Surely you can only do one thing at a time in clothes press?

slightlyworriedthissunday · 18/09/2021 18:58

Wtf is a hot press?

Knittedfairies · 18/09/2021 18:59

Isn't a hot press is the same as an airing cupboard?

Mammymanic · 18/09/2021 19:00

No my partner added extra shelves so tink of a clothes horse just with heat , I honestly don't know what I would do with out it ... I take my clothes out if wash hang on clothes horse then poo into the hot press and put away next morn

I don't have a hot press but I use a dehumidifier under a maiden, the tumble would ruin all your clothes for you given a chance, I only use mine for towels.

Heartsinflowers · 18/09/2021 19:02

Poo into the hot press? Sounds a bit grim

PullTheWeeds · 18/09/2021 19:06

I had to Google hot press. Google suggests that it's and Irish term for what you call an airing cupboard in the UK, is that right op?

We don't have a cupboard like that, we don't have a hot water tank, I don't think... Is that still a thing? Sounds good though because all our clothes get dried in the dining room on a 'clothes horse', maybe that is another regional variation there Grin. We also have a tumble dryer but so many of the clothes say not to tumble dry them i barely ever use it.

PullTheWeeds · 18/09/2021 19:08

Do the clothes stay on the clothes horse when u put them into the hot press? That sounds ideal!

Mammymanic · 18/09/2021 19:10

Haha must be a Irish ting ur right ... yeah I think it's jus a life saver honestly,

To those wondering, an airing cupboard is called a hot press in Ireland.

A press is a very old word for a cupboard, and still commonly used for one in Ireland. A hot press is a hot cupboard, the perfect description of an airing cupboard if you think about it.

OP, I do what you do, air dry clothes then put them in the hot press. I have a dryer but prefer to air dry.

PuppyMonkey · 18/09/2021 19:16

Oh is see, I was imagining one of those trouser press things.Grin

Are hot water tanks still a thing then? Our old boiler is over 20 years old but it’s still one of those condensing boilers that don’t have a tank so you don’t have an airing cupboard.

MuthaFunka61 · 18/09/2021 19:17

I use a ceiling rack dryer for indoor drying and an outside line otherwise.
It's old fashioned, simple and effective.
Oh yeh,and free

HopeForTheBestExpectTheWorst · 18/09/2021 19:19

Ah ok, I'd never heard of it being called that.
In that case, whatever works for you OP, but to me that sounds like more work than having a tumble dryer (I put everything into mine with no problems whatsoever).

CaddieDawg · 18/09/2021 19:23

Well your way is cheaper, better for the environment, and works for you so why change?

This has me giggling awayGrin
Notcontent · 19/09/2021 11:33

No, that’s not odd op. Lots of people didn’t use dumbly dryers for lots of reasons - cost, environmental reasons, not wanting to ruin clothes.

dementedpixie · 19/09/2021 11:35

No I don't use an airing cupboard
I air dry on clothes airers and dont own a tumble drier

My house is over 20 years old and has a hot water cylinder and tanks in the loft
lazylinguist · 19/09/2021 12:15

I've lived in quite a lot of houses and flats in my 50 years and only one had an airing cupboard. I'd certainly use one if I had one. I have a tumble dryer, which I use when it's not good enough weather to line dry clothes (i.e. most of the year Hmm).

dementedpixie · 19/09/2021 12:22

My airing cupboard houses the hot water cylinder and a selection of towels. There is no room for anything else

AperolWhore · 19/09/2021 13:22

We dry everything on a clothes horse! I have a washer/dryer combi, the washing is done during the day with a 60 minute dry cycle automatically after. I pop everything on the clothes horse after work and by the time I’m up in the morning everything is dry ready to be folded and put away.

Doggiedementia · 19/09/2021 13:25

I use a ceiling airer. I have a hot press but the towels and sheets live in there.

My house has a condensing boiler but I still have a hot tank. It’s a combi boiler that doesn’t have a hot water tank.

PurBal · 19/09/2021 13:30

I would love to see pictures of your airing cupboard OP. I think I need one
