Does anyone have 2 washing machines at home and, if so, why do you have 2 and do you find it useful?

Seems crazy to me. For a family of 3? Why?

Yes I have two washers. It is a game changer I can get twice as much done in the time. Only have one tumble dryer and hardly use it. Drying is not an issue for me as it goes out in the good weather and round the log burner in the winter. I put it round immediately after they’ve gone to school and it dry before they get home.

I have a shed machine and a house machine. Absolutely fantastic when my fancy house one broke down when I had three in cloth nappies.

If I had room I'd have two. One for us and one for my very hairy dog!

Thanks!

I'm just curious because we're doing up a new utility/laundry room and the question has come up of whether we should install a second washing machine. Both my DH and our builder think this would be very useful - which is interesting given that neither of them does any laundry by admission - but I can't see the advantage. Even if one could run two machines simultaneously, there's only so much I could tumble dry/hang at once. Am I missing something? We are a family of 3. No pets and I do all the washing...

They realise that more washing machines means more piles of clean washing to put away 🤣

relatives had when they were caring for an elderly relative in their house.
end of life care produces a lot of laundry.

I can imagine in certain situation (large family, caring for ill/disabled person, running a b&b) having a second washer would be a great addition.

greenacrylicpaint · 27/01/2023 06:31

oh yes and if you have lots of pets for outside pets gear (horse blankets etc.)

ittakes2 · 27/01/2023 06:47

I do and I find it invaluable. In one I mostly do linen on long washes, trainers, smalls etc and the other I do clothes but I often do these on very short cycles. My son has a lot of muddy sports kit. I hang up the clothes to dry in a conservatory so only have one dryer for the linen.

Paddingtonsmarmlade · 27/01/2023 06:53

Id only have 2 if I had an outside lifestyle with load of animals and or someone who worked in farming/fishing. Ie a dirty washing machine and a nice one.

my dream is to have 2 dishwashers if I had the space for that then I'd do it.

Blimey, how much washing does a family of three do, surely no more than one load a day

WonderingWanda · 27/01/2023 07:04

I don't think you need two. We are a family of 4 and do lots of running/cycling/ football etc so lots of washing but one machine manages it all no problem.

BMrs · 27/01/2023 07:04

Yes! I had two washer/tumble combo machines out in our new utility 1.5 years ago. I love it and 90% of the time they're both going at the same time.

I have a young family so have set times to do chores and I find this means I can quickly get all my washing done rather than spreading it over the full day.

I would recommend

MotherOfCrocodiles · 27/01/2023 07:40

If anything get a second tumble dryer

I am considering it as we have an eco one that takes 5 hours and lots of kids

User1794329709 · 27/01/2023 07:47

Those eco dryers are a bit of a waste of space because they take so long, I would rather pay a bit more and use my old vented dryer which I will replace with another vented dryer quite soon while I can still get one

HufflepuffRavenclaw · 27/01/2023 07:55

LArger capacity single machine. And wash less.

Madcats · 27/01/2023 07:58

Unless you are all horseriding rugby players, I am not sure why you would need 2 washing machines.

When we were fitting out a new build utility room, we decided to have an extra freezer BUT added plumbing to enable us to shift the washing machine or add another sink in that void.

IncessantNameChanger · 27/01/2023 07:59

We are a family of 6 so I have thought about it. Maybe if I had a really unusually large utility room. But I agree with the drying. I can do loads a day of 10kg or if needed I could4 loads on a quick wash. My laundry gets done on one load a day. It takes a long time to sort of four loads to dry and put away

stairgates · 27/01/2023 08:44

I would agree it would be handy to have a pet one and a people one but we've managed fine with a large drum one with a household of 10+.
