Sony T.V., was top of range when bought by DH (before my time) is still going strong at 17 years old. It's coping well with the extra work the Wii is giving it.

Also have a Panasonic Microwave combination thing that is about 14. I'm dreading the day that dies.

I've also got a Henry vac that I bought about 20 years ago. Although don't use it daily as I use a dyson for the carpeted rooms.

Whoever said they have a Miele washer, apparently they are built to have a 20 year working life (which is why they are soooo expensive)

MaureenMLove · 08/01/2008 18:10

My washing machine just died after 11 years. It had a few faults along the way, but DH was able to repair them. This time it was terminal!

My fridge was a wedding present too, which makes it 17 years old. It really is quite tatty now and although it works fine, it gonna look rotten in my spangly new kitchen!

DaisyMoo · 08/01/2008 18:19

I have a Kenwood Chef from the 1960s which still works brilliantly and a tumble drier which was my Grandma's - I think it's about 17 years old. The door broke about 8 years ago but it's still fine if you wedge something in it

Wisteria · 08/01/2008 18:22

My Mums Henry has outlived her (think about 20 years now and still going strong)

My first ever washing machine (Hotpoint) is now 16 years old and still being used by my xh - I on the other hand have had 2 in the last 8 years!

I have a Magimix from the very early 60s that was my first MIL's wedding present.......

edam · 08/01/2008 18:24

MIL has a fridge that is at least 40 years old and still doing the job. Looks 1950s style so may be much even more ancient.

On the other hand, I've been through three Dyson hoovers in the last ten years. I didn't keep buying them, one was a wedding present and the next two were second hand from rellies. Now I know why they were chucking the darn things out!

RustyBear · 08/01/2008 18:31

My MIL bought us a Zanussi washing machine & tumble dryer when we bought our first flat in 1981. We replaced the washing machine in 2003 and the tumble dryer in 2005, so they lasted us 22 and 24 years.

The tumble dryer is actually still going at my brother's house - I just got fed up with the door trim falling off and the fact that you have to turn the drum by hand to get it started - these minor points don't seem to bother my brother

sunnylabsmum · 10/01/2008 07:00

I've got a house full of old appliances. AEG washing machine is 10 yrs old and no problmes ever. My mum had an AEG washer which she gave away when it got to 18 yrs old and had only ever had one repair in its life and its still going strong. Tumble dryer is 22 yrs old and another of Mums chuck outs- looks as tatty as hell but drys wonderfully. We sneakily hope it'll break down and we can replace it!! Dishwasher is 10yrs old again AEG and works well. Kenwood mixer (another Mum chuck out) is about 25 yrs old and going strong. We have even brought these all out to Cyprus and they have not let us down!

Fridge back home was my aunts chuck out to my mum then to me and now back with mum- must be over 30 yrs old- looks awful with that brown formica finish but keeps going strong.Think its an electolux.

God bless old appliancs!!

WinnieThePooh · 10/01/2008 07:03

My washing machine died on me in early December. I had had it for 8 years.

My mum's tumble drier is abot 30 years old.

thequeenofcontradiction · 10/01/2008 07:34

My parents have a fridge-freezer in their garage that belonged to my grandparents - I think they had it before I was born and I'm almost 30. I think their washing machine lasted over 15 years before needing to be replaced.

Apart from a Breville blender which is 4 years old, we have nothing older than 2 months as we have just moved to Oz and didn't ship much. Somehow, I don't see any of our stuff lasting 30 or even 15 years.

nannyL · 10/01/2008 19:42

My dads dishwasher died last year aged 24

and it is the best dishwasher i have ever used, washed everything 100% 1st time, always!

My grandmothers kenwood chef is older than my mum, so at least 50!

Our TV was inherited from my Nan when she died 14 years ago and according to dm she had bought it circa 1980 - works perfectly apart from the on/off button so has to be switched on at the plug. We even managed to find a freeview box which would connect to it.

Henry Hoover is 14 and still going strong.

On the other hand my tumble drier died a week after its years warranty ran out Angry

VivaLeBeaver · 02/03/2012 22:18

My cooker, fridge and freezer are all 9 years old and work fine.

Dyson still works fine and is 14 years old. It died last week but dh repaired it. Various parts however are stuck together with strong duck tape and it only has one wheel. So I've ordered a sebo.

14 year old microwave just packed in last week.

12 year old DVD player still works fine.

timetosmile · 02/03/2012 22:28

13 year old washing machine - not bad for 4 house moves and three permanently grubby children which is used at least twice a day
10 year old video player
20 year old freezer that used to be my Gran's

SlinkyB · 02/03/2012 22:30

My mum has a large chest

Freezer, which is older than my sister (36). Not sure how energy efficient it is though?!

PigletJohn · 03/03/2012 00:00

I recently traded in my beer utility room fridge, which my aunt bought in 1981.

It was an "Electrolux System" fridge with no motor, and so inefficient that my electricity bill dropped by 4kWh/day when I took it out Shock

Completely silent though

CremeEggThief · 11/03/2012 11:01

My iron is 15 years old and it was only a cheap one from Argos. I hardly iron anything though. The 'fridge-freezer is 9,the Indesit washer-dryer is 10 and still going, despite breaking down once or twice a year every year, the Bosch dishwasher is 7, the Miele vacuum is coming up to 8 and the Finlandia tv in our bedroom was bought as an ex-rental by DH in the mid 90s, so must be coming up to 20!

snowballinashoebox · 11/03/2012 17:29

My Miele dishwasher, 25 years and probably still going somewhere! It didn't fit in new kitchen and now have a Bosch which does not clean the same.
Also inherited my Nans Zanussi tumble dryer which has to be getting on for 20+ years and I shudder to think much it costs to run.

lisaro · 11/03/2012 17:33

Panasonic combi microwave and Kenwood food processor both bought in Germany just before Christmas 1992. My oldest son now has them and they still work excellently.

RatDesPaquerettes · 11/03/2012 17:36

Fridge freezer, gas cooker and electric oven - all 21 years and still going strong.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 11/03/2012 17:38

Had a washing machine that lasted about 13 years it broke down one Xmas and replaced it very quickly with a crappy hotpoint which packed up after about 4 years.

Have had since had a Miele for about 8 years and it is still going strong. Ditto the Miele tumble dryer and vacuum cleaner.

I have a second fridge freezer in the garage which is 16 years old, demoted a couple of years ago when i decided to get a stainless steel one to match rest of kitchen.

Whirlpool dishwasher is 11.

First washing machine Zanussi
Lasted 15 years was on twice a day every day during that time.

Indith · 11/03/2012 19:38

My toastie maker/waffle iron is 10 years old. I'v not had anything else that long, only got our own house 2 1/2 years ago so white goods were always whatever the landlord provided.

marriednotdead · 11/03/2012 19:59

We bought a secondhand battered under counter freezer for £40 to use at our wedding. Our 8th anniversary is this year and it's still chugging on.

I bought a cheap hand blender when I was weaning DD. it's going strong and she's 25 now Smile
