If you've an open plan kitchen and are trying to keep things on the surface to a minimum, where do you keep brush, sponge and detergent?

It all goes under the sink in a little holder thing

ColourBeautiful · 29/01/2022 09:17

Under the sink

iamnotanalcoholic70 · 29/01/2022 09:17

Same. I keep some hand soap out now to aid the frequent hand washing, but everything else is in the cupboard under the sink

AddingMustard · 29/01/2022 09:21

Doesn't it make the cupboard go mouldy?

OP posts:
MotherOfCrocodiles · 29/01/2022 09:25

In the sink

Twizbe · 29/01/2022 09:25

Utility room and we have a dishwasher.

We have a drawer under the sink which has things like soap and tea towels in.

Bookaholic73 · 29/01/2022 09:31

Under the sink here too.

chatw0o0 · 29/01/2022 09:51

Washing up liquid bottle lives in the sink and the little sponge just hangs around the edge looking unsightly Grin

Thebodyshopolive · 29/01/2022 09:53

Under the sink, why would it go mouldy?

AddingMustard · 29/01/2022 10:02

I was always told you should never put wet stuff inside a cupboard else the cupboard will go mouldy!

In a cupboard.

gluenotsoup · 29/01/2022 10:09

Under the sink in a little basket. Definitely no mould, but keep it clean and uncluttered to air.

BonkMyPop · 29/01/2022 10:36

I keep the sponge and scourer in the half sink which you can’t really see. Also have hand wash and fairy out but it’s decanted into nicer bottles. Everything else goes under the sink but I draw the line at everything under there, too much of a PITA 😂

Mammaof · 29/01/2022 10:39

Cupboard under the sink.. isn't that where everyone keeps them?

NETSRIK · 29/01/2022 10:42

Cupboard under the sink

katepilar · 29/01/2022 11:12

@AddingMustard

Doesn't it make the cupboard go mouldy?
no. assuming the cupboar is not airtiht and you dont put dripping wet stuff in.
Wetcappuccino · 29/01/2022 11:29

Joseph Joseph do nice, utilitarian style washing up caddies. Ours is on the window ledge next to sink (small kitchen) but you can get wall mounted types.

Somuddled · 29/01/2022 11:49

The dish soap goes in the cupboard under the skink, we dont use a sponge. We have an ikea scrubbing brush which has a sucker on the end so that gets plugged onto the inside of the sink that way it isn't visible. Then the cloth hangs over that. (And is changed daily)

Thirtytimesround · 29/01/2022 11:53

We have an under counter shelf unit next to the sink, they go there in a little lift-out plastic bucket I got from Amazon. The shelf unit is kinda hidden by breakfast bar coming out at a right angle to sink.

Personally I wouldn’t store them in a cupboard with a door on it, as the evaporating water has nowhere to go but into the cupboard material, and so mould is likely long term yes. Also I like to be able to put the soap back with wet hands without touching any cupboard doors.

ThinksALot · 29/01/2022 19:18

We have an in-sink caddy from Joseph Joseph. It holds the sponge and cloth and everything else goes under the sink in the cupboard. I agree, I wouldn't put a wet sponge or cloth under the sink in the cupboard.

Here's our one. It has suction cups on it to stick to the side of the sink.

I prefer to keep it all under the sink, but recently DH has found that bending down to reach for things is hurting his back so I’ve reluctantly got a little caddy to sit on the drainage area. Brushes, sponge and scouring pad go in there, and the cloth is folded in half and draped over the top. It still looks tidy/clean and I’m getting used to seeing it.

SavoyCabbage · 29/01/2022 19:33

I'm not trying to keep my surfaces clear and I keep all of that under the sink. I put my washing up brush in the dishwasher every few days.

I thought this was going to be about toasters and stuff! I've a friend who only has her kettle on the bench.

ExtremelyDetermined · 29/01/2022 19:38

We've got a smaller in-sink holder for the sponge and cloth, but keep the washing up liquid and hand-soap out in refillable glass bottles (from the milkman). I don't want to open the door with hands that need washing and two glass bottles doesn't look much more cluttered than one so they both stay out.

I also wouldn't put damp things in a cupboard either and use the cloth several times a day to wipe surfaces so it's easier if it's out. I really like the in-sink holder for keeping them off the side.

Bancha · 29/01/2022 19:40

The brush sits in a little dish in the corner of the sink, standing upright so it drains. Surface spray and washing up liquid in bottles next to the tap but they I decant them from the big bottles and the bottles I have out ‘go’ with the kitchen. Tea towels on hooks inside the cupboard, and more cleaning products and cloths in a basket stuck to the inside of the cupboard. I don’t put properly wet things inside the cupboard though.

cptartapp · 29/01/2022 19:49

Under the sink in a plastic tub. Washing up liquid bottle doesn't get wet.
