if I need to use it as a handheld (e.g. stairs) or for crevice/edge work on floors.

Miele HX1 - Brilliant suction, really quiet for a vacuum cleaner, battery lasts for ages, cordless, stands on floor without support. The negative with this one is the motor/battery is so heavy and I find it clunky to change the attachments partly due to this. So out of the three configurations in the picture I only use it in configuration 2 really as 1 and 3 are just too heavy for any length of time. It is so good though apart from this heaviness issue. Not sure if the newer HX2 version addresses these issues? This is my vacuum of choice BUT the difficulty around the weight and changing attachments means I don't do the crevice/edges/stairs as often as I should because this is too much of pain and/or I need to swap vacuums, which is also a pain.

Best vacuum/hoover for a big hairy dog. We currently have Dyson handheld but not impressed.
WinterMusings · 05/03/2023 15:31

I think, without opposable thumbs he's going to struggle with all of them 🤷🏻‍♀️

As much as you might not want it, a corded vacuum is always going to do a better job.

I have a Henry. Never met a mess he can't deal with!! Including my hair (long, I can sit on it & menoausal shedding!!)

(I've tried a few cordless ones for 'a quick hoover' but they're just so crap by comparison I'd rather just get Henry out!)

Biscotti7 · 15/10/2024 17:20

Try a Sebo. Amazing machine. There are videos of it online sucking powder through a rug. Our carpet is dog hair free after a session with it.

Thingamebobwotsit · 15/10/2024 17:27

We have a Dyson. It is ok for a quick hoover but doesn't suck up enough to feel like you have given a deep clean of hair and dander.

Miele bagged, not the pet one, but whatever their most powerful model is now would be what I would advise for a deep regular clean. We zoom round with the Dyson and deep hoover with the Miele once a week.

But agree with a PP. Bagged and corded are far superior to cordless for a good clean.
