Easiest canapés that can be eaten cold?

Brawoe1 · 27/04/2022 17:31

Only hosting 8 or so, so I don’t want loads but what canapés are the easiest and nicest to make? I have never done them before so not sure what to do? I have seen some are made from slicing up French stick?? I have seen I can buy bilinis… but don’t know what to put on top? Will be pushed for time so needs to be able to put it all together and put in fridge?

Just to reiterate, I don’t want to be making the base, I want to buy it but don’t know where to start.

Blinis aren't that nice when they've been in fridge. I would buy some smoked salmon pate and dollop a little on a little gem lettuce leaf and decorated with chives, loads of colourful crudités like red chicory and purple carrots with dip in centre, buy pizza base, spread with Pesto and cheese and roll into a log then slice and bake little spiral shapes, good quality cocktail sausages cooked in honey and wholegrain mustard, you can buy small crostini and spread them with soft goat's cheese then drizzle them with honey and fresh thyme leaves, watermelon and feta skewers with mint leaves wrapped around the feta, I'm sure I've got loads more, let me have a think and I hope your gathering goes well!

Cheese and pineapple 😂 plus all the lovely suggestions above!

Brawoe1 · 27/04/2022 17:57

@1ittlegreen wow! That sounds a lot classier than I am! Also sounds a little complicated! Good to know bilinis aren’t great out of the fridge. What is ok out of the fridge? Are vol au vents far too retro?!

Vol-au-vents are bloody lovely! I would buy some sandwich fillers and pop them.in the vol-au-vent cases then decorate with a bit of greenery.

You also can't go wrong with a few cubes of melon and some slices of Parma ham or even just buy some nice cheese and make a cheese board with some crackers and chutney?

nearlyspringyay · 27/04/2022 18:02

Mozzarella pear, cherry Tom and a basil leaf
Water melon and feta
Cocktail sausages
Mini sausage rolls
Cheese and pineapple
Cantaloupe and Parma ham
Grisini wrapped in Parma ham

PaddleBoardingMomma · 27/04/2022 18:08

Miniature crostini with mozzarella and tomato, Parma ham, smoked salmon etc all comes out the fridge really well.

I wonder would a charcuterie board be better? Olives, breadsticks, various cured meats, etc just whack it all on a big sharing board? That's what I usually do and it's always well received !

Alwayspaintyournails · 27/04/2022 18:11

Cocktail sausages from the butcher cook half in honey and sprinkled with poppy seeds and wrap the other half with streaky bacon as pigs in blankets are for all seasons. Can be served at room temperature.

Chilli jumbo prawns on sticks.

DeedlessIndeed · 27/04/2022 18:16

My go to are:

Little squares of rye bread, seasoned cream cheese, dill and smoked salmon.

Crostini with a smidge of olive tapenade, sundried tomato and goats cheese

And the major crowd pleaser - Sausage and garam masala pinwheels

  • Buy ready rolled puff pastry

  • Mix a finely diced onion, tomato puree, sausagemeat, garlic and garam masala

  • Spread mixture

  • Roll, slice and egg wash

Pesto and parmesan pinwheels also go down well.

Those cornichon gherkins (mini cocktail ones) wrapped in a piece of nice salami. Someone posh I know does these and they are lush and look good - and all get eaten!

Fizzbo · 27/04/2022 18:17

Gouda & salami on sticks, Brie & grapes in sticks, cube of feta on a stick with a cherry tomato & a basil leaf.
Sheet of ready rolled puff pastry, spread with green pesto & grated cheese, rolled up and sliced into thin spirals & baked in the oven.
Pack of frozen mini spring rolls and/or mini samosas from Sainsburys.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 27/04/2022 18:22

Very few people will turn down a Ritz cracker spread with something lovely..!

I wholeheartedly endorse the following:

Salmon Philadelphia with a sprig of dill

Soft goats cheese with a wee blob of onion chutney

Spreadable strong cheddar stuff with a halved grape on top

Pâté with a halved cocktail gherkin

duvetdayforeveryone · 27/04/2022 18:33

Charcuterie board!

Starlitexpress · 27/04/2022 18:44

You can buy little croustade cases and then fill them yourself, eg salmon mousse or cream cheese with caviar on (you can buy a cheap jar for under a fiver)

One small note, NOTHING tastes good right out of the fridge, so don't leave everything in there until the last minute!

Brawoe1 · 27/04/2022 18:47

Thanks everyone. Yes I’m doing cheese and crackers, olives etc.

@LadyMonicaBaddingham what would I be putting the Philadelphia on? As that’s the simple thing I’m after or are you not putting it on something?

On the Ritz crackers!

MintyMoocow · 27/04/2022 18:50

Pringles.

Goodbyecustardtart · 27/04/2022 18:57

Asparagus wrapped in Parma ham, coronation chicken vol au vents, cheese straws, curry puffs

SpindleInTheWind · 27/04/2022 19:05

I have spent three years looking for frozen vol au vent pastry cases.

Well, I've done other things obviously, but you know what I mean.

Favouritefruits · 27/04/2022 19:07

slice of honeydew melon with a slice of Prosciutto wrapped around it with a cocktail stick stuck through it to keep it all together

Favouritefruits · 27/04/2022 19:08

Cocktail stick cube of watermelon, cube of feta cheese followed by a cube of cucumber sprinkled with mint.

Brawoe1 · 27/04/2022 19:14

@SpindleInTheWind I know!!

ok thanks about the fridge pointer.

so fillings for some kind of little pastry things… what tastes best?! Can do Philadelphia, I don’t eat meat or fish so I don’t know what else tastes good? Salmon mouse you say…. @Starlitexpress any idea where I can buy those? Just doing online shop and nothing comes up.

yes of course there will be Pringles 😂

My
Pic didn't post.

Look up croustades.

Kat1953 · 27/04/2022 19:46

Cantaloupe and Parma ham

I could eat this every day. Can I come to your party too please?

Anyway. As a grown adult I'm still absurdly happy when cocktail sausages and mini sausage rolls are on offer :)
