How to remove pen ink from fridge?

ChubbyMsSunshine · 16/03/2021 12:40

Hi all,

We use the side of our fridge as a white board for my 3yo DS to draw on.

Bought some new white board pens this week and the blue isn't coming off! It's clearly not whiteboard ink Angry as the other colours are all fine.

No idea therefore what sort of ink it is - normal felt tip? Permanent marker? Who knows!

Any ideas what will remove it? The cleanish splodge is antibac hand gel which helped a bit but it's not 100% working

Hairspray might be worth a go? Sounds strange, but it works to get pen off my daughters desk.

RevolutionRadio · 01/04/2021 22:32

Body spray, lynx usually works

GojiberryStar · 01/04/2021 22:37

Hairspray.

OneEpisode · 01/04/2021 22:39

That’s rather beautiful. Can you decorate the rest of the room to match the fridge?

NotMeNoNo · 01/04/2021 22:41

Try Isopropyl alcohol or white spirit?

tpmumtobe · 01/04/2021 22:45

Hairspray gets out allsorts. That or WD40...

icelollycraving · 01/04/2021 22:46

Sanitiser and a magic sponge should do the trick.

Sycamoretrees · 01/04/2021 22:46

Try colouring over it with a colour that does come off, then wipe and they should come off together.

Octopuscrazy · 01/04/2021 22:49

Acetone (nail varnish remover)

PawPawNoodle · 01/04/2021 22:51

I'd say hairspray too, it's worked for me when we had some notes on top of the fridge that got wet and transferred, but it was a small amount in comparison.

If it doesn't work maybe you could paint some blackboard paint on it and then it can be used for other expressions of creativity?

ThatsNotTheTeaHunty · 01/04/2021 22:53

Toothpaste and milk are brilliant for getting pen off.

ChubbyMsSunshine · 01/04/2021 22:54

I've got hairspray and WD40 so will try those tomorrow - thank you.

Or maybe it's an excuse to get the sweet smell of Lynx Africa back in my life for the first time in 25 years Grin

Love the blackboard paint idea too. Gah, so many options!

EmotionallyEncumbered · 01/04/2021 22:57

Hand sanitiser gel

EmotionallyEncumbered · 01/04/2021 22:59

Oops, just seen you tried that already!

No worries - it did work to a certain extent but kind of feel I should save it for it's proper purpose these days! Plus it's going to take a lot of the stuff to clean all the ink off...

Jif cream?!

jackstini · 01/04/2021 23:06

Acetone - but wipe on and wipe off quick before it damages surface

ViolaValentina · 01/04/2021 23:07

Isopropyl alcohol should get it off

FatCatThinCat · 01/04/2021 23:09

Tooth whitening toothpaste is good for getting marks off fridges. Not sure it'll get that off, but may be worth a go.

OneBlinky · 01/04/2021 23:10

Have used eucalyptus oil over the years for pen marks. If all else fails give it a go...

The Pink Stuff. I've yet to meet a stain it won't shift.

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 02/04/2021 06:38

Eucalyptus oil
Blutac

filka · 02/04/2021 06:44

I'd think isopropyl alcohol or white spirit too - but if not, try acetone (aka nail varnish remover). Test on a small a rea first to ensure it doesn't bring the paint off, but I think it'll be OK on a fridge
