Please tell me how to clean my oven door

I'm holding my hands up to my slovenly ways, and admitting I need some genius to tell me how to clean my oven doors.

I have a bit of a history with ovens and when we left our rental the professional oven cleaner said our oven wasn't the worst but it was "up there" 😳

I vowed with this oven it would be different and at first I was good at keeping on top if it. But I let it slide and now I cannot for the life of me clean the bastarding glass on the door! I have left it soaking in Cif oven cleaner which took off some of the grease but the big brown streaks WILL NOT budge! What can I do to get rid of them and get my oven looking beautiful again? I have bicarb, I have white cider vinegar, is there some sort of magic paste I can concoct a la Kim and Aggie that will help?

Me too. Sorry i have no answers came on to get some help with mine as i have the same problem. I have tried everything i can think of but nothing is shifting the brown marks.

Retrievemysanity · 15/04/2021 12:02

The pink stuff works for me, really good at shifting the stains.

JellyBabiesFan · 15/04/2021 12:03

Soak in warm water and washing up liquid then good old elbow grease with a metal scourer. Leave to dry and then remove the streaks with a damp cloth.

No funky chemicals needed.

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 15/04/2021 12:05

I'm about to move out of a long-term rental and I've been spiffing mine up with Astonish oven paste. It's not as magical as some would have you believe but it's shifting quite a lot of the burnt-on spatters and bits.

minou123 · 15/04/2021 12:08

I know this, because I learnt it on mumsnet Grin

Get a dishwasher tablet, slightly soak it in warm water. Just enough that the tablet is damp, and before it crumbles.
Then rub on the glass. Wipe off with fresh water.

Works a treat.

LadyDanburysHat · 15/04/2021 12:11

Pink stuff, and for the really bad thick brown bits I used a stanley knife to carefully scrape it off.

dementedpixie · 15/04/2021 12:14

Astonish oven and cookware cleaning paste (probably similar to the pink stuff paste) and a metal scourer

PivotPivotPivottt · 15/04/2021 12:16

I clean my oven less often than I would like to admit. When I do get round to it I always use oven pride. I used it a couple of weeks ago and it worked on my oven door.

wonkylegs · 15/04/2021 12:19

This stuff is great on the glass - easy to use and not too noxious
Was a revelation

Orgasmagorical · 15/04/2021 12:21

That magic eraser sponge works a treat - hot water (maybe soak it for a few minutes first), a good rub, no chemicals needed.

Dangleclack · 15/04/2021 12:23

Recently got rid of grease stains using a razor blade. You can get scrapers painters use for removing paint from glass easy enough or just use a blade very carefully.
Grease came off a treat, nowt else shifted it.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 15/04/2021 12:25

For thick coatings I use a knife - very satisfying. After that I soak in hot water and washing up liquid for a couple of hours and scrub gently with wire wool. Never found it too difficult.

I now have a pyrolytic oven so have never had the chance to try the MN dishwasher tablet trick. Please do try and report back OP.

PiggyPlumPie · 15/04/2021 12:26

Pink stuff was easier than dishwasher tablet but both worked a treat!

Malin52 · 15/04/2021 12:27

Tried the dishwasher tablet. Did nothing except make a horrible mess. Bar keepers friend worked really well with their scraper

cookiemonster5 · 15/04/2021 12:28

I use a glass scraper. Only costs a couple pounds and in the water with dairy liquid (I can dismantle my door and remove the inner glass) then scrape off the gunk, dry and put it back. Only takes 5-10 minutes depending on how long I've left it. Sometimes I don't take the door apart if the other one doesn't need cleaned and just use the scraper with a damp cloth and some spray.

MiddleEasternMummy · 15/04/2021 12:29

Pink stuff !!!

GCAcademic · 15/04/2021 12:30

Make a paste with bicarbonate of soda and spread it over the glass. Leave it for a couple of hours and then scrub.

WonkyCactus · 15/04/2021 12:33

Another recommendation for the pink stuff paste, you can get it in B&M and probably other bargain stores/ pound shops too.

Bellyundertit · 15/04/2021 12:33

Use window cleaners spray if it's a mirror oven.

TheChild · 15/04/2021 13:06

I tried to reply earlier to attach a progress picture but the app does not seem to like me posting pictures!

I am happy to report I have oven cleaning progress Grin I don't have a dishwasher so my mum has said she will drop off a dishwasher tablet this afternoon, I have a dedicated patch of the door to test this oit on and will report back!

As I'm an impatient bugger, I went routing under my sink and found heavy duty scourers and some 5 minute Oven Brite, so I sprayed this VERY liberally over the glass, left for 30 minutes and then started to scrub and the grease started to shift. There is a bit that was more stubborn so if the dishwasher trick doesn't work I will do the Oven Brite again and leave for slightly longer. Cleaning that door was VERY satisfying!!

Also, I've never used the pink stuff, is it a general household cleaner or just for ovens? I also need something that will make cleaning my bathroom a doddle as right now I don't think my very blasé "spray with bathroom spray and wipe" method is most effective 😁 our bathroom is aquamarine, though, so the dirt doesn't show up much (that's how I get away with it!!)

Pink stuff comes in several forms. You can get spray and paste

CirqueDeMorgue · 15/04/2021 13:11

Elbow grease (the pink stuff), hot soapy water and a squeegee. I prefer to get someone in to do it though.

dementedpixie · 15/04/2021 13:11

And cream cleaner

dementedpixie · 15/04/2021 13:11

Is elbow grease not yellow?
