Do I need a spin mop?

I have the squeegee mop thing it's so so.
I def have mental health that's much improved by slightly obsessive cleaning.

Are they all that?

This thread is a little old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for mop recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best floor mops page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

Never tried one but really like my Shark steam floor cleaner, I hate cleaning and absolutely detest floor washing and this thing works, make life easier and leaves the floor clean and shiny whereas when I mopped it there would be a haze left.

Bucket of hot water with a draining and twisty squeezing section and a good cotton mop for me. Old fashioned but it works! Cheap, cheerful and efficient.
Don’t fall for clever marketing.

Agree with this,

I bought a spinny one but broke it as I got giddy and spun too hard.

Spinny one is marketing tripe. Doesn’t get the water out effectively and you’re forever working around the spinner mechanism in the bucket. Bucket is harder to clean because of the mechanism. Mop has a weird flip up edge so you can get to straight edges, except in practice it’s shite.

Its hard to get any real welly behind your mopping - suppose depends on how mucky your floors are, this might not be an issue.

I got a silver handled replacement from Lakeland that is fabulous. Metal pole, sponge mop with chamois leather type edge to leave the floor dry.

Slimjimtobe · 19/02/2023 13:54

I think an old fashioned mop is best (with two mop heads so one in the wash each day)

RoryMcGory · 19/02/2023 14:01

I have a Vileda spin mop and it's great. I have tiled floors throughout and it is used almost daily. Love it.

Thanks is it a pita to assemble etc? I need mopping to be manageable every couple of days.

I have a Vieleda spin mop and use most days. It’s really easy and effective. Mop folds down three times if you want smaller for storage ( but you can keep long also if you like).
I have had around 4 years and nothing has broken.

I have a Vileda spin mop.. I love it , use it 4 times a week nothing broken

RoryMcGory · 19/02/2023 15:33

@pastypirate no not a PITA at all. I clean a lot due to pets making a bloody mess and I wouldn't be without it now. One of the best things I ever bought.

pastypirate · 19/02/2023 17:00

Thibk vileda spin mop is about £30? So worth it then? I have wood and lino in majority of downstairs and 2 bathrooms I want ease!

OP posts:
Caspianberg · 19/02/2023 19:12

Yes the vileda is about that. Sometimes on offer. I just take the head off and put in washing machine also with other cleaning cloths and it’s nice and clean to use again. ( I have two heads actually so can wait to wash one if needed)

silverbubbles · 19/02/2023 20:57

I use a vileda spin mop and would not use anything else now. Totally disagree that the spinny thing does not work - it absolutely does. I have large areas of stone tiles and the squeegee type mops get ripped apart/

pastypirate · 25/02/2023 20:27

Thought I'd report back - vileda turbo was £25 in dunhelm so I bought it. It's brilliant!!

It's two fold really - the microfibre mop head is just really effective cleaning the floor. The spinning wringer means the floor is only ever slightly damp so you don't have to spend ages mopping it dry.

The other reason I wanted it was the hinge bit on the head so you can lift it and do the skirting boards etc. the squeegee mop I already had won't do that it's quite annoying.

The whole rig is very very light so the least cumbersome mop and bucket it's great.

Also the water was black even though I'd already mopped this week. Vom

Yes it’s handy for mopping underneath sofas etc as head goes flat.

I did think is it a gimmick but it's actually really good!
