I need a new feather duvet

I'm looking to buy a new feather duvet.

I would appreciate your recommendations. Thanks

Hi! So this is not a high end recommendation if that's what you're after but I bought this one from Dunelm in double for my daughter and we're currently using it as a snuggle duvet on the sofa (daughter is grown up and has her bedroom here but doesn't live here) and it is so lovely I have ordered it in super king for our bed. It's 90% feather and 10% down. It's weighty enough for us, holds its shape and isn't stinky (which I find some feather/down duvets to be). My daughter always said how fab it was but I never paid much attention to it to be honest until we hoiked it downstairs and used it ourselves!

I have feather and down - all seasons- 2 duvets that attach for colder nights and can be used on their own when it’s warmer. Useful and versatile.

Hi, I've just bought a Snuggledown duvet and really like it.

I've bought their Hungarian goosedown duvet and it's great. It was on the back of sleeping under one of their duck down and feather duvets on a holiday which I also loved.

HairyKnobsAndBroomsticks · 19/10/2022 20:15

Thank you @SilentBob that looks good, I'm not bothered by high end!

I've looked at a few online this afternoon and they do seem to vary in price depending on the shop.

I've had a feather duvet for years, I can't remember where I bought it now. It came to a sad end last year when I came home to find my puppy surrounded by a mountain of feathers and a chewed up duvet.

The Duvet Company. I have a pure down duvet that is fabulous, and I bought one for my son and daughter-in-law as a wedding present. Great quality, fast delivery and about as luxury as you can get. But not cheap!

HairyKnobsAndBroomsticks · 19/10/2022 20:17

Also, can someone please explain what the difference is between 100% feather and a mix of feather and down.

OP posts:
BadGranny · 19/10/2022 20:21

Down is warmer and lighter than feathers, so a mixed feather and down duvet is lighter and warmer than an all-feather one.

Down is warmer and lighter than feathers, so a mixed feather and down duvet is lighter and warmer than an all-feather one.

Thanks for explaining that. I quite like a heavy duvet so maybe I need 100% feather. So much choice.

I have a duck down duvet from white company and it's plump and so warm. Went for this over feathers to avoid the sharp bits poking through and also that 'crunchy' sound you can sometimes get from feather duvets. Cost a bit more but so worth it!

Nissalabella · 19/10/2022 20:37

I’ve had really good luck with Argos for feather duvets, they are great quality, don’t have that strong feather duvet smell and are very reasonably priced. I bought one for our double bed about 10 years ago which is still going strong in the guest room and we currently have a super king which is about 5 years old and looks brand new, I highly recommend them. (They’re also on the heavier side if that’s what you’re looking for)

Am I weird to quite like that crunchy sound 😁

We all have various generations of IKEA feather and down mix duvets. They are superb value for the quality and take us from spring to autumn.

However, I also have a pure Hungarian goose down duvet for winter from John Lewis (which cost me £200 about ten years ago so it would be £££ now) and it is the lightest but warmest thing of loveliness that I have ever owned.
I also have wool duvets from Baavet and these are fabulous too.

Perpop · 19/10/2022 20:43

These are so painfully cruel and unnecessary. Consider a ‘feels like Down’ same warmth without the cruelty.

DotBall · 19/10/2022 20:45

Anything artificial makes me sweat like mad. All my duvets are natural fibres and substances. I do feel very guilty though as I know that producing feather and down is not without cruelty 😕

Lulu1919 · 19/10/2022 20:45

My crunchy feather duvet is an IKEA one

I hadn't considered that.

@Lulu1919 do you like the crunch too?

If you eat duck, there’s no difference. They don’t pluck live birds, it’s a by-product of the meat industry just as leather is.

Rachaelrachael · 19/10/2022 20:53

@HairyKnobsAndBroomsticks Oh really? It used to drive me crazy when DH was moving around and crunching the duvet 😂

We have this one and it’s lovely. Puffy, cosy and crunchy 😊 it’s an all-seasons so comes as 2 duvets that can be put together to make one heavy duvet 👍🏻

Rachaelrachael · 19/10/2022 20:56

Re cruelty, my understanding is that if you buy ethically sourced duvets, its a byproduct of the meat industry and the birds aren't live plucked?
Please someone correct me if I've got that wrong!

I have Homescapes mixed feather and down duvets from Amazon. They're lovely. And cheap. (I used to have ikea ones and they're better than Ikea).

HairyHandedSonOfTroll · 19/10/2022 21:06

I like my 4 tog pure goose down duvet as it's light and I'm menopausal - but if you're after heavier, then feather is better. I did a lot of Googling before I bought mine, as I wanted no rustling - just cloud-like lightness. Not that this helps you, as I can't remember where I bought it!

HairyHandedSonOfTroll · 19/10/2022 21:07

Actually, I think it might have been the Duvet Company, as PP mentioned...
