Anyone else rocking the housework?

My housekeeping was always somewhat chaotic, and since these were launched, my house is far more functional and a podcast away from actually looking rather orderly, even at short notice.

I tend to pick what I need each day rather than following the tradtitonal TOMM, but do refer back to that to help get some jobs done if they're in danger of being neglected.

I think my most used tracks are the "Calm Laundry Put Away" the "Bitesize Bathroom Blitz" and the "Quick Kitchen Turnaround"

Well done Drop!

I've been Disco Decluttering as stuff has gradually built up in the wrong places.

I don't know why but I'm in a reactive fire-fighting phase and struggling to get into the routine at the moment.

I am chipping away at it at the moment though.

I have been trying to keep up with level ones, not perfectly but a longer streak than I’ve previously managed and it is making a difference. I did the 45 minute open plan clean on Friday and it was pretty good. I have a living room/diner and the kitchen is on the small side so it worked pretty well. More tidying than actual cleaning but it looks good.

BogRollBOGOF · 17/06/2024 10:51

I like today's new Dirty Thirty. Another good keeping on top/ chipping away session. Civilisation is returning.
It's helped that I shifted a couple of dishwasher loads yesterday and had it ready to go already so could whip round the rest of the session without being blocked by dishes.

I'm in danger of falling into the trap of thinking "It still all looks nice and clean so I don't need to bother doing anything today" and then before you know it it's a pigsty again because you haven't kept on top of it 😬Need to pull my socks up and do a level 1 today, plus maybe the new dirty thirty to get things going.

You're not alone, it's the story of my life Grin

Today's steps drop looks good. I must try it on Friday when I have a rest day from my running plan.

I've been my future friend. Dishwasher loaded and timer ready so the cycle is complete at breakfast time. I love the long days and length of solar energy input.
Somehow that's reminded me that there's stuff on the washing line being darked on. It's only my open water swimming gear, so it'll be used for getting laked, so no harm done!

Didn’t manage the dirty thirty but did bash out a quick level 1 and some extra time on the laundry. In the office today so not much time during the day but should get something done this evening.

You’ve reminded me about the open water swimming lake in a huge park near me which I say I’m going to try every summer and never do! I think the only time I could do it would be Sunday morning though and that’s the one day I don’t have to get up at 7 so I’m rather reluctant….

BogRollBOGOF · 20/06/2024 22:00

Dusted off the good old Dreamy Kitchen which turned the kitchen round nicely.
Some of the sessions feel like cosy security blankets after 2 years of frequent use!

I segued into one of the dinner prep sessions which helped keep me on track. I made good use of the new(ish) airfryer so did the sauté and slow cook in one. Pan usage seems to have calmed in the last month since I bought it. It's good for my scatty last minute "what shall we eat tonight" crises 😂

@BogRollBOGOF you seem to be doing really well! I know exactly what you mean about the security blanket feel. I think it has also set up an association for me that as soon as I hear Gemma’s voice on TOMM, I go into cleaning mode. For example, I quite often really don’t feel like doing the post-dinner clean after a full day of work but as soon as I switch on the calm kitchen clean or similar, it is so much easier and I kind of just flow onto it. It is a real life-saver and brill for motivation!!

Amore2 · 25/06/2024 18:49

Calm upstairs clean today and it was actually quite a nice thing to complete! Just taking my time a bit but knowing the house would be better.

i also listened to the ‘get ready for the day’ one too as I was really lacking in motivation this morning.

BogRollBOGOF · 06/07/2024 20:10

Had visitors today and the scurryfunge and a couple of loops of the 10 min declutter at a couple of hotspots got the house back in order.

SydneyCarton · 07/07/2024 13:33

I was planning on doing some RTH on Saturday but was struck down by hay fever and spent the day sneezing and getting through dozens of tissues while mainlining antihistamines. Feeling better today and will get some bits done; must put out the washing before the next rainstorm 😬.

BogRollBOGOF · 07/07/2024 23:32

At least it gives structure for catching up when life got in the way.

2+ years in and it's still surprising me how much easier it makes life. I can now despair at some awful stuck clutter in a hotspot, and a 15min clean later, it was all dealt with.

I need to get my laundry sessions on this week.

