Parcelforce have just delivered my brand spanking new irobot scooba- new model. Ordered from us and didn't get stung for any import tax or anything and arrived in about 10 days.

dh is putting it on to charge as we speak and i will report back tomorrow when it has done its maiden voyage!

sorry guys- i have been feeling very sorry for myself and staying in bed.........
BUT the scooba is ace! its the new breed one and is even better than the old one- picks up a lot more water and the floors really shine!

It didn't eat the cats, or any rugs or any toddlers (unfortunatly) and it arrived just in time for dt2's potty training attempt!

It apparently takes scooba 4 cleans initially to get the floor clean in its opinion (it does scrub a lot of the inground dirt up) kitchen has been done 6 times now and dh thought we'd had a new floor laid (he'd forgotten that originally there were little silver sparkly bits in it) not tried it in the bathroom yet as the new floor hasn't been put down but that will be interesting.

I scared the builders yesterday by switching it on while they were working upstairs- to clean their muddy footprints up but once i explained what it is they spent half an hour watching it and drinking tea!

Intrigued... do nappy empires get you scoobas or a DH with a computing career or summat? (Just being nosey about your life really!!!)

preggersagain · 15/11/2007 10:01

not just nappies flame- you need to branch out into prams !!! Thanks for the fuzzi's dh is impressed that they are a subtle pink- he's horrified by the swaddlebees!

Actually it wasn't all that extortionate- i got one for mil for chrimbo (older model) and our one and then paid shipping and it came to about £290 - not bad!!

OP posts:
Flame · 15/11/2007 10:05

Considering I spent about £170 on our dyson a couple of years back, you've got a point!

preggersagain · 15/11/2007 10:09

dyson dirty word in our house!!

buy a roomba £120 ish
and a scooba £140 ish and do away with anything domesticated

seriously it saves money in the long run as well- or so i told dh just think about how much you spend on floor cleaner and mopheads- all scooba needs is a dash of white vinegar and away it goes- and i know you ALWAYS have vinegar lying around the house

OP posts:
Piffle · 15/11/2007 11:02

how does it smell afterwards I have cleaned with vinegar before but the odor a little fish and chips for me

preggersagain · 15/11/2007 11:14

by the time its finished the floor is nearly dry anyway and the vinegar smell disapears within about 10 mins.

You can use scooba juice which smells of grapefruit, white vinegar, plain water (never tried it- so not sure how well it cleans) or flash professional floor cleaner.

I use vinegar because the floor tiles shine nicely afterwards- half an hour after it had finished dh couldn't detect a vinegar smell at all!

i love it when roombas shake their booty on the way back to base- a bit like a mechanical tiger woods on speed !

Yup it needed a voltage converter- maplins 9.99.

chocchipcookie · 15/11/2007 11:56

Good to hear from you! OK

  • what is the newer model, how is it better?
  • is vinegar all you add? How much?
preggersagain · 15/11/2007 12:29

the only real difference in performance is the drier floors so far- but i think all the software has been updated and there are various extras- mine came with 2 virtual walls, a charging base and a storage mat.

on the vinegar thing it is 2fl/oz- you get a little cup with the ammount marked

AitchTwoOh · 15/11/2007 12:34

preggersagain · 15/11/2007 12:36

right drumroll please........................

i have the scooba 380 once translated it cost £161.93 plus shipping. Didn't get stung for import tax etc. Bought it from ebay us (i know i know!!!) and the seller kindly shipped a scooba 380 and a 5900 for mil together thus saving on shipping costs! we also got a bit of a discount for buying the two.

It has a charging base thingy but i've not set that up yet as i haven't decided where scoobadootwo (as was named by the dt's) will live. The storage mat is very useful though as scoobadooone (now nearly deceased) leaves a dirty puddle when it goes to sleep. Scooba virtual walls are interchagable with roombas so i have one in most doorways and then they activate for roomba and scooba.

I have always run scooba on vinegar and have a bottle of flash profesional floor cleaner for quick scooba runs just before the in-laws etc arrive so that it smells nice and fresh!

Noise wise i don't have a problem with it, slighlty noisier than a roomba imo. I switch it on last thing before bed and it cleans whilst we sleep (children on 1st floor we are on 2nd floor whilst scooba does ground) it certainly doesn't disturb any of us!

If you are looking for one and budget isn't a problem then get one of the new ones but on ebay us atm there are some good deals on the scooba 5900 and 5800.

preggersagain,
i have a scooba and have been using scooby juice up until now (ordering off ebay but it's getting a little pricy)
I don't want to use vinegar, (i don't like the smell) but what flash cleaner do you use?
What is it's precise name as it is on the bottle? and can you use it on wooden floors?

preggersagain · 15/11/2007 14:17

Flash proffesional floor cleaner- fine to use on wood floors- i get it from Bookers
