King or Superking?

Hello, we are looking to buy a new bed. I'm happy staying with a kingsize but my partner wants to get a superking. We are currently renting a house but will be buying next year and think it makes more sense to wait until we know the dimensions of the bedroom and whether a superking would be viable. Have any of you moved from a king to superking and would you recommend or stick with a kingsize? Thanks xx

I would absolutely get a superking - if I had the space for it. But not all rooms do. Have you got an idea of the type of home you will be buying: are you likely to have largish rooms? In your situation I would just wait if you can, and buy a new bed for your new house.

Me and my ex had a super king and I hated it. Three reasons: 1. It took up half our bedroom. 2. It was a mammoth task to change the bedding. 3. It's difficult to buy superking bedding. It does exist but many shops only stock single, double and king size, superking is that bit harder to get.

emsyj37 · 05/04/2021 21:38

Get a superking, we moved from a king to a superking 3.5 years ago and we still talk about how amazing it is - once you step up to a superking, you'll never look back. We don't have room for bedside tables but it's still 100% worth it.

MrsWooster · 05/04/2021 21:38

Superking. Every time.

Flackattack · 05/04/2021 21:39

I love ours - best thing we ever bought! You can get bedding in most places now but can’t you wait until you buy as I would only have one if the room was big enough otherwise I’d stick with a king.

This! We decided against a superking for this reason.

Hey a super king! I've had no trouble buying bedding for it, and I sine struggle to change it. We also have separate duvets. Heaven! Everyone has enough room, everyone is comfortable with the right amount of duvet. Bliss!

Blustered · 05/04/2021 21:42

Superking. We had one which fit perfectly, moved and room was too small for the chunky frame so bought a divan and used the superking mattress on it. Took up most of the room but soooo worth it. Moved again and back to old frame and new mattress. So if you're moving I'd consider a small or divan frame for a superking just in case.

idontlikealdi · 05/04/2021 21:43

Super king every time but I o would wait until you move, we couldn't get ours up the stairs when we moved...

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 05/04/2021 21:44

Super king bedding isn’t difficult to buy at all Hmm. You can get it from high street department stores, discount places like Dunelm, TK Max & HomeSense, online and even Amazon, as well as the pricier places. 10 yrs ago it was tricky but not now.

Get a super king of the room can take it and you can get it up the stairs.

We have a SK, 6ft wide 6ft 6in long. It's too big. There's an enormous gulf in the middle. If you move toward the middle you can't reach anything on the bedside table!

I think IKEA do a 5ft 4in SK which I wish we had bought, it's continental size SK.

Buying bedding isn't a problem, everyone does SK nowadays.

Palavah · 05/04/2021 21:44

I love a superking and buy all white bed linen so don't struggle to buy it.

Are you likely to buy a house with a spare bedroom? Any chance you could buy a king with the expectation that if it doesn't fit in the master it will fit in the spare?

BendingSpoons · 05/04/2021 21:46

Superking with single duvets if different thicknesses. It is great! But we bought the bed after buying our house so we knew it would fit.

BendingSpoons · 05/04/2021 21:47

Would a compromise be a king size bed with a super king duvet?

The only problem with buying euro or nonstandard sizes is having a wide (or any!) choice of fitted sheets or mattresses when buying.

You can get superking bedding everywhere! Amazon if not your local shops!
I have a super king. I'm on my own and don't use most of it (though the dogs enjoy the other half). I'm moving and my next house it will be too big so will switch to a king I've already got in another room.
Of it's only a year until your next home why not wait?

Foxymoxy68 · 05/04/2021 21:50

We bought a super king when our son (now 18) was a toddler as he often crept in during the night and it meant we all had plenty of space.
I now find it too big and changing the bedding takes two of us. Our bedroom can house it ok without feeling cramped but when we move in a couple of years, we’ll replace it with a king size.

MySafeSpace · 05/04/2021 21:52

Super king every time. Bedding is super easy to find with plenty of choice. Just make sure you can def fit (maybe worth the wait until you move tho) it in - we have tiny all cabinets as bedside tables but love the huge bed

MsMeNz · 05/04/2021 21:56

Once we had a super king we could never go back. Love it. No problems manvouring it as they are if divan anyway two single beds together. We both get out space. DH is built like a linebacker and I used to sleep badly in a smaller bed. We have a largeish room so it fits fine. Tbh though I'd give up other furniture first to keep it if we had to move to a smaller room.

JackieWeaverFever · 05/04/2021 21:57

We have a superking and love love love it
We sleep so much better in it.

I dont know how big our bedroom is but it's big enough that we can move freely /the bed doesn't dominate the room

Bedding has never been a problem (we normally get a good deal in the sales tbh)

chuffoff · 05/04/2021 22:01

Adore my super king, would never go back. Get all my bedding from Dunelm, huge choice. Ours is a divan ottoman so we've got tons of storage space underneath it

SpacePotato · 05/04/2021 22:04

It's difficult to buy superking bedding

No it isn't. My first lot was £20 from argos!
Even Asda sell it.

The gulf in the middle is the best bit when your OH is a massive fidget.

LizzieSiddal · 05/04/2021 22:04

Super king every time!

My only advice is to change the bedding together with Dh. It’s so much easier than trying to wrestle with the duvet/cover on your own.

RandomMess · 05/04/2021 22:07

We got an EU King which is between a King & SuperKing

Love love love it

The bigger the better

user64332 · 05/04/2021 22:20

Over the last 20 years I went from double, to superking to king and just ordered a superking.
I loved the superking but hated changing the duvet cover. Moving the mattress into the bedroom was a task and a half because it was so heavy. It wouldn't fit in one of our houses so we accepted a swap with a relative and went down to a King. Bedding was easier but it has always felt so tiny. Especially with kids.

We have just moved again and decided to get a superking ottoman bed to increase storage space in our room. I specifically went for a divan to make it easier to lift if we have to move house and they don't require building or slat maintenance. I tried to get a zip and lock mattress but couldn't find one the right size. Thankfully I can get delivery to the bedroom.

While we've had the King, we have had one of those coverless printed washable duvets which has been brilliant for someone like me who hates putting on duvet covers. That was one thing putting me off a superking again, but after much searching I eventually found a coverless washable duvet at La Redoute. So now I can have the big bed with lots of storage without the nightmare of changing the covers.

However, if you are buying next year, are you saving hard now? Why do you need a new bed? If yours is broken and you are saving for a deposit I would get a second hand bed or a £35 IKEA cheapy and then use that as a spare room bed in your new house next year and wait and see what the space is like.
