New vacuum cleaner needed- give me your recommendations!

I currently have a Miele cat and dog that is ten years old and whilst still working is not as good as it once was Sad

I also have a Dyson v6 cordless that I use between hoovers and the battery needs replacing which will cost £65

I am contemplating buying a new hoover to replace both but there are so many to choose from. I may decide just to replace the battery depending on what people's suggestions are!

I need something that is good with hoovering up long hair and pet hair and can manage a large house

I have to be honest that I like the idea of an upright as I am not keen on the thing dragging along behind me!

Any ideas?

Have a look at Sebo

Ilikewinter · 05/01/2022 18:33

Shark anti hair wrap with pet tool.....amazing!!

AnOldCynic · 05/01/2022 18:38

My Shark was crisp. Couldn't wait to get rid. Stick with Miele and get a robot vacuum too

chunkiest · 05/01/2022 19:23

Thanks for your replies

I have read mixed reviews about shark so a little nervous

I would love a robo vac but which one, they are soooo expensive 😱

I came on here to recommend mine - a Miele Car and Dog!! Have you changed the bag? Mine’s like a new animal when it’s had its bag changed!! 😉 I got a robot from Lidl - it’s a Vileda one - cost about £80 and it’s fantastic.

AnOldCynic · 06/01/2022 08:07

Haha! I meant crap not crisp!

I have a Eufy 30C I think. Has it's quirks getting stuck in certain places but I've got on top of that now. I also think the battery on its way out but I'd still recommend.

Grumpyosaurus · 06/01/2022 08:11

Sebo X series pretty good.

chunkiest · 06/01/2022 10:19

Thanks for recommendations Smile

Battery has gone on the Dyson but £65 to replace and it is refurbished and several years old

I have sebo felix it's good. I didn't want either cordless or bagless, preferred an upright as we have a lot of carpet and it fitted the bill. I'd prefer a longer hose or crevice attachment but that's about it (and can be bought as an extra if needed). It's light and has a really long cord - I can hover the whole house from one plug if needed.

I was fed up of having to clean fitters each time I emptied my hoover hence going for a bagged one. The only bit of 'maintenance' is keeping the roller free of hair but it just slides out, rather than me needing to take the hoover apart with a screwdriver like my previous one.

I've got a stain v6 pet and I've never really been impressed with it. Before that I always had an upright, some better than other but we got a Henry just before Christmas and it's so much better. Ds2 has a black carpet that is so hard to vacuum as it just seems to hold on to every bit of dust/fluff/crisps etc and I've had to use a rubber brush or get in my hands and knees to use the nozzle before I could go over it again with the vacuum but the Henry actually picks up.

chunkiest · 06/01/2022 21:26

I was looking at the Henry as they have money off at the moment 😊

Shark

Mysa74 · 06/01/2022 21:46

I ought second hand Hetty (pink Henry) during lockdown 1 to tide me over when my Dyson gave up the ghost. I like it so much I've kept it and . It's brilliant, great suction and doesn't fall over the way the old (expensive) Dyson did. You can use it on carpet or wooden floors (another thing the Dyson struggled with). I don't have the pet attachment so use a rubber broom for any long or pet hair that it doesn't get. Other than that, highly recommended.

Pinchofnom · 06/01/2022 21:52

I’ve got the shark anti-hair wrap upright but I also got the small cordless shark plug in to whip out for little crumbs etc which I have found to be a godsend.

Heruka · 06/01/2022 21:53

I think Henry’s are great too.

dickyduckydido · 06/01/2022 21:56

I've got a Henry which I love but he is really unwieldy and I kick him a lot when he gets stuck round corners!
Just recently bought a shark cordless anti hair wrap pet and I'm loving that (apart from the top heaviness)

Bettybantz · 06/01/2022 21:56

I don’t know what I do to Hoovers. I managed to wreck the motor on my Miele cat and dog, got it replaced but that one went after about 6 months too. Replaced it with a shark hair wrap, I’m forever untangling it and now it’s lost it’s suck (again 6 months in).
I don’t think we are exceptionally grubby. I have long thick hair and we have one short haired cat?!

Thatldo · 06/01/2022 21:57

You cant go better then a new Miele Cat&Dog.I bought my miele c&d 14 years ago in a second hand shop for £15.It is still working perfect.I do look after it,change filter every 4 months.

RavingAnnie · 06/01/2022 22:00

I replaced my Dyson v6 battery with a compatible battery off Amazon 2 years ago and it's been fab. Think it cost £25/30. Lasted for ages and longer run time.

Given my Dyson a new lease of life.

EmmaC78 · 06/01/2022 22:05

Sharks seem to be love or hate. I hated mine and would never get another. I was constantly having to untangle hair from it and it just lost all suction after less than a year. i took it to get fixed and then it stopped working again after only a month or two.

RavingAnnie · 06/01/2022 22:07

I would also recommend a robovac. We have a basic Roomba. Cost £200 in sale about 5 years ago I think. They are really good for popping on daily to top up clean the living area. We mainly use this and the v6; however we still need a main cleaner for deeper cleans, things like cleaning up the pine needles etc. I have an upright sebo for this but wouldn't recommended it. I find it unwieldy and heavy and awkward to use. My old cylinder Miele was much better.

gogohm · 06/01/2022 22:18

Just get a Henry, new pet model out. They last 3x as long as any fancy one and cost 1/4 of the price!

Cuddlywaterfall · 06/01/2022 22:25

We have a Shark which is really good. 3 years old (at least) and going strong. I've also just bought a Eufy robot vacuum which is amazing and I love him more than my children Grin. £140 in the Amazon Prime Day sales

Doublechocolatetiffin · 06/01/2022 22:28

Well I can tell you what not to get....a shark cordless. Absolutely useless piece of shit. I have very strong feelings about it as I can't believe how crap it is. Blocks up at the whif of something mire substantial than dust and spends most of its time working as glorified brush because as soon as you turn it off it spits back the contents of what you've vacuumed back onto the floor. I despise it and am thoroughly looking forward to the arrival of my Dyson outsize which I've just ordered.
