20 year old iron but i only use it once or twice a month . i regularly blow up fridges by defrosting too vigorously.

8 years is long for a washing machine.

LIZS · 08/01/2008 16:59

WM 17 years !

Anna8888 · 08/01/2008 17:01

My vacuum cleaner is 14 years old.

I recently dumped my 15 year old food processor (still worked, but wanted a new one).

Niecie · 08/01/2008 17:03

13 years for our tumbledryer - we have just had to replace it as it filled the utility room with smoke.

washing machine was 12 years. Not completely dead when we replaced it but it kept breaking down and didn't work very well.

MaryAnnSingleton · 08/01/2008 17:04

MIL has a tumble dryer which she reckons is about 30 yrs old and still working

hifi · 08/01/2008 17:11

mum has a mixer that is 37 years old, she asked if i want it when she pops her clogs!

food processor and freezer both wedding presents - so 14.5 years old!

TellusMater · 08/01/2008 17:14

My freezer was bought by my stepdad in 1980 - in South Africa. So not only is it old, it is well-travelled .

TellusMater · 08/01/2008 17:16

Is 8 years really a long time for a washing machine? We bought ours secondhand in 1993, and it finally gave up the ghost in 2006. And it didn't die of old age either. It was killed by swarf from pipe repair and our local water company had to compensate us .

cazboldy · 08/01/2008 17:19

my fridge is 11

Jackstini · 08/01/2008 17:20

22 year old tumble dryer in the family - was my Mum's, my sister's, mine and now my MIL's

sweetkitty · 08/01/2008 17:23

We bought a second hand fridge when I moved into a flat with my first job, it was still going strong 10 years later.

I have just thrown out the portable TV I got for my 12th birthday (so 20 years old )

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 08/01/2008 17:27

My cooker dates from before 1950. Top that!

(OK, OK, 'tis solid fuel aga so will probably still be running in another 50 years. Makes you realise that they're worth the money though, eh?)!!

TellusMater · 08/01/2008 17:29

Ah yes. PIL have an ancient wood-fired Raeburn.

TellusMater · 08/01/2008 17:30

Rayburn

The cooker, not the agony aunt...

MaryAnnSingleton · 08/01/2008 17:31

in our old house we inherited a gas cooker that was probably about 40 yrs old when we left 2 yrs ago - the gas men who checked it every year always marvelled at the good condition it was in !

JulesJules · 08/01/2008 17:33

My washing machine is about 8 years old and I hope it keeps going for a long time yet as it was v expensive - it's a Miele. I think the oldest pieces of equipment I have are a Kenwood mixer and a Moulinex liquidiser, both about 30 years old!

MaryAnnSingleton · 08/01/2008 17:36

Miele are meant to be v good !

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 08/01/2008 17:40

I have a fridge/freezer in the cellar that was my mothers - it must be 20 years old at least.

My iron is about 10 years old - my friends think that's astonishing.

Most of our appliances were bought new when we moved into this house, as we left our old ones in our previous home as part of the deal. So they must be coming up on 8 years old by now, apart from our fridge/freezer which must be at least 12 years.
The only thing that we changed was our dishwasher, but our previous one went to one of our friends as my OH produces his own dishwashers so i got the first one to test. He now has his own brand of washing machine and tumble dryer, so wont be long before i'll need to find happy homes for the ones i have just now.

Lilymaid · 08/01/2008 17:50

Fridge freezer 24 years (wedding present); tumble drier nearly 21 years (bought when DS1 was born); Moulinex coffee grinder 30 years - but plastic top is cracked; vacuum cleaner nearly 20 years.

Sidge · 08/01/2008 17:54

Bosch washing machine is 8 yrs old but has never gone wrong or needed a repair.

Creda fridge just starting to go wrong (gets too cold) after 12 years.

Toshiba TV still fine, great picture and no repairs after 12 years.

Dishwasher fine after 7.5 years (cheapo Indesit one).

Panasonic hoover was fine after 11 years - Freecycled it when I got a lighter one.
