I have to safety pin the top corners.

BadGranny · 02/09/2022 13:03

I hold the button end of the cover with that edge of the duvet, and shake it over the bannisters of the stairs.

Mindymomo · 02/09/2022 13:04

I used to use clothes pegs, I now use safety pins and do mainly change sheets when my DH is around as it’s so much easier with 2 people. I have suggested single duvets, but DH doesn’t want them, but I’m sure I would change sets more often if I had single ones.

That's an option! I honestly feel like I've done a workout..

Slowly!

Hugasauras · 02/09/2022 13:10

We have a coverless duvet instead Grin

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/09/2022 13:11

We have two singles .

Londono · 02/09/2022 13:12

It is a NIGHTMARE and my most hated job. I use pegs now too or get some assistance from whichever teenager is closest.

sleepymum50 · 02/09/2022 13:13

Use two single duvets instead. I’ve seen this a lot overseas.

I did this while still married and going through the menopause. It meant I could have the thinnest thin duvet and my husband kept his 10.5 tog. Also no more duvet hogging.

When made up the bed looks just as nice.

RewildingAmbridge · 02/09/2022 13:14

I make 6'4 DH do it

OnceTwiceThreeTimesAMummy · 02/09/2022 13:19

There is a rolling trick which I found somewhere on YouTube it makes it incredibly easy , ill see if I can find it ....

Found it

crispinglovershighkick · 02/09/2022 13:59

Is it in the right way round? Took me ages - years - to realise I'd been putting it in sideways. The channel stitching (on our duvet anyway) runs side to side and I assumed it ran from top to bottom. It was the most satisfying moment to see it finally in the cover correctly!
I start with hands in the outside top corners, match with duvet top corners, hold it hard by the outside cover corners with duvet corners tucked in, then shake it down until you can shove the rest in, button it and finish by grabbing bottom corners (cover + duvet) and flicking it hard a few times until it's distributed.
It does help to have another set of hands, if dh and I do it together it takes a minute, if I do it myself it takes quite a bit longer.

İ Swapped to two single duvets on my superking bed, makes laundry and sleep better.

Doiky · 02/09/2022 14:11

I'm 5"4 and used to do housekeeping, your only options are to have someone help you or do the inside out trick and shake as much as you can while stood on the bed/over a bannister, lay it flat and then shake from both sides until it sorts itself out and goes flat. Then lie on the floor and cry until you can regain feeling in your arms again Smile

Worldgonecrazy · 02/09/2022 14:22

I’m 5’ 4”.

  1. Lay duvet flat on bed, remember for superking the longest edge goes across the bed.
  2. Turn duvet cover inside out and grab top corners from the inside (which is the outside of the duvet cover as it’s inside out).
  3. Still holding the corners, grab each corner of the duvet at the foot of the bed.
  4. Pull slightly towards you to expose the two pinched duvet corners.
  5. Transfer both corners to your least dominant hand.
  6. Pull the duvet cover as far as you can down the nearest short edge of the duvet.
  7. Allow the duvet and cover to fall on the bed. Friction will hold the corners in place.
  8. pull the duvet cover down on both sides, matching the edges of the duvet with the cover.
  9. The duvet will end up the wrong way around on the bed, so flip it over.
  10. Fasten the bottom edge and give a good shake holding the duvet corners in place.

That probably sounds complicated but it’s really not and I can manage to do it in a couple of minutes. I’ve tried the rolling method which works well on thinner duvets but not so good on thicker ones.

Science is your friend, trust friction to do its job.

Gemswaitingfoottap · 02/09/2022 14:24

I make the entire bed but get Dh to help putting the duvet cover back on. I have and can do it myself but if you have helpers it is much easier. The children will also help if I want it put back on earlier than Dh coming home from work.

greenacrylicpaint · 02/09/2022 14:27

I don't.
we have a single duvet each.
much easier to change.
and no drafty tunnel between people and no duvet hogging.

perimenofertility · 02/09/2022 14:43

Also have two separate duvets on our king size now because I prefer a much lighter tog. But before that, I unpicked the stitching of two sides of the duvet covers and sewed buttons back on, so it opened on three sides like a folder.

ScampiFlies · 02/09/2022 14:47

Inside out and grab the corners, big shake, think how glad I am that I'm relatively tall and then many, many trips around the bed to flatten.
I'm a housekeeper and it's the sweatiest part of my job.

twordle · 02/09/2022 15:53

I'm 5ft 4 & duvet is heavy - physically haven't got the arm span or strength to do the inside out flip I would normally do with other duvets! The 2 single duvet thing - how do you make the bed so it looks nice?!

Update: just got into said PIA super king bed with fresh bedding & it's all soft & fluffy & smells fresh & gorgeous...& it's almost worth all that bother earlier! Night fellow superkingers x

I FUCKING HATE CHANGING THE MOTHER FUCKING GOD DAMN BED 🤬😡🤬🥵😳😡🤬🤯

Honestly, the despair and frustration it gives me is another level 🤣😂

MrsDeltaB · 02/09/2022 23:38

When I strip the bed...once in a while! I then button up the cover inside out so that anything else in the machine like the sheet or pillow cases don't get stuck in it!

My intended plan is to then fold the (tumble dried) cover in the utility room so as not to stress myself that the "outside" as in-body touching bit- might scuff the floor. It then stays inside out until I insert my arms and flail around grabbing the top of the duvet, work it down from inside to outside and then shake the merry hell out of it.

If only the other sleepers in my house knew what it took!

It's like the Rubik's cube - it's all about finding the corners first. Once the duvet corners are in place, everything will follow.
