How often is your draining board clear of everything?

Just that really.
I do most dishes in the dishwasher, but there are still a few things that get rinsed or hand washed, and they used to hang around on the draining board forever. Recently I started clearing them as soon as I noticed they were dry, at the latest whenever I clear the dishwasher I also clear the draining board.
I can't believe how much tidier it makes the kitchen look!

I don't have a dishwasher. I wash up, dry up put away. A cluttered or dirty sink and draining board messes up the whole kitchen. Bloody flylady was right about something.

mne13 · 16/11/2021 07:53

Ohh I have to clear mine straight away, like you I have a dishwasher but anything that is rinsed/washed by hand gets dried and put away! Looks so much nicer Smile

Oneforthemoneytwo · 16/11/2021 07:53

Always I never leave anything on the draining board

Hardly ever.

WhatsitWiggle · 16/11/2021 07:56

Since doing TOMM, every night. I make it one of my level 1 jobs.

521Jeanie · 16/11/2021 07:57

Erm, just dry them on a clean tea towel and put them away?

Redcrayons · 16/11/2021 07:57

Not very often.
I like to air dry the dishes so usually put them away before I start preparing the next meal.

Scarby9 · 16/11/2021 07:58

Very, very rarely.

HalzTangz · 16/11/2021 07:59

I load dishwasher, and then wash and dry any bits that can't go in dishwasher. I can't be doing with untidiness or waiting for things to dry

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 16/11/2021 07:59

Not as often as I would like Grin

Caspianberg · 16/11/2021 08:00

Rarely. Getting a new kitchen and I’m not pulling a draining board in so I can’t leave stuff out. Draining Mat for anything needed, dry and Mat away

TheCheesyBakedBean · 16/11/2021 08:01

About once a week honestly. I am always drowning in jobs, so leaving a few bits on the draining board is the least of it. I run the dishwasher every day, but there is always somebody eating in my house so it never lasts more than a few moments.

Pascha · 16/11/2021 08:05

Virtually never. There's always a few plastic tubs or lids or drinks bottles having a last dry. The water seems to linger inside the seals and I won't put them away til properly dry. Cats bowls live there too when they've been washed.

GrandmasCat · 16/11/2021 08:05

I don’t ever, made a point if not having a draining board when I changed the kitchen as previous one wasted unsightly waste of space of the worktop I never used anyway.

But, my mother insists there’s no need to put stuff in the dishwasher when it can be quickly done by hand, as a result there is always something drying on the worktop as the bloody dishwasher takes days to be full enough to run a wash.

Amdone123 · 16/11/2021 08:06

Unless I'm actually cooking or washing up, it's always cleared. But there are only 2 adults here and we both love a tidy, clean, organised kitchen!

LeaveYourHatOn · 16/11/2021 08:28

Like a pp, mine mainly has bottles or plastic bits which need to air dry, so I wouldn't want to be without it. But making the effort to put the stuff away regularly ie throughout the day, has made such a difference!

I recently made tidying up the kitchen part of my bedtime routine and has made a really positive impact. The activity of washing up and putting away with the gentle movement and stretching is my alternative to yoga for relaxing and stretching out the day. Psychologically, going to bed on a tidy kitchen and coming down to one is a mood lifter. Also, if I leave going to bed too late the washing up doesn’t get done, so a great incentive to break the late evening slump in front of the tele. I guess it’s the advantage of streaming. Television networks not defining my evening with the good stuff starting at 9pm.

Chunkymenrock · 16/11/2021 08:37

Whenever the dishwasher is emptied and put away, the draining board gets done too.

Chickydoo · 16/11/2021 08:37

Don't have a draining board. Items are used, then either washed in the dishwasher or if washed by hand put away immediately. I don't like things on the sides of my kitchen.

Bagelsandbrie · 16/11/2021 08:38

I can’t stand clutter anywhere so I never leave anything on the draining board. I either wash and dry straight away or it goes in the dishwasher.

MatildaIThink · 16/11/2021 08:39

It is usually clear within half an hour of washing up as that is when the items are dry, if not then always before going to bed and usually before leaving the house. Once the items are dry it takes a minute, two at most to put them away.

PingedPotato · 16/11/2021 08:39

It's rarely empty but I empty it before I put the next lot on if that makes sense.

womaninatightspot · 16/11/2021 08:44

I don't have a draining board just a belfast sink, anything handwashed is dried and put away. Pretty much everything goes in the dishwasher though. Even stuff that isn't dishwasher safe goes on the top shelf. Most of it is fine.

Hoppinggreen · 16/11/2021 08:47

I don’t like drying things manually, I think it’s unhygienic unless I use kitchen roll so I usually wash things that can’t go in the dishwasher and then come back an hour or so later and put things away.
I never leave them out overnight, it’s such a small job but makes the kitchen look so much tidier