OP posts:
BogRollBOGOF · 09/07/2024 17:16

I've been at some of the oldest and newest cleans today.
I finally tried out the newish 10 min kitchen clean as it just needed a refresh; it's been needing 20 min dreamy kitchen cleans since that one dropped.

And then went on to the original L1 clean which ticked a few boxes. Haven't used that in ages and I'd forgotten how productive it is.

I'm in a laundry rut. There's plenty of clean clothes, but they're distributed around various IKEA bags ( I've got a shoulder injury so folding clothes has not been appealing in the last couple of weeks!) Within that 15 mins, I shifted 2 bags as well as the vacuuming and downstairs toilet. I need to get in the habit of using it more often again to keep on top things.

Well done, everyone for keeping going, even if only a little bit as physical health and mental health definitely are much more important than housework. But it is good to do a few minutes when you can as otherwise, it just builds up too much. Getting others who live in the house to help and pull their weight is key.

Anyway, I have done:

L1 most days this week. Keeps things from getting out of control.
A getting ready for guests quick clean upstairs as we have people staying this weekend.

Also trying to declutter but it is not going well as I am not in the right headspace for it right now. Going to try the spring clean declutter challenge though soon.

Take Care, all. Tread lightly!

Remindmeofababe · 16/07/2024 06:13

I did it! Finally joined RTH via patreon. Haven't got thr app yet. I did downstairs loo and a bathroom one. Really enjoyed them (never thought I would saybthat!) . Now to keep going. Liked how focused it was and how I didn't have to think. I have had a burst of motivation as have a new cordless hoover
. The kids are now helping with housework albeit only the hoovering!

They are great. Gemma takes the mental effort out of working out what to do so you can autopilot and listen to her.

They're great for focus anyway, but especially with the holidays coming when you can get headphones on and not get distracted by the childrens' noise.

I'm looking forwards to the 30 min weekend drop. I do let things slide over the weekend.

I've been using the kitchen 10 mins a lot in the past week. And if I'm in catch-up mode, I can do round one with the dishwasher, and repeat it later. I still love the 20 min dreamy kitchen for a good clean-up but it can stall if there's too much washing-up.

Looking forwards to doing today's Lazy House Reset. It looks like it ticks all the boxes I need!

My vacuum head broke yesterday. Must order a new one. Sigh.

Kept up with L1s this week plus a one hour upstairs declutterring session when I managed to declutter (most of) DD’s room! Think it might need another 30 minutes.
Also did the kitchen lite clean. Am enjoying those as it is too hot to do much more here and I also want to enjoy summer and some downtime. What have you been up to?
@BogRollBOGOF is it beyond repair? If it’s Dyson, I think they repair parts? We also have a repair shop in our town now which I have yet to try.

BogRollBOGOF · 01/08/2024 20:43

I've got a new head on order. I can think of more fun things that I would rather have bought!

Going to do the Lazy House Reset today! Just need to get motivation to start 🙈 been on school holidays since beginning of July and I'm shattered 🙈

BrutusMcDogface · 04/08/2024 12:10

Hi all! I’ve had the tomm app for (cough) years now, and have only done it in short bursts and haven’t ever really made it a habit. My house is in need of a lot of work!

any recommendations for the first thing to do, to get me going?

PumpkinSpicedTea · 04/08/2024 14:49

@BrutusMcDogface I'm probably not the best one to comment haha but look at the motivation guided cleans to get you started. I find going through them rather than worrying about a to do list each day has helped me.

BrutusMcDogface · 04/08/2024 15:07

@PumpkinSpicedTea Thank you!

I’ve gone and signed up for the rock the housework guided cleans. Let’s see if they revolutionise my life!

BogRollBOGOF · 04/08/2024 15:09

I tend to go for the multi room cleans to make a difference all over.

I've been bogged down by inertia for ages. I've kept up with the basics to keep functional but can't seem to crack the clutter at the ages.
Today I've gone a bit off-piste and set an interval timer to 2mins work and 30s rest and gone through each room putting a few things away which has helped with shifting some of the stubborn stuff. I can otherwise just end up looking at a mess and feeling blank- it's about the only time my brain shuts up 😂

Somehow at some point I need to evict a teenager from his darkened lair and tidy the devestation zone. At the end of term, everything from the school bags got dumped in there so there's piles of stuff to sort through.

There's lots of different guided cleans to suit different situations. I've quite liked doing the "lite" sessions as only 15 mins when you've got kids at home!
