Is anyone doing this/just started?

We just started this week and oh my goodness, our house is clean! Someone could turn up unexpectedly and I could let them in and not die of shame!

Even toddler DD came downstairs today and said 'Oh, it's clean here!' Blush Grin

I've been aware of TOMM for years but never committed. Well I think this week's the week.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 05/09/2021 07:48

The daily laundry is great. The other thing I find makes a huge difference is the nightly dishwasher run; it makes a huge difference to the state of my kitchen.

BeHereNowx32 · 05/09/2021 10:54

I really, really need a routine like this. Do I need to download the app to do it?
Thanks!

No, you can get all the stuff on the website including free printable lists and stuff!

I'm just reading the printables (thank you for the link) and think Tuesday is a big day! I could manage to change one bed (there are only three) in an evening but to strip and remake them all is a really big job and I wouldn't do it every week to be honest more like fortnightly Actually that's given me an idea, week 1 do our bed, week 2 do the kids' beds.

BeHereNowx32 · 05/09/2021 11:21

@SylvanasWindrunner thanks so much! Definitely going to start this ASAP! X

Indecisivelurcher · 05/09/2021 12:03

I think that's what I'm going to do, @Popitdontstopit

You know tips like the laundry and the night dishwasher run, where is all that? Can't spot it on the Web page.

Throwntothewolves · 05/09/2021 12:13

How does this actually work if you don't have a regular weekly schedule? I work full time shifts, each week is different, plus DS' schedule is full on with sports etc. My days are often 15 hours of non stop stuff that has to happen, with barely a minute to do anything extra.
I'd love to find a way to lighten the load on the days I do have time available to do household tasks, but at the moment I have to blast everything in a day and let it descend into chaos until the next day I have free time.

We have coverless duvets which saves us a lot of time but yeah I think week about is probably more realistic!

The laundry a day is a level 1 job on the list. The dishwasher isn't on the premade lists but I added it to our level 1 stuff, so I put it on after dinner and then unload in the morning while waiting for kettle to boil. And then I just load it through the day when stuff gets dirty.

I love TOMM it honestly is life changing when you’re sticking to it

DollyPartBaked · 05/09/2021 13:12

Sorry I know it's been asked but does anyone have the app? And is it worth it?

SylvanasWindrunner · 05/09/2021 13:51

I have the app. I haven't used it a great deal but you can customise the tasks which is quite useful.

I've dabbled a few times but I fall off the wagon easily. Our house isn't terrible but I'm a CM and so we have a lot of footfall through the house.

New term starting tomorrow so seems a good a time as any to get going.

Thanks for the thread and kick up the bum.

Monday is bedroom day for me. I strip and remake my bed and toddlers bed. Dust and hoover my room, 2x dc rooms and spare room. Takes around 40 mins. The teenage dc strip their own bed on a Sunday (alternate weeks) and dust and hoover their own rooms on a Sunday too. It’s not done to my standards but anything is better than nothing. 5 yo gets her bed washed alternate weeks too with one of the teenagers
Popitdontstopit · 05/09/2021 15:49

Definitely a good idea to get dc to help! (Though I'd have to add a half hour of nagging time into my list)

Wilma55 · 05/09/2021 15:52

The app is a one off fee (ie not every year) so I think it's worth it for £5. Has bootcamp, Christmas prep, timer and playlist. You can customise daily tasks and roll items over to the next day.

Just be aware that if you change phone operating systems then you need to buy the app again. I had it on iOS and moved to android and they want me to pay another £5 which I'm not prepared to do. I moved 55 apps across and TOMM was the only one that made me pay again (most apps you pay for your account but the app download is free).

Indecisivelurcher · 05/09/2021 16:24

I got the app but it doesn't look v good to be honest. I'll use the tick list.

This has some of the tips about how to manage the level 1s

I have the app and have changed bits around to suit us so I like it from that point of view, and it also keeps the fridge and noticeboard clear of clutter, but its not necessary

Concestor · 05/09/2021 16:37

I've had a look and I have more rooms than she lists - I also have a porch, dining room and snug/office. What do you do? Just double up on days?

SylvanasWindrunner · 05/09/2021 16:42

I just add extra rooms to days with rooms that don't need much done. So for living room day I also add the playroom as our living room doesn't need the full 30 mins. And we add mine and DH's offices to entrance hall/stairs day as that's a really quick day.

HRTFT but this is really motivating, thank you OP. Realised today that I endless books on delcluttering, that says it all really!!

Is there a boot camp thread on here?

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 05/09/2021 16:55

My DC do their rooms themselves, on Saturdays. The robot hoover does them two days a week though, so they're saved that. And they pick up anything on the floor daily, so it doesn't get too bad. They strip their sheets and put on the washing machine themselves (they alternate weeks). So Saturdays are mainly putting books back in the study, putting teddies back up in their teddy nets and dusting (not all of it every week, they'd never manage that).

I think I'll have to rejig my level 2 days. The sitting room and dining room in one days is just too much dusting all at once. The sitting room really needs a day to itself.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 05/09/2021 17:00

Ok mumsnet im interested. Realistically how much time does it take at the start. Can the app be linked to another device? So dh and i are on the same page.

How easy is it to involve reluctant dc?

I thought we had decluttered but just had to clear a whole floor for the decorator tomorrow and theres quite a lot. But we've invested in an interior designer so need to see the house when everything is painted and furniture in its new place etc.

Actually the process of writing this has made me see that I need to start with the clean new painted house to maintain it. Thanks MN.

Wilma55 · 05/09/2021 17:08

Yes more than one person can use it Strictly and you can leave notes for each other
