What washing machine would you buy?

CindersNeedsHelp · 30/10/2007 08:41

I have an 18 month old
I never seem to get my washing pile down
I use real nappies on my boy, who while might potty train soon-ish I hope to have another child in the (not too distant, if I can persuade DH) future

Only had this one just over a year. It?s a bekko. It was a cheapy. Was repaired under warranty twice, but have decided to just buy new one rather than pay for repairs!

So, need a new machine, but which one.

if you can afford it a miele... (they work out cheaper in the long run because they last much longer so are also better for the environment too)

otehr wise im very happy with my john lewis machine (which somes with a 3 year garantee as standard) or other wise bosch are known to be good
please stay away from hotpoint!

CorrieDale · 30/10/2007 09:18

And Indesit. And Hoover.

Get the biggest you can, would be my advice. We did that (also real nappies) and it means we can do more washing in one go. It IS a hoover though and has broken down twice in 12 months - next time I'd buy a dearer one, but still a biggie.

CindersNeedsHelp · 30/10/2007 09:19

Is that stay away from:
Hotpoint
Indesit
Hoover
Bekko

I have this and love it!

Kitsandbits · 30/10/2007 09:24

DONT BUY ANYTHING FROM SERVIS!!

I bought a washer had it 5 weeks and it broke and they left me for 6 weeks without one and were so rude to me

CindersNeedsHelp · 30/10/2007 09:26

Kitsandbits - how long have you had it and has it broken down?

CindersNeedsHelp · 30/10/2007 09:30

What about Hotpoint, Electrolux, Daewoo?

Never, ever buy anything from Haier. We have one in our rented flat and it's the most unreliable piece of crap I've ever seen. I'm sure the landlady has spent as much on callout fees as she did on the machine itself.

bigspender30 · 30/10/2007 09:38

I actually bought a new machine from Comet but found out that it didn't fit my kitchen so used it for a week then changed my mind and they took the machine back and gave me one that fitted my integrated kitchen! Couldn't have been nicer! I bought a Hoover machine I think..let me go check.Yip its a hoover. I had 2 calls outs in the first week due to the latch on the machine not shutting properly but since then its been great touch wood! Its a bigger drum so you can do bigger loads

CorrieDale · 30/10/2007 09:39

Yes, stay away from!

Most machines are built to last 5 years. Our Bosch lasted 6. We now have a Hoover (not as reliable as the Bosch) but we got the extended warranty so, inconvenience aside, it isn't the end of the world that it isn't 100% reliable.

mishymoo · 30/10/2007 09:39

We have a Bosch and it's brilliant. Only had it about 4 months.

CindersNeedsHelp · 30/10/2007 09:41

What about Zanussi?

OP posts:
twinsetandpearls · 30/10/2007 09:42

I would say bosch or miele.

goingfriggincrazy · 30/10/2007 09:45

Always had Zanussi's,the last one gave up after 7 yrs, cant fault them.

CountessDracula · 30/10/2007 09:45

I agree get a Miele if you can afford it

I bought one recently and it was expensive but has a 10 year parts and labour guarantee free! Now that alone should be worth quite a bit I would think (plus they must be pretty confident it won't go wrong)

this is the one they said it is designed to last over 20 years!

CindersNeedsHelp · 30/10/2007 09:46

Just found out that the Electrolux group make the John Lewis washing machines.

W've recently bought a Bosch and have been happy with it (only neg, for me, is that it beeps when it finishes its cycle).

We bought it on-line from a company called Kitchen Science -they had some really good prices but did take a while longer to deliver than other companies.

goingfriggincrazy · 30/10/2007 09:55

Second Betty with Kitchen Science,we have used them too-good company.

cazboldy · 30/10/2007 09:55

I didn't buy mine, I rent it!
It's a bosch large drum one and it's fantastic.
When I eventually gave up on my not very old totally unreliable hotpoint, I didn't have enough money to just go out and replace it, but was looking around and saw that you can rent one for about £13.50 a month.
The best bit is that you only have a rental agreement for 18 months after which time you can either keep the machine you have or swop it in for a new one and that all call outs and repairs are totally free! I have only had to call them out once when my old machine (which was nearly 5) gave up the ghost. I rang them at 9 am on a saturday morning and they were out at 2 o clock the same day! unfortunately they couldn't repair it there and then, but they came out and replaced it with a new machine on the monday morning. I think they are fab!

cazboldy · 30/10/2007 09:56

oh by the way, i have 5 kids and we live on a farm so lots of washing!

bagpuss · 30/10/2007 09:58

We have had a Hotpoint for 6 years now and it is on its second drum. They have a 5 year parts guarantee and so we didn't have to pay for it and the engineer also let us off the call out as it broke when the machine was just over a year old (so only just out of the main warranty period). They are not the most reliable machines but we are considering buying another as the parts guarantee is so good. Others we have considered are Bosch, John Lewis and Miele. Which say to steer clear of the Hotpoint Aqualtis (the new one with the big drum).

CountessDracula · 30/10/2007 10:00

£13.50 a MONTH???

That sounds very expensive!

I've just bought a miele and it is fab

bootsmonkey · 30/10/2007 10:05

My Indesit washer/dryer has been going for 13 years now. It has been repaired once or twice in that time and currently the dryer doesn't recognise off & it sticks on the rinse cycle and you have to click it on, but otherwise it has given good service. We are looking for another one soon though, so will watch with interest....!

EricL · 30/10/2007 10:08

AEG or something else German.

Reliable as......errr.......a very reliable thing i can't think of at this present moment.
