Clothes Airer - Yes, it’s a boring one

I need a new indoor clothes airer. Don’t need a fancy heated one as really don’t have a socket close enough to where we dry our clothes. Can’t be bothered with the tumble dryer as even though Indesit ‘fixed’ the fault, it started smoking the last time I used it.

So, I’m after a decent indoor airer. Bought an Addis one from tkmaxx and that broke after a few months of using it. So, mil bought us a replacement one from the Range and that’s broken now as it’s flimsy and won’t hold much. Any ideas or links to airers?

If you’ve got this far 🏅

This flimsy Range one bent. The rungs are flimsy too. They are like wire coat hanger thin and not attached well enough. Just a pile of pants. Excuse the pun.

After years of trapped fingers in a concertina airer (and hating that its so tall I can't reach the top) I actually put 'gatefold clothes horse' on my Christmas list. DH refused to get it because it was "weird" - even though I'd specified a really nice wooden one from Lakeland - so I'm still waiting.

I thought it would be easier to bring in with clothes on if it starts raining outside? Also, it reminds me of childhood games, building castles and forts with a sheet and my grandmas clothes horse....

Meantime, we have the hateful concertina one, but I prefer using the ceiling pulley. www.lakeland.co.uk/25214/modern-extendable-ceiling-airer

We've got 2 Minky ones that have been going strong for years. We lay a couple of old broom handles between them at the top and dry things on hangers as well. Huge capacity in total!

I've recently bought this one and I love it. It fits loads on but doesn't take up lots of space, I like the fact I can wheel it about too.

I've got this bad boy too.

Don't let the reviews put you off. It comes in a lot of very tiny bits, but it's on a par with flatpack to put up. And once it's up, it's up. You can open or close any of the sides, and I use it with an Ikea socktopus on each of the top arms.

concertina ones often have clothes too close together to dry quickly imo.
leifheit is s good brand for a wing airer.

we have a washing line in the attic (drafty and out of the way). is that sn option?

we also have a 3 tier heated airer but only switch it on if we really need clothes drying quickly.

Yes, I came on to recommend this one too. I've had it a couple of months now and it's great - sturdy and takes loads.

Curriedpeanuts · 14/02/2023 19:22

I've had a couple of Minky airers over the last 20 years. They last well!

Mmarmite · 14/02/2023 22:05

I’m considering getting this as space is an issue for me. Has anyone got one? It seems like an awful lot of money but I guess it will pay for itself eventually if I’m not using the dryer? And I’m sick of having the wing one I have taking up floor space!

We have this one - www.therange.co.uk/household/laundry/clothes-airers-and-washing-lines/indoor-airers/addis-airer-three-tier/?position=10&s=44821#44821

Bought it after using one in a holiday cottage. Fits 2 loads of washing.

We've had it a good few years now and it copes with my cats climbing all over it.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 14/02/2023 23:58

@HurryShadow that’s the one I bought from Tkmaxx. The one mil bought from the Range has now completely snapped and going to the tip.

I've got this pop up one from John Lewis

verdantverdure · 15/02/2023 06:14

Ours is the Good Housekeeping one you can extend. It is pretty sturdy.

Another one for Minky - wouldn’t get anything else again.
I have two of them - very light, easily to move even with loads of washing on, so wheels unnecessarily.
Extendable arms amazing for hanging shirts.

1 of mine is very old and I will replace soon - but had for 20+ years and do all drying on these (no tumble drying or line drying)
