People are going to think I'm obsessed lol as I had a loo roll thread a week or so ago. Grin

Has anyone tried this- if so, what can you recommend, if anything?

Seems mad, you’d end doing more washing, no thanks

mussinboots · 30/06/2021 00:33

My Asian and Muslims friends were shocked at the toilet roll shortage as in it didn't make a difference to them at all. They use the 'Muslim' bum shower which is a small shower head-type thing next to the toilet. I have to admit, it the hot summer months- a wash downstairs with cold water feelings amazing 🙈🙈🙈

mussinboots · 30/06/2021 00:36

FYI: a Muslim bum shower/bum gun/Muslim bidet-

But do you just then sit in damp pants? Don't you have to dry off?

Esssa · 30/06/2021 00:52

It's a shattaf hose. I'm having a new bathroom and want one for hosing the cloth nappies. I suppose it might be interesting to try it's proper use too. I cloth bum, use cloth san pro, or will when I need to again so I'm not particularly bothered by the idea of family cloth. You can get some from Etsy that popper together like a loo roll but I think I'd rather have a basket full of cloths than wipe my arse with a popper! At least with the shattaf it's basically like drying after a bath. Though I'm sure there are some who only use loo roll for that too and I'm weird for using my towel.

Coyoacan · 30/06/2021 01:11

I just use a small jug of water.

SunsetOnTheHorizon · 30/06/2021 01:32

I also have the 'Muslim hose/butt gun" Instead of smearing the poo this actually blasts it off and cleans right away. You definitely need a good pat down with some loo roll or a small flannel specially for this.

It's works wonders for the kids, no skid marks or smelly bums.

It needs plumbing in and they are sold in hardware stores!

Big no no to family shit rags. I was imagining everyone using the same rag for some reason. Puke...!!

ElderMillennial · 30/06/2021 08:58

I find a bum gum v effective. I wash with the gun, dry with a bit of toilet paper, and there's no need to touch anything dirty.

NannyR · 30/06/2021 09:04

I use cut up flannels, just for wees, rinse them out as I wash my hands then leave them in a bucket until I put on a wash. I don't do a separate wash or a particularly hot, long wash, they just go in with everything else.

VettiyaIruken · 30/06/2021 09:04

We have portable bidet spray bottles and finish by using loo roll to basically just dry the area.

Dry loo roll just doesn't get you clean.

A comedian put it well (can't remember who) when he said rub a bit of shit into your hairline then wipe it with a few squares of loo roll. Would you feel clean?

I mean you could just use a lota (water rinse) instead. Then there's no washing and no loo roll. Works for the Middle East.

CorianderBee · 30/06/2021 18:35

@Gentleness

You don't get any water on your clothes... you're just spraying the hole a bit and waiting a second for any drips and then you're done. It's not a shower 😂
LightasaBreeze · 30/06/2021 22:47

You could use a houseplant watering can with a long thin spout and just keep it on top of the cistern, would that work.

LightasaBreeze · 30/06/2021 22:55

Actually OP if you use the cloth it will probably be most economical to boil in an old saucepan, I have done that with cloth hankies as it uses far less water and energy

Kanaloa · 30/06/2021 23:25

Is that a joke? Surely people aren’t boiling shitty cloths in a saucepan in their kitchen? I’m not a Mumsnet toilet brush activist but I think I’d draw the line at that.

Canigooutyet · 30/06/2021 23:41

I'm another water rinser.
Not sure why you would have to strip unless the obvious lol. Open your legs and either sit or squat over the toilet bowl. Use whatever water system you want, and rinse away.
Water is also a game changer for periods. Much quicker to rinse.
it was the midwife who introduced me to the wonders of water when I was having some joint and mobility problmes .

Canigooutyet · 30/06/2021 23:44

It probably isn't a joke. Over the years people have proudly discussed how they clean their toilet brush in the dishwasher.

Same 😂
me4real · 01/07/2021 00:05

@Kanaloa No, some people do this stuff for real. It takes all sorts to make a world Smile

@LightasaBreeze If I were really keen that's what I would do. But I think I'm too much of a lazy arse for all this. Smile

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor

OffyouGo why don't you have a quick Google?

OP I considered this during lockdown as we couldn't get loo roll.

No need, i am married to a muslim and know many more, OP is talking bullshit
BradleyCooperwillbemine · 01/07/2021 14:17

I can remember my mother boiling hankies every now again. It was normal back then.

SingingInTheShithouse · 01/07/2021 16:02

@canigooutyet just properly took in the user name on on that poster. I think it speaks volumes for where there head is at.

For the record I've traveled to Muslim countries where they clean with left hand & water. Thats what was on offer in the more primitive loos too. That's why it's considered very rude to offer your left hand to them to shake or otherwise. DH had to be extra careful as he is left handed
