Is Eufy going to get trapped?

Very executed at the impending arrival of our new Eufy 35c next week. Can any other owners tell me if he's likely to get stuck in what is quite a complicated house?

House is one floor, main area (lounge diner kitchen through to hall) is aLmost in the shape of a lower case t. There are two bedrooms on the lower edge of the right hand fork of the t and a bathroom on the other side. I guess I'm worried he's just going to get trapped bouncing around in one bedroom or only ever covering the main area and never entering the rooms.

Any experiences? Might I just have to give him directions to do a specific room for example or do they find their way into most areas if I set him off one a day?

Is the floor level? As long as he doesn't encounter any obstacles he'll bimble around the whole area till it's all done. Give him time though.

Pemmican · 18/09/2021 07:24

(My Eufy does the whole ground floor quite happily - in and out of pantry, utility, wc etc and never gets stuck.)

Namechangeno25788 · 18/09/2021 07:35

Our Eufy is great and bimbles round the whole floor. We do have to watch out for it getting stuck under our dining room chairs though. If it gets stuck it lets you know though.

FreeButtonBee · 18/09/2021 07:50

I tend to block off a zone and let mine do one area at a time. Saves me clearing all the floors. Can block with a basket or stool turned over. Or just close the door.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 18/09/2021 07:55

He will manage it. He darts around everywhere in his random fashion.

separatedandseething · 18/09/2021 07:58

Ours get stuck due to the following:

Different floor levels - more than half an inch

Raised threshold bars

Wires

Wardrobe doors which are higher from the floor than the surround

SheWoreYellow · 18/09/2021 08:00

You need to name him, first of all Hmm

Poor neglected Eufy.

HerBigChance · 18/09/2021 08:10

You can't name him until you've first seen him.

Lobelian · 18/09/2021 08:11

Ours mainly gets stuck on random shoelaces/charging cables, so make sure you remove any small obstacles as annoyingly she doesn't tidy up as she goes.

I'm very aware he/she needs a name per these threads! but as per @SheWoreYellow I think I need to hold him first. Very very tightly!

Thanks everyone. Glad to hear the bumbling around will do the trick. Floor in main room are hard surface and bedrooms are carpet. But level with the hard floor.

I CANT wait!

Sorry as per @HerBigChance

Make sure all wires and anything like that…I love my eufy! It does mean I tidy up more so he can do his job!!
I also lock him in one room to start so I can check for any pet presents before letting loose on the rest of the ground floor :)
Trying to persuade husband to get another one for upstairs….

Chasingsquirrels · 18/09/2021 09:23

I split mine up, its 2 floors so that's a natural split but downstairs is done in 2 sections.

  • every night (2am) it is programmed to come on. It "lives" in the lounge, so does the lounge & playroom and if I've left the doors open also the hall and dining room (doesn't get used much so mostly that door is shut).
  • 2 or 3 times a week I put it in the kitchen & conservatory when I get up on the morning (dog is in there at night so I don't won't the Eufy disturbing him) by which point it is fully recharged from the night run (when it started at 3am it wasn't).
  • once a week (at most) I put it upstairs. It does my room & ensuite, spare room, landing & main bathroom. If either of the dcs rooms have the floor clear I leave their doors open as well.

It can get stuck, but on/under specific items or by catching cords. It doesn't get stuck in an area in the way I think you are asking.

TwoLeftElbows · 18/09/2021 10:10

We stopped using ours because he kept sticking under coffee table, sideboard, sofa and between legs of dining chairs. Maybe we just got very unlucky with the height of our furniture. Odd shaped rooms he will work his way out of though, as long as thresholds are flat. Possibly he may not make it back to his bed to recharge but that's ok, you can carry him back.

Ooh, maybe we should stick some doorstops or something on Maurice's head Grin

HerBigChance · 18/09/2021 10:14

I adore mine and you will too, OP!

As PPs have said, you just need to close doors on places you don't want him to go into. It does my flat in different areas on different days and I don't allow him into the bathroom.

Malin52 · 20/09/2021 20:34

Simon has arrived! He bumbled around the house quite beautifully.

Strange issue though. He has a minor meltdown at sunlight on the floor?! For example if there's a big sun patch on the floor he sees it as a obstacle and avoids it. I found him juddering away in the bedroom and had to rescue him?!! The whole east side of the house is like this. I'm going to have to set him off on cloudy days or evenings!

OP posts:
Chasingsquirrels · 20/09/2021 20:39

The sunlight issue is due to the sensors to stop it falling off a ledge (eg downstairs).

DespairingHomeowner · 20/09/2021 22:00

Glad to hear Simon has arrived safely Grin

Mine occasionally loses his ‘whiskers’ when he goes over an obstacle…

Camrette · 20/09/2021 22:22

Mine gets stuck humping the barstools but it’s ok as long as I remember to put them a bit further apart. The only other issue is that we have a lot of floor to cover and I think it works better if I shut it in one room at a time rather than letting it have the run of downstairs

WhatsitWiggle · 20/09/2021 22:27

Mine stopped working when we upgraded the wifi. I keep meaning to figure it out because it was great having him (Herbert) bumbling about. He did get stuck under the sofa quite often though.

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 20/09/2021 22:36

I was going to start a thread about robovacs today about whether they work and which one to get

Sounds like you all like the Eufy!

TippledPink · 20/09/2021 22:41

Mine was great until the dog accidentally left a turd on the back door mat.... Two hours with a toothpick and toothbrush Eufy was nice and clean but hasn't worked since ☹️

BruceAndNosh · 20/09/2021 22:41

Mine occasionally bumps the bathroom door shut when he's meant to be doing bedroom and bathroom. Just means I have a very very clean bathroom floor

nonsensenow · 20/09/2021 22:45

Mine gets stuck in the bathrooms as he shuts the doors. He also gets stuck under one dining chair. He can escape the rest. I try to shut him in one room at a time then free him as otherwise he misses bits. He doesn't like to work logically around a room, but I love him.

KingdomScrolls · 20/09/2021 22:52

Mine did this tonight, we have to lift him down the step if we want him to do the kitchen, he didn't tonight, I just used the shark. Remarkable gets under things, keeps downstairs cat fur and toddler grot free. I let him loose upstairs every now and then and he makes me ashamed at the amount of dust and fluff under the beds. I love him.

Is Eufy going to get trapped?
