How do I stop my washing smelling of poo?

My son is potty training and sometimes does a poo in his pants. I get rid of the poo and wash his pants put before washing them but no matter what I do, the whole wash comes out smelling awful. I have tried washing at 40, 50 or 60. I have tried softener, no softener and a cap of zoflora but it all just smells horrible. Does anyone have any good tips?

Napisan

MsMarple · 13/11/2021 21:32

Prewash, then wash the pants on 90.

I know it isn’t very eco friendly you need to blitz them, and surely better than binning? This used to work well for me using non-bio - with cloth nappies, then pants.

LeafyBamboo · 13/11/2021 21:34

I see someone else mentioned vinegar. It definitely works for wee smells. I just put a good splosh of white vinegar in the softener compartment.

Double the amount of detergent, fabric conditioner and a dose of Dettol Laundry Cleanser works for me.

RebeccaCloud9 · 13/11/2021 21:37

Your washing should never ever smell of something that went into the wash. Even with non bio. 3.5 HOURS on and still not cleaning a smell away - there is something wrong with your machine.

BurntO · 13/11/2021 21:39

Can you put them in the n a quick wash then Chuck a load in for a full wash when it’s done?

Prattypitel · 13/11/2021 21:47

I am totally disgusted, some people on this thread suggesting to buy cheap pants and throw them away.FFS do you not realise that most likely childlabour would be used to produce chep pants.you should be ashamed of yourself.

White vinegar and half tsp bicarbonate soda in drum and don't wash the soiled pants with anything else. Still use detergent and a little softner. 30c is fine

Harpydragon · 13/11/2021 21:47

Rinse any poo out then soak in Napisan. Short cold pre wash, then wash at 40 on a program that takes about an hour. I always do 3 rinse s on all my washing. We used non bio powder and cloth nappies when my son was small and never had poo smells.

LizzieMacQueen · 13/11/2021 21:47

Add a sanitary towel to the inside of his pants so you can dispose of the poo without too much going on the pant's material.

Have you considered that he's maybe not ready for the toilet training?

Bleach in the washing powder drawer at the beginning of the cycle. I learnt this from a laundrette. Works a treat.
No bleach residue after wash, rinse etc.

Sunshine1235 · 13/11/2021 21:51

Have you wipes out the seal around the door. I had this and realised that some poo had got caught in the door seal

Embroidery · 13/11/2021 21:52

Since when is heat not eco friendly? Do pp have cold showers too? No heat in house?
This wash on 30 thing is ill thought through.

Topbird29 · 13/11/2021 21:53

We clean poo off pants, soak in a covered bucket with napisan, then rinse off. Then wash with fairy non bio and napisan in the pre wash. Usually wash at 40, but is a 90 min wash. Seem to come out fine.

@KatherineJaneway

Dettol Antibacterial Laundry Cleanser
I second antibacterial laundry cleanser but find the fabulousa version is cheaper and has lots of scents to choose from
Notlostjustexploring · 13/11/2021 21:56

Anything pooey or pukey goes on a rinse and spin on their own followed by a 60 with extra rinses but a full wash. If it was particularly awful I'll chuck a handful of bicarb in the drum and do a maintenance wash afterwards.

Polmuggle · 13/11/2021 21:57

You can't put powder into the drum! It gets washed away immediately as water fills!

WhenZoomWasJustAnIceLolly · 13/11/2021 21:59

My dc was allergic to biological washing powder. I never washed pooey pants with other clothes though, I stuck them in on their own or if really grin threw away.

worriedandannoyed · 13/11/2021 21:59

Put the pants in on their own on a quick rinse cycle, shouldn't taken more than ten mins. Then put them in wash normal

PlanDeRaccordement · 13/11/2021 21:59

We used the cloth nappy liners in their underwear when they were at the potty training stage. It’s a thick, soft biodegradable flushable liner that lets moisture through, but poo. So you can easily lift the liner and poo out, and then flush without the poo getting into the fabric of their underwear.

PlanDeRaccordement · 13/11/2021 22:00

*but not poo

AreYouRightThereSkippy · 13/11/2021 22:00

Have you tried the nappy detergents they have? I used a mix of cloth and disposable nappies with my dcs and there was one which I think was by tots bots. Might be worth a go.

Tbh, we never noticed a poo smell when we washed cloth nappies.

endofagain · 13/11/2021 22:03

It might not be your machine, it might be the drains or the drain hose. Check for a blockage, go outside and see if the water is draining freely. If there is any blockage or back flow the machine will stay full of dirty water. Have you checked and cleaned out the pump?

AreYouRightThereSkippy · 13/11/2021 22:05

Thinking about it, we always washed nappies on a 60° wash, followed by an extra rinse. Maybe that helped.
